Fillmore Philly balcony is clutch. I don't mind crowded floors, but I can't be showing up 30 minutes before the opening act and trying to keep my spot for 2-3 hours. Plus my wife is short so if she's gonna see we have to upgrade to a seat upstairs.

Wish I lucked into tix to War on Drugs at tiny Johnny Brenda's, that will be incredible

That would be great - Johnny Brenda’s is fun.

Saw golden dawn arkestra at the paramount on Saturday. They had dancers and aerialists and a whole big show. Not sure about the floor, but the balcony was maybe 1/4 full and was an all out drug fueled dance party. Good times.

Want Modest Mouse tickets for Thursday? Premium table for two at Fillmore. Paid like $240 for each, would sell for less. Damn snowstorm preventing us from going - I’m so angry.

Foals are a great live band. I know what I’d choose.

Ha ha ha. I’ve seen Foals several times, they are one of my favorites. Easy decision.

Checking back in to say The Smile was definitely worth seeing. Apparently, Thom and Jonny came out and met with fans and signed shit after the show.

Whoa whoa whoa. What is this The Smile of which you speak?

Thom Yorke/Jonny Greenwood side project. Released an album earlier this year and now they're touring with it.

Holiday Pops was great!

Esoteric was good.

Looking at tickets for Billy Strings at Moody in June. Have never been there. Are all the seats good? Where would y'all recommend sitting?

i would recommend being in the pit or preparing for bad sound. sight lines are fine from everywhere.

Going to Hell's Heroes at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston in late March.  I'm not familiar with the area - what's that part of N. Main St. like?  The 5-minute walk to the nearest hotel is a) perfectly safe, b) a death wish, or c) ok with a group of other metalheads?

He wasn’t at this last show in Austin, but I think he did other shows on this tour.

He was diagnosed just a couple of weeks ago.

Go to the doctor, people.

Gonna see my girlfriend play this friday 1/6 with her Merle Haggard cover band, Gerle Haggard, at Mississippi Studios in Portland.  She's a violinist.

Here's a pic because rules.

Got tickets to see Budos Band 2/18 at Roseland Theater and White Denim 3/3 at Wonder Ballroom.

is the roseland theater really as terrible as i've been told? contemplating going to a concert there in march but i've been strongly advised against it by multiple people.

I hate it but they have the best booker in town so I go.

Oregon is fucking weird in that they separate those that drink from those that don't.  So, if you want a beer, you have to go upstairs.  The capacity upstairs is just over 300 people.  Usually the line to get upstairs wraps around the inside of the venue.  One out one in.  Plus, no bathroom up there so if you need to go you have to get back in line again.

Who are you going to see?  Viagra Boys on 3/3?

White Denim is playing that night at Wonder Ballroom.  21+ venue so no weird fuckery.

BottleRock just announced the 2023 lineup.

Looking forward (at first glance) to RHCP, Duran, Pumpkins, Wu, Sheryl Crow, Japanese Breakfast, Mike Campbell, Los Lobos, and War.

Any recommendations on the rest of the lineup?

Airborne Toxic Event puts on a really good show. Saw them in Dallas at House of Blues last year.

I really like Leon Bridges work with Khrungabin (Sp?) not sure about live.

Billy Strings kicks ass.

Particle Kid is Willie's son (Micah).

I'd probably check out Caamp and Lizzo as well.

We bought tickets to one of Jackie Venson's shows at Antone's. She has a residency going on there for the month of January. Anyone else going?

Well, it's not Coachella, but tonight I'm headed to The Hole In The Wall for my daughter's band's EP release (Die Spitz).  If you go and spot a dad-looking dude, just ask "hey are you from the internet"?

Also, they were nominated for three Austin Music Awards, so please spam away if you feel so inclined (Best New Act, Best Punk Band, Best Music Residency):

I think their label is vinyl only.  I'll ask.  It's just a small local outfit.

Saw this on the I Miss Liberty Lunch Facebook group and was like holy shit. Has any club ever had a better 4 week run of bands?

f74fe27990e7d842a913a3bca0615cab.jpg

Ween, Spoon and Cowboy Mouth would have been awesome together. And random.

