December 3Dec 3 Took the wife to David Byrne. She barely knew any TH songs before the weekend. Just a fantastic show. What an amazing talent. We both enjoyed it thoroughly. Hope I'm that spry at 72.

December 5Dec 5 Any Surlyites enjoy the smoky soulful strains of Marc Broussard? He's in Dallas at Longhorn Ballroom on Saturday 12/6. Wife and I have a table for 4 right up front and only 2 of us going. Would gladly share it with some fellow fans...you buy the beer.
December 6Dec 6 Going to Luna at Granada tonight. Been looking forward to this show since I got the notification they were coming to Dallas. Playing very few shows a year now. Great setlist in Austin last night.

December 7Dec 7 A couple of friends went to the Austin show last night, and they raved about it. Enjoy.I’ve been looking forward to this show more than any other we’ve been to this year save New Order at Kilby Block Party. Is the Octupus Project good? Feel like I’ve heard good things. From Austin and opening for these two Luna shows.
December 7Dec 7 Not familiar with Octopus Project. Links to listen to?They’re on Spotify. Formed in Austin in 1999. It’s mostly instrumental with a few lyrics here and there. It’s different. But they had a groove. I don’t usually enjoy openers but that was fun. I’d see them again.
December 7Dec 7 Luna was spectacular. And Britta Phillips still brings the smoke for a 62-year-old.We were at a table up front stage right and meandered up to GA on the rail for the second half of show.
December 7Dec 7 i had a very difference experience...saw octopus project and luna at paramount on friday. been a while since i've seen octopus project, they're always entertaining...thought they were way better than luna. luna had zero energy, zero stage presence, very lackluster performance. they sounded fine, they were just very boring. there were a couple of attempts to get the crowd standing up but it didn't happen, hard to sleep standing up i suppose.
December 7Dec 7 CSB, didn't know where to put this. I'm in a cover band with close friends. Our drummer had his 50th birthday party last night, his wife hired another band to play but asked us to go up on stage and do a few songs. We do Yoshimi by The Flaming Lips a lot, and his wife specifically requested that one. Anyways, I forgot that another friend of ours at the party is old friends with Steven Drozd (longtime member and mulit-insrumentalist in The Flaming Lips). After we were done she sent me this screenshot, which tickled me!

I’ve become a major Luna fan the last several years and I’d never seen them live before last night. Yeah, they’re very understated but the guitar work by Dean and Sean is just terrific. The Granada was seated down the sides and upstairs, I think. The middle was GA Standing so that probably made for a better experience. I enjoyed it very much.
December 10Dec 10 For all you old guys, Triumph has announced a 2026 reunion tour with all 3 original band members and Phil X helping on guitar. 3 dates in Tx touring with April Wine in support.
December 10Dec 10 Since when does Rik Emmett need help on guitars? And fuck yes on April Wine man. My first ever real rock concert.
December 11Dec 11 McMurtry in the Gallery last night. Damn good as always with a decent range across his 35+ years of albums, although a little heavier than usual from the last 3. Heading to NYC tomorrow for LCD Soundsystem and other shenanigans. Edited December 11Dec 11 by KaiserSoze

December 11Dec 11 Saw Marked Men and Riverboat Gamblers at Mohawk last Friday night. It was cold as shit. Mike W from the Gamblers had kind of a weird performance, even for him. Marked Men were fun as always. I also saw that David Byrne show at Bass Concert Hall. It was one of the most fun live music experiences of my life. Visually breathtaking. And it was beyond cool to see David Byrne perform a fuckton of Talking Heads hits. That's the closest we're gonna get to seeing those songs performed live. Going to see Mike Cooley of the Drive By Truckers at Cactus Cafe tomorrow. Haven't seen a show there in decades, so I'm stoked. I've always loved Cooley's DBT songs.
December 11Dec 11 Saw Shane Smith and the Saints last Friday at ACL Live - very solid show, opened by Ray Wylie. Don't know dick about Billy Strings, but seeing him on Saturday at Moody Center.

December 11Dec 11 he can do things with guitars i could never dream of doing. he's an insanely good player. music is boring after 15 mins.

Would very much love to convince my wife to head over to FW for the Billy Strings show tonight but I don't think I'll be successful.

It was a blast- absolutely fantastic show and the sound system setup at Knockdown Center was well beyond what Emo's had for the Austin shows earlier this year. It fucking ruled. @mycox and I bar hopped through Brooklyn before and after the show and eventually called it quits around 4:00a.m. I just got back to my hotel in Manhattan 😀 The crowd here tonight was noticeably younger than the Austin show I attended back in April. Awesome time

December 14Dec 14 Portugal. The Man at Brushy Street Commons. That was an absolute blast. This is their environment. The performance and energy was 1,000% better than their large venue shows. Much more punk than usual. They still need some better lighting on stage though. Hopefully they continue to do these small venue second nights on future tours.
December 14Dec 14 Going to see Echo and the Bunnymen in May. It will be my ~6th time to see them. Most recently, in 2022, I saw them at ACL LIve (missed them in 2024 - traveling). As always, the music was spot on. Ian McCulloch's voice struggled at times. At one point, he surprisingly left the stage. Guitarist Will Sargent looks bemused and proceeds to lead a 10-15 minute jam session. McCulloch comes back on stage, mentions his back hurt and went off stage to get a quick massage. I am glad I got to see a show early in their tour, as I feared he'd wear out. Cautiously optimistic, but I cannot resist the nostalgia.
December 14Dec 14 got my june 2026 tickets for lord huron at red rocks. planning to take our little kids for their first concert.
