It’s so good

Barbara getting the Black celebrities mixed up with their similarly named white counterpoints was one of their best gags.

Welp, we know how Post Oak gets down.

Pretty good show, but I can’t recommend binging. Watch 3-5 episodes and call it for the day. I mean , it’s ABC.

The principal is funny as hell.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is a striking woman.

She had me back in the Moesha days but for some reason she didn't want me.

This show is mildly humorous, but I am going to stick it out for a bit to see if it finds its stride.

I was aghast when I found out the sub is the kid from Everybody Hates Chris and he is 30 years old now. I'm old and I don't care for that fact.

I’m a big fan of the show, but this week’s ep seemed like they had already checked out. It felt like a Season 10 Modern Family “We’re just cashing checks now” stage. I hope they haven’t done a Fonzie jump, three episodes into S2.

Edited to add Vulture gave it 5 stars, so what do I know…

I think the show is brilliant. My wife loves it. As a teacher she says the teachers and situations they go through are spot on what it’s like at her school and the schools she’s taught at.

I wanted to knock boots with Moesha back in the 90's.

this week’s episode was awful. Not funny, terrible premise.

a lot to like tonight, including harden eye roll, baby thanos, and mini-janitor.

My wife and I really love the show but I will agree this season has not been as good as last season. I really can't stand the teacher's aide, she should have been fired first day. And I especially don't like the direction the principal is going. Doing side businesses instead of her job. It's lost something.

The aide is terrible. She was shitty on the last season of curb your enthusiasm too. I thought she was playing a character since her dad had to blackmail Larry to get her a part. No that's her bit, she's a way less talented Danny McBride.

Halloween episode was probably my favorite. Lots of belly laughs.

Man, I tried. But this show just isn’t good. Just another of many bad ABC comedies.

I’d say it’s late season Modern Family level quality. The comparisons to The Office are very forced and based entirely on the mockumentary format.

The Ringer guys LOVE the show. They’ve called it the best on TV. And I just don’t get it. I think critics are starved for excellent comedies. Abbott is decent to good in a landscape awash in shitty comedies.

F da haters, just caught up on this and love it.  Very funny in parts, and poignant in others.

The new season has been great.

The Jeremy Allen Black joke was great.

The show has grown on me. I’m laughing quite a bit while I watch it on the bike.

Good:

- Ava. Janelle James should kill her reps for not getting her on SNL. She could have been a huge star. Not sure why she’s not now. She’s great in every scene.

- Melissa really has her moments when she leans into the wop thing. Her being from South and having a guy for everything is hilarious.

- Mr Johnson does so much with the little he’s given. Terrific performer.

- Mr C. It’s hard to get high strung, gay man right, but he knocks it out of the park. The blacks kids destroying him for being corny is so damned funny.

- Interesting episode premises. The desking mystery, Baby Thanos, Story Samurais. Jokes within jokes with a lot of funny stuff going on in the background.

- Tariq. Gone too soon. He would great in his show about a struggling rapper. Too bad FX has driven the genre into the fucking ground.

Bad:

- The Janine and Gregory romance being a page by page copy of Jim and Pam. I understand Brunson probably had to do it to sell the show, but it diminishes their performances. Gregory is probably a pretty funny update on Jim if it wasn’t so deliberate. The eye rolls, reclining the seat like Jim, his disinterest in his job. Props for dating Amber. She is indeed a bad bitch. Even Jim nailed Amy Adams.

- Janine is a good straight man, but I can’t remember a single good one liner from her. No great for the  creator, showrunner, head writer and star in your own show. Her funniest scenes are with Tariq and he didn’t make it out of Season 1. I know Pam has to break up with Roy eventually, but I would have liked to see more of them together.

S5 is off to a pretty rough start. I’m glad it’s a network show and there are 20 episodes left. Plenty of time to rally.