I was at one of the Sugar shows, can't remember which one.  I know I saw DinoJR at Liberty Lunch, but I'm thinking it was a weekend run where I also saw 10K Maniacs and They Might Be Giants (which was one of the most insane weekends of my life).

Hey, thanks!  They killed.  They also just got called to open for Amyl & the Sniffers in LA in February.  Uh, yes?  Unbeliveable.  It's so cool watching them climb the ladder.

I love Die Spitz! I saw them b/c there is a connection with the Hickoids and I know them very well. Die Spitz is just fantastic, look like they are well on their way to being whatever they'd like to be, and you should be damned proud!

Thanks!  They played with The Hickoids at SXSW last year.  Other than that, I'm not sure if they've done much together.  I am nothing more than a super-fan, they sure don't need my help.  I wish we could kill off the media's obsession with calling them a "girl band", but what are you gonna do?

I keep seeing more and more about them and maybe keep seeing about their music through some of the IG accounts I follow for various music locales.  Very cool, jimmyjazz.

That Liberty Lunch ad... Pop Will Eat Itself.  That would have been awesome!

I'm a little reluctant to keep talking about the band, but somebody filmed a bunch of that show on Friday and along with what's clearly iphone footage cobbled together a pretty cool video:

HA!  Die Spits is one of the bands I have had on my radar but haven's seen yet.  Girl Punk band that fits into my old Club Foot days music profile.  Heck at first I just liked the name.  It's not my wife's cup of tea, so I may shoot you a PM and see if you are at the gig I try to go to.

Starting to get into my Spring music push.  Finally saw Carolyn Wonderland and Shelly King at an early Tuesday continental club show.  They seem to have had a monthly on and then off residency there. Anyhow they were great together, not only killer music but a good show. Highly recommended, and at a 6:30 slot it's what I call "geezer hour!" Also hooked up with my "captain Kurt" from my old club foot and soccer days and saw Love and Chaos for an early 6:00 show at Saxon. AJ Vallejo and his wife? in a band that leans a bit more into the country side but still ripped.  Then we walked down to High Ball as saw "The Saddle Sores" and some folks enjoying dancing to them.  I just liked the name but the band was good even though country is not my preferred genre.

The big show for me was Alejandro Escovedo and the Rant Band at Continental last night.  It was fucking great.  They played the Paramount with a tribute to Mott the Hoople, playing the Album Mott from start to finish.  Since I loved Mott the Hoople and love Alejandro it was a nice mix of songs and I always enjoy the Continental.  Jeff Beck's recent passing reminded me of how old Alejandro is getting and how much I missed his SXSW closeout shows every year on Sundays.  I'm gonna cry when that fucker goes.

Go out and see a band in a small venue!  Support the young bands! Nothing better than seeing a young up and comer in a club, when in a few years later they are playing arenas...

Was it Derka who knew Devin the Dude?  Somebody from the old site did.

I think I would like to see Die Spitz and The Viagra Boys on the same bill.    I heard this Viagra Boys song, and they also have opened for Amyl and the Sniffers.

has anyone ever seen them in the same room ?

@horn4life that Viagra Boys video is awesome.  Why have I never heard of them?  It sounds like what you'd get if Ray Wylie Hubbard and Alejandro Escovedo dropped acid and tried to start a stoner-punk band with homoerotic undertones.

The new guy transplant that DJ's on Sun Radio played this tune and I fell in love with it.  It's sort of my personal party anthem now, (without the IV drug use!).  And yeah the video was not at all what I expected, something DIFFERENT!

Who's that?

I loved that the guy kept getting the draw with his pistol and seemingly never hit anyone.

Saw the Viagra Boys last year I think.  Meh, and I really liked their music.  Haven't listened to them since.  They're very small roomish--if you get a chance.  Think they're playing bigger places now.

Looking forward to seeing Titus Andronicus.

I'd like to see the Walkmen but they sold out the first 3 nights.
