April 10Apr 10 Saw the Weather Station this past weekend, and am seeing Sharon Van Etten, the Wedding Present, the Pixies, Stereolab and Die Spitz, but not in this order. Hoping to nab some Tv on the Radio. Edited April 10Apr 10 by Mdhorn
April 11Apr 11 my morning jacket was excellent last night. i saw them a ton between 2000-2008 but somehow haven't seen them live in over 15 years. they haven't lost a step. was pleasantly surprised how heavy the set was on songs from Z. i've been enjoying the new album and was hoping for river road, didn't get that one but i enjoyed squid ink a lot. still don't like moody amphitheater, the sound was ass for the first several songs and I don't think it was ever loud enough.
April 12Apr 12 I don't go to nearly as many shows as I used to, but MMJ is one band I don't miss when they're in town. Looking forward to Sunday here in Houston
April 14Apr 14 Robert Lester Folsom at The Chapel (San Francisco). The son of my college housemate and teammate is filming a documentary on Folsom’s late rise from obscurity.

I've seen them three times now -- High Water Fest in Charleston, The Bomb Factory a couple of days later and Saturday in Las Colinas. If there's a better live band going, I'm not sure who it is. (I'd say LCD Soundsystem but that's personal preference as they play basically the same setlist every single night -- and I'll never complain.) I'm trying to hatch a plan to catch MMJ at Red Rocks in August. Edited April 15Apr 15 by C-Man

April 16Apr 16 If anyone is thinking about attending the Austin Blues Festival tickets are $50 off for the next couple days. I'm on the fence, but wouldn't mind seeing Kingfish again.
April 16Apr 16 clearly they aren't selling tickets. i don't know why they insist on doing this the same weekend as psych fest again. why unneccesarily compete with another local festival?
April 17Apr 17 just picked up a local free newspaper at the supermarket. Holy crap, Albert Lee is playing in Carlsbad next week. I gotta go.
April 20Apr 20 Wasn't sure where to put this but caught some vids of the Brothers from MSG. If those fuckers don't tour, it'll be a national tragedy. If they do tour and come anywhere near Texas, I will be there.
April 21Apr 21 saw mac sabbath on saturday. hilarious. they fully commit to the bit and theatrics...sort of like seeing gwar.
April 22Apr 22 Saw L.A. Witch with Daiistar last night at Mississippi Studios in PDX. This was my third time to see L.A. Witch and will probably be my last. It seems like every performance has less energy than the previous one. The difference in bands was stark. Daiistar brought it and had everybody bouncing. Really fun band. I'm sure y'all there in ATX are familiar with them but it was my first time to see them. Reminded me of a 90's Manchester band.

April 23Apr 23 Anyone going to Wilco Waxahatchee next month? Considering pulling the trigger. Edited April 23Apr 23 by DDD Dad
April 23Apr 23 Finally saw Khraungbin for the first time tonight. Did not disappoint…even if it was a delayed start/shortened set due to weather.

April 23Apr 23 Did anyone go to LCD Soundsystem in Austin last night? Going tonight and would like to know (1) quality of the opening band Nature of Language, and (2) what time LCD actually took the stage. Thanks

From what I’ve seen online, the opener is just a DJ set and LCD went on around 9. I think Nation of Language is the opener for some of this tour, but not the Austin shows.

April 24Apr 24 Going to Fontaines DC with @GenXer tomorrow night. Let me know how LCD is; trying to go on Sunday but have family/work responsibilities. If the show is killer I’ll find a way.

April 24Apr 24 I love that Khruangbin is absolutely devoted to its aesthetic (both visually and sonically). Their stage show is an almost theatrical performance. It’s like watching a long-form perfume commercial. Mark and Laura are committed to the wigs and a vaguely European chic style. Their choreography is slow and deliberate. The band even exits the stage together, in a tidy single file line. There was no rock talk, no looseness, no fucking around. Those dudes took the stage and put on a two hour performance, never breaking character until the final send off after the encore. That commitment tracks in their discography, too. They manage to evolve without losing their trademark sound. (My wife put it succinctly: “Khruangbin will never have an ‘Eras’ tour.”) When you play a Khruangbin album, you know what you’re getting: the bastard child of surf guitar and Ravi Shankar over a funky baseline and metronomic drums, maybe with a dash of repetitive, sultry vocals. It might be a little funky, or vaguely Latin, or Eastern influenced; but it’s always distinctly Khruangbin. It was 45 minutes into the show last night before they played a song I recognized. But at the same time, I felt like I had heard them all before.
April 24Apr 24 Psych Fest this weekend. Good lineup for us old folks, but.. like a lot of old folks, i cant abide by the ticket price. Gonna pass. do we need to start a "concerts you won't be attending" thread?
April 24Apr 24 $75 for a day pass doesn't seem unreasonable. you're gonna be paying at least half that to see any one of those headliners on their own.

April 24Apr 24 Going to be a nice little three show run this week. Tonight - Japanese Breakfast (will be Chad Jr.'s first real rawk show) Then Jack White and Wilco back to back next week.

Agreed, it was excellent--James Murphy is really understated between songs, not really a showman, but once the song starts he is full throttle. Not a big lights/effects show at all if you are into that, but that the live versions of the songs were tight. I've seen them in the past, over 10 years ago--they were younger and more energetic then but are better craftsmen now.

I’m gonna be there.
