September 24, 20223 yr Just saw an Instagram post that posited if Tyreek Hill might be the fastest NFL player ever. There were some interesting names in the comments - like Darrell Green. I'll define fast here as fastest with the ball as that was the context of the video posted of Tyreek. From what I've seen highlight-wise - Bo Jackson and Randy Moss would be my top choices. Who are some other players that were virtually uncatchable with the ball?
September 24, 20223 yr Willie Gault Chris Johnson James Trapp Darrell green All those could go. Not sure where they all rank.
September 24, 20223 yr Deion Sanders. He was ridiculously fast. Edited September 24, 20223 yr by Waterboarder
September 24, 20223 yr Dante Hall was fucking ridiculous for 3 or 4 years. The volume of ridiculous plays sways me to the newest generation. Chris Johnson Tyreek Hill The style of football played currently provides them significantly more opportunities but they made people look ridiculous more oftenthan those of the earlier generations. Probably more publicity with ubiquitous media replays too. I’d love to see some of the greatest play the current game.
September 24, 20223 yr Popular Post Not sure why this is even a discussion theres literally records on it. Bob Hayes set a world record in the 100m and still has the fastest leg in the history of the 4x100, faster than Usain Bolts.
September 24, 20223 yr I know Darrell Green ran a 4.24 forty at age 42. Saw it on the DC news when I was visiting my grandmother one summer. He had to put a rookie in his place about being the fastest. 4.24 is insanely fast. 4.24 at 42 is unimaginable.

There's a difference between football speed and track speed.

September 24, 20223 yr Its interesting you post this I was thinking about the other day how with baseball and basketball oldheads love to gatekeep and claim today's players aren't nearly as good as the players of bygone eras. Seems like its generally understood today's NFL players are the biggest and fastest and most skilled they've ever been.

September 24, 20223 yr If you’re ok with the athlete dropping the football soon after making contact with it, then Alexander Wright is the answer.

September 24, 20223 yr NextGen Stats tracked Raheem Mostert at over 23 mph on an 80 yard td scamper in 2020. That's faster than Hill.
September 24, 20223 yr Just to add on, the zone defense as a concept was invented because of bob hayes.
September 24, 20223 yr I’ll go with Bob Hayes. I used to work with his ex-wife. That woman could tell some stories.

September 24, 20223 yr Tyrek is probably top 2-3 quickest players ever. For speed over 10yds, no question Bullet Bob.
September 24, 20223 yr Bo was a freak for size vs speed. It’s not really close. Not an athlete on planet earth other than hershal walker that approachs him.

September 24, 20223 yr Bullet Bob Hayes was my first pro autograph as a kid. Nice guy, friendly to a 10 yr old at a lame card show. (Nobody asked, but My 3rd autograph was Danny Darwin of Fannin County fame. Hard to imagine a bigger gap of excellence.)
