LSU trash.  I tried it on their home turf.  One opened around the corner from me and I haven't been once.  The special sauce is a variation of the mixture of ketchup/mayo/relish that every fast food place has.  And the only side options are shitty fries or gloppy cole slaw.

I’ll add an asterisk. The original Cane’s in Baton Rouge was excellent. Much better than other locations. But it’s been a some years.

Layne’s has it dialed it. A newer location in Katy is just as good as the original.

I’ll never understand a place that sells tenders, but doesn’t offer gravy.

This right here.

Went one time and the tenders are good but without gravy…? Fuck them.

I don’t want to dip them in some sort of mayo and ketchup concoction.

I haven't had Texadelphia in forever, but goddamn that mustard blend is good.

Did a site search for this place. It seems the lion share of locations have shut down from their big market blitz of 20 years ago. I had one for lunch today for the first time in 10 years. Mustard blend still great. Still a good lunch. Not sure what there is to hate on.

Man, I thought Texadelphia was completely gone. But the website lists three locations – Oklahoma City, Eastland, and Sunset Valley.

I miss the one off 15th and San Antonio. Used to go there for lunch all the time in my younger days.

The only place I’ve ever gotten food poisoning. Used to love the founder’s favorite but haven’t been back in almost 20 years.

Delaware Subs has taken a giant dump.  They're down to one location in NW Austin and for the life of me I can't figure out how they haven't been flagged for multiple health code violations.  It's too bad, their original cheesesteak was pretty legit.

Yeah, that shop is hanging on by a thread.

Texadelphia just opened a new location here in Garden Oaks. I don't have much hope for it long term, but I need to try and go a few times before they shut down. Still, here's to hoping.

Is the one on the drag dead?

The waitress came up to us at lunch (Richardson, off 75 location) and told us to enjoy because they are closing down for good on Friday. Sheesh. I guess it will be another Indian food joint.

I think the one on the drag died a long time ago.

I didn’t see a Richardson location on the website. I guess that’s why.

I had a cheesesteak from them about 2 years ago. Nothing like it used to be.

I don't feel like I've ever been to a sub place and left feeling like, "Wow that was really good!"

Feels more like, "Yup, that was a sandwich for lunch."

If only someone knew the recipe for Texadelphia's mustard blend.

Didn’t Texadelphia have a spot out at Dell Diamond?  Loved Delaware Subs chicken philly.

Not sure if serious, but here you go:

4 parts mayo (use Dukes)

2 parts Gulden's spicy brown mustard

1 part teriyaki sauce.

Scale to however much you want to make. I usually do 1/2 c. for the mayo part. Found it years ago from some guy on Hornfans who used to work there.

Tucci’s Southside Sub has an identical Philly. I worked on Medical for years, lived near Bedichek for years, only ever got the Philly, same same.

Mix mayo and spicy brown mustard in equal parts. Add Kikkoman teriyaki to taste.

Went to Katz’ in East Village two weeks ago when I was in the City, now that’s a sandwich for lunch! Line was out the door at like 11:30am. 10x the Katz we used to frequent on 6th street at 3am

Kenny & Ziggy's in Houston will give you the same City experience.

Huge huge huge difference between a sub shop and a deli

No. I eat K&Z regularly, and Katz’s in New York is far superior. That said K&Z is excellent.

The Katz’s line is unfortunate. I remember the place being half empty in August back in the day. You could actually sit at the When Harry Met Sally table with somebody waiting on you.

We wanted to try something different last night, and landed on Cover 3.  I don't know how highly people think of it, but if the answer is "high", it's overrated.  My burger was a solid 4 out of 10, although the fries weren't bad.  I know I've had a good brunch there so maybe the takeaway is "don't order the burger".

You know what I really fucking miss? SRO.

Talk about an overrated dish, instead of restaurant, is the Philly cheesesteak.  Most places it’s a horrible thing to eat, even in Philly.  In Philly the thing to get is a pork with broccolini sandwich, with long hots.

I think a ribeye Philly with provolone and grilled onions on a great roll is damn near the perfect sammich.

Yep, there's bad ones done cheap and easy and really fucking spectacular ones with the right ingredients

It's a restaurant.  It's on Anderson Lane so it's close to our house.  We've had good brunch there before.  That's it.

and in this case "identical" is literally identical. From Reddit:

Check out Hoody's in Round Rock also. Mr. Hoody started it all and Tucci's is an offshoot from his creations. The original owner of Delaware Subs and Tucci's was a Delaware before. Big difference is the price, anywhere from 2 to 3 dollars cheaper. I love both, though. Tucci's changed the Delaware menu some while Hoody's is the original menu. Delaware on Mesa is a shell of it's former self, Hoody's is where you want to go if you want to try what Delaware tasted like before Mr. Hoody sold his half and the remaining owner franchised it to death. I live off Mesa and drive out to Round Rock when I want that sub. Eff Delaware.

C3 has gone down quite a bit since Covid.  However, there are still solid items on the menu.  Get the Winning Wings...chipotle ranch wings with a lime crema and grilled jalapenos.  Also, get the coleslaw. It's made with blue cheese, apples, and candied pecans.  That's my standard order.  Their hot chicken sandwich is also really good.

That sucks. It's out of the way, but we would go there occasionally for the texican and drown it in mustard blend. They had gotten pretty pricey the last few years and smaller in size, but still tasted good.  There is a place called cheesesteak house in the Dallas area that has a better value and better tasting cheesesteak that you can make just like a texican. Add jalapanos and get the queso on the side of the cheesy cheesesteak (it's a lot of cheese all on the sandwich at once if not) and get the "honey mustard". It's identical to the mustard blend at Texadelphia.

I really liked their Memorial Drive / Asbury location. We had a HornFans HH there back around 2004 or so which was when I realized half the board were folks I knew from growing up in Houston.

My memory of the times I stopped in were that it was a darn good spot for watching football and other sports.

It was a great spot for watching sports. We used to go there for games all the time. Sadly, it was never more than half full, hardly ever. I think they just got too big a spot for that part of town. I dunno. We were sad when it closed.
