I think the edge room seriously consisted of only Jett Bush.

Poor cannonball form costs Lanning Richard Wesley.

Cute video is where it's at with the young people.

Kids are all on the Tik Tok flashing moves. Or just trotting.

There’s something about combining elite Texas and California kids to conquer the southeast that makes me feel like a million bucks. They never should’ve let us into their conference.

Unsurprisingly, I like it

Apologies for subjecting the board to anything from OB, but they got a pretty banger quote from our new DE Commit.

Anyone got any of that doom and gloom Satya stuff from earlier this week? The boners are starting to get too big ‘round these parts again.

As noted upthread, Lanning does seem to have some Mensa Tom in him. That's obviously not a compliment. Sark I think might rather try a corndog with mayo than jump into a vat of nacho cheese.

There's something so ironic and so delicious about the fact as an institution we spent our entire existence striving to keep the SEC out of Texas. It was a huge source for the resentment of A&M joining the conference after it was seen we were "partnered together" trying to keep the SEC out. We felt a bit back stabbed. Not that SEC schools had no success recruiting Texas before, but A&M's entrance opened the floodgates.

So in the best if you can't beat them, join them sort of way, we join the SEC as well, and now we've quickly started drinking their milkshake.

This season in recruiting has in many ways been my lifelong ideal. Yes, I always loved when we dominated recruiting the best athletes in Texas and won with predominantly Texas high school rosters, but I always looked at national recruiting powers and wondered why we couldn't do that as well. I am a bit stunned at the current shift. I always felt like we could if we really tried, but it's been a master class in terms of a systematic approach. From the staff working their tails off visiting schools across the country, evaluating players, being selective and strategic in terms of who they bring in on visits, managing the NIL piece. It's a wet dream come true.

Regarding the SEC, I keep having that The Watchmen reference run through my head. "I'm not trapped in here with you. You're trapped in here with me!"

Tyler Atkinson texted Gerry Hamilton following Atkinson’s official visit.

Here’s what he texted Gerry:

“My OV to Texas was eye-opening! This could be my last visit before I make the right choice, and

I really feel it was a great decision to visit there. “

“This was my 4th visit with the Longhorns outside of pretty much living in Austin the past month for training. I have made some great connections there for sure.

The biggest highlight this weekend was Coach Sark! I really appreciate the fact that he took the lead on my recruitment and has been hands-on with everything. That has shown me a lot.”

“I spent the majority of the time with Coach Sark, Coach Nansen, and the defensive coordinator, PK. I also spent time with the Dline & Edge coaches too.

“Honestly, Coach Sark and the entire staff made me feel like a priority, and I could be a key piece to the defense.”

“I feel really good about Texas, and they are one of my top schools to consider.

However, I am blessed to have some great options to choose from. I have a lot to consider from the past few weeks when it comes to my final decision.“

Biggest Takeaways from June 20th Official Visit Weekend

Surprise, Surprise!

You never quite know what recruiting can bring you on a day to day in 2025. That could not be emphasized more by the commitment of Sierra Canyon EDGE Richard Wesley who just wrapped up his official visit this afternoon.

The lows of last weekend feel like a distance vision in the rear view mirror at the moment and that's just the beauty of the world of recruiting.

Richard Wesley's commitment was not one of the outstanding "Hi's" and it was a surprising to me, at least, that a decision came as quickly as it did. The only other official visit that was scheduled by Wesley was to Ohio State on August 30 for week one's matchup against Texas. Now, the Longhorns land one of the top edge rushers in the country.

Oh, I should add – even after the reclassification from 2026 to 2027, Wesley remains a top 15 player in the country. That is a special talent.

***

Defensive Front Seven Haul

With Wesley's decision to commit to Texas, the Longhorns add another blue-chip out of stater to the 2026 class. On paper, there probably is not a better class in the country when it comes to the defensive front seven forecast.

Texas has commitments from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and California on the front seven and could add prospects from Florida, Georgia and New Jersey as well. The Longhorns are recruiting SEC-level talent from SEC territories.

Fort Myers DL Kendall Geurvil told me this afternoon that Texas remained his No. 1 school in his recruitment after his official visit.

Miami Northwestern DL James Johnson bumped Syracuse for Texas this weekend and called Texas "DLU" following his trip. Johnson said he should announce in the next day or two his decision date.

Add in Damari Simeon out of New Jersey and the quality of prospect Texas is pursuing currently is as high as I have ever seen it.

***

On the Topic of Linebacker

We have seen some questions in the chat of livestreams and here on the board about the future of Tyler Atkinson and Xavier Griffin at the next level and where they would play.

Xavier Griffin told OTF last week the pitch from Texas included playing off of the edge to begin his college career before eventually moving to off ball linebacker as his body continues to develop.

As for Tyler Atkinson, Texas is recruiting him in the middle of the field. Atkinson said Texas wants him to be the "quarterback of the defense" at the next level, calling the defense and roaming the middle. Atkinson has been training in the Austin area with Longhorn legend Derrick Johnson over the past few weeks, an arrangement that was set up by current linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.

The linebacker position continues to have work needed to be down, but the picture is becoming clearer as the Longhorn look to add 3-4 backers in the class this cycle.

***

At Tight End

There were rumors floating around that Coronado (Calif.) TE Keawe Browne was going to make a decision in favor of the Longhorns this morning. Well, the morning has come and gone and we have yet to see a decision come from Browne.

Instead, Browne told OTF this morning he was going to wait a week or two before making any sort of decision. Texas hosted Heze Kent for an official visit last week and Bowdon (Ga.) TE Kaiden Prothro was on campus this weekend as well.

I caught up with Prothro this afternoon, who kept things relatively close to the vest, but did share how the Longhorns planned to use him in the offense –

"Really just me as a split out guy and being a mismatch nightmare for the defense and just get me the ball and playmake."

A decision for Prothro will come in the next month, with the contenders including Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Texas "measured up well" according to Prothro after his trip.

Emaree Winston was the lead host on the trip for the Georgia native.

Sounds like the staff had a similar "holy shit you're small" moment with Browne as the board did

Yeah, that reads like they might not have pushed or let him do any pushing either. Sort of like @BurntOrange&White on his prom date.

Atkinson feels like a bridge too far but then I remind myself that Justus Terry is on campus.

And I remind myself Richard Wesley just committed out of the blue. Atkinson’s been in town training with DJ. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but it seems realistic.

What would our ranking be if we removed the kicker, punter, and LS?

Just curious as to where we’d sit.

Outside of the K, P, LS, I can see Reilly being the only 3* player in the class.  Brown will be bumped, he was the best WR at one of the recent camps and Rivals was posting all about it, so he'll get a big bump next rankings update.

I think if you go over 25 commits the lower recruits get dropped from team composite.

I’ll trade a spot or two in the recruiting rankings for a guy who can hit a medium distance kick from the right hash in an SEC champ game.
