BottleRock just announced the 2023 lineup.

Looking forward (at first glance) to RHCP, Duran, Pumpkins, Wu, Sheryl Crow, Japanese Breakfast, Mike Campbell, Los Lobos, and War.

Any recommendations on the rest of the lineup?

Definitely Taj Mahal, The Struts and maybe Leon Bridges.

I'm a little reluctant to keep talking about the band, but somebody filmed a bunch of that show on Friday and along with what's clearly iphone footage cobbled together a pretty cool video:

They got some L7 stink.  Sound good.

They coming to the East Coast?

Not any time soon, they did NYC for a week in August, are heading to LA in early February and then San Diego to Vancouver in April.

Barring baby band drama, of course.

That's a nicer run than the East Coast by far.  Nothing like the sludge grind of the East Coast.  Ugly beaches and feral looking, pasty people.  I love it, but I don't like nice things.

Well, it's not Coachella, but tonight I'm headed to The Hole In The Wall for my daughter's band's EP release (Die Spitz).  If you go and spot a dad-looking dude, just ask "hey are you from the internet"?

Also, they were nominated for three Austin Music Awards, so please spam away if you feel so inclined (Best New Act, Best Punk Band, Best Music Residency):

I was at The Tavern with some friends this afternoon and one of the guys started talking about the band his neighbor’s daughter was in (pretty sure he said neighbor…we had put away more than a few at that point). When he said the name of the band was Die Spitz, I thought it sounded familiar. Do you know a dude named Jason C?

Doesn't ring a bell.

Now I want to get beers at the Tavern.

Confirmed one of the founding members of the band grew up next door to my friend’s family and is a year older than his twin girls.

Unless you like the Kansas City Chiefs, avoid The Tavern when they are playing.

Other than that, it was great being back to a bar I went to so often between 96 and 03 that I’d get invited to the employee Christmas party.

Will be in Minneapolis in April and I saw one of the nights I am there RHCP are playing so I grabbed a ticket to go check them out.  Seen them once before about 10 years ago.

This looks promising:

Going to see Noah Kahan with Jack Van Cleaf at Emo's this weekend.  My 18 yo daughter (no pics) bought us tickets for Christmas.  I'd never heard of either, but she play Kahan on spotify one day at the house and its about my speed.  Mostly excited about spending the evening with my daughter enjoying a show that she picked out for us.  More mostly excited that she didn't pick Taylor Swift or Harry Styles for us.

I've only heard "Stick Season" on Sun/KUTX, but if that's an indication of Noah Kahan's facility with words, I'm going to be digging in more.  That song is like a folk Eminem.  (Only half joking.)

Going to a show with your kid is a cool experience. Took mine to a couple when he was in maybe 5th or 6th grade. We saw Stick Figure in a small (all ages) show in deep ellum and Matisyahu at southside ballroom.

Any New Order fans?  They are coming to Texas in March....

Saturday looks especially fun with BRMC, Black Angels and the Raveonettes:

Thanks.  Just got some tickets to the San Antonio show.

It was announced that they are performing at SXSW too.  It now makes sense as to why they are playing three random dates in Texas.

We just got tickets for Dallas....I'm pretty excited since I missed out on New Order and Pet Shop Boys last year.  Looks like I'm going with a bunch of Sigma Phi Omegas lol.

My lovely wife has been hounding me about being more “intentional” in my parenting of our 14yo daughter.

So, I’m taking her to see Harry Styles in Palm Springs this week.

Prayers are appreciated. 😂

She’s intentionally surrounding you thousands of horny middle aged women with your kid as your wingman? Godspeed and make sure you have separate hotel rooms.

If you were a fan of Banana Blender Surprise or The El Orbits, David Beebe will be in Austin from Marta and will be at The Hole in the Wall on February 22nd.

Meanwhile last night at the Jackie Venson show...

Saturday looks awesome.  I've been wanting to see Wine Lips for a while.  Canadian punk band.  Don't sleep on Acid Dad either.  They're great as well.  Used to love Night Beats old sound.  Not as in to their Nashville sound now.

Opening act was alright.  Noah Kahan, though, put on a hell of a show.  High energy, great lyrics, and a variety of instruments including banjo and mandolin.  Would have been better if I had known the songs, but very enjoyable.  My daughter had a great time.

I am now convinced, though, that I am too old for general admission.  Standing for four and a half hours is not my jam any longer.

Saw her last weekend at Antone's. Found her during lockdown on social media and have been looking forward to seeing her.  Her new album all sounds the same to me - she could have stopped after the 1st 2 songs and moved on.  She's at her best when she's really jamming out and playing guitar like a boss, so the 2nd half of the show was better, imo.

That's how I found her... she has a particular sound for sure that tends to resonate throughout many of her songs but, yeah, second half when she really let loose was for sure amazing.

Yeah, I like Jackie's music, but I'm not over the moon for it.  I mean, it's not fair to anyone to say "well, you're not SRV or Duarte", so I get my high bar to clear.  She's a very good player and she's shrewd.  (And, I found out my daughter's band will be earlier on the bill that Jackie is headlining for Austin Music Awards, so I'll finally see her live.)

That Strat looks almost exactly like my Warmoth partscaster, right down to the slight metal flake in the paint.  Looks like her bridge pickup might not have the typical angle, though?

Bought GA tickets for New Order in Dallas (The Factory) on Saturday and got back in for the venue presale today to see about reserved tickets upstairs. Holy fuck -- $300 per ticket, $350 along the rail. After refreshing quite a few times, and seeing a buddy get two upstairs for $650 total, I tried again just to see. I got the option to buy two on the rail with a total bill of $774.76. You've got to be fucking kidding me! I paid $198 for the two downstairs this weekend and didn't feel like having nearly $1000 in NO tickets in hand.

Oh, and LCD Soundsystem is coming to Grand Prairie in June as part of Re:SET Festival. I'm in!

Yeah. The price for the New Order tix in Dallas are a non-starter. I mean I like them but come the fuck on.

I'm a complete fucking NO/Joy Division fanboy who has never seen them live. I passed about a decade ago when they rolled through because Peter Hook was no longer with the band. I must see them once before I shuffle off this mortal coil. But I ain't paying $300+ per ticket for upstairs and will just slum it with the plebes down below.
