Hmmmm... he had a lot of known issues.

Getting Ffrench and already living rent free “in their head” is the quickest recruiting shift in a long time. Maybe the seeds from Mack’s last hoorah Florida trip are finally paying dividends.

Makes sense to me. There's so many athletic receivers in the state every year. Might as well take advantage of it and dedicate resources to positions that don't have as much abundance.

Didn't Texas just allocate a decent amount of their resources last cycle to WR? I know they didn't get Moore but still a heck of a position group for one cycle.

I wonder if our wide receiver class last year has any bearing on our wide receiver class this year. In other words, if the freshmen look good in practice maybe the staff would be okay getting developmental players this year. Personally, I think the answer is that the coaches may look at the overall health of the room but barely even take the freshmen class into account simply because you never know how things will turn out with freshmen even if they are performing well in practice (see Cook).

Great WR’s are fun, and important. But not worth bankrupting yourself over. Alabama had the “best Freshman WR in history” and went 9-4 and probably looking at the same again this year

Are you saying in their history because I would argue he wasn't even the best freshman WR in college football last season.

Reading these back to back is like asking  a magic 8 ball the same question over and over again. Stupid magic 8 ball.

So Cleveland, Berymon, and Wells already in the class. Lead for Guervil and Simeon. Still in pursuit of Johnson and Perry-Wright. No chance we take more than 5 on the DL, right?

Edited by Mason Ramsey

How may RIVALS 100 players will Texas end up with? I say eight.

6 Richard Wesley - Texas
9 Felix Ojo
12 Derrick Cooper
22 Tyler Atkinson
28 Jake Kreul
30 Samari Matthews
36 Kaiden Prothro
46 Jamarion Carlton
50 Jalen Lott
56 Chace Calicut
59 Dia Bell - Texas
61 Bryce Perry-Wright
76 Xavier Griffin
83 Brayden Rouse
93 Kaydon Finley

I don't even think it's much of an argument.

But Ryan Williams is still really good. So is Ryan Wingo, for that matter. But Jeremiah Smith was the best WR last year period, regardless of classification. IMO.

I figured the quote marks would indicate that I was repeating a narrative

I could see a 6 DL class but 5 seems right considering the chart:

One highly ranked recruit is set to announce Thursday: Alabama running back Ezavier Crowell, who is thought to be deciding between Alabama, Texas and Georgia.

Three more blue chippers on Friday:

OL Malakai Lee from Honolulu. It’s a Texas, Georgia, Bama and Michigan battle.

S Chace Calicut from Houston North Shore. It’s between Texas, Georgia and Michigan.

DL Damari Simeon from New Jersey. Texas, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State.

I don’t want to talk about the individual recruits in this column. Instead, I just want you to step back and consider the teams Texas is recruiting against for each of these players.

Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State.

That’s the entire list. It’s indicative of a new dawn for Texas recruiting.

How? Because I’ve never seen a time where Texas was involved in this many hotly contested recruiting battles against other elite programs for players both in state and out. Never.

And it won’t stop this week, it’ll go into the next two weeks as well.

Before our eyes, Texas is morphing from a national brand that focused primarily itself as a regional recruiting power with specific outreach to other parts of the country to a full-fledged national recruiting power that flexes its muscle anywhere it goes.

Again, it’s a new dawn for Texas recruiting.

That being said, we don’t know (and won’t know) if the end results will be better or worse until much later, perhaps three or four years down the road.

But the reality is, Texas is a true national recruiting power. The transformation has happened

That was Lockett and Moore, and I think that had more to do with them getting along with each other

I think Bobby and Gerry are tempering expectations and are still living with a bit of BFS.  None of us expected to get Justus Terry last year and we bitchslapped Georgia.  Texas may be building something truly great for once.  Look at the NFL draft the past 2 years.  Steve is building a machine.

The kid is currently committed, had to be an oversight.

49-17.  These MF's just say anything.

And yet, their comments are usually so much more lucid than those on Aggy boards.

georgia did manhandle us on the lines.  at least their DL vs our OL.  it was embarrassing.  you guys will just say anything.

Two things can be true.  Getting bruised by UGA doesn't equate to not having acquired SEC intensity on the line.  Not when you're 8-1 in that SEC

That is interesting because Bobby did state over the weekend that Xavier would be more of an of Edge to start then transition to an OLB, whereas Atkinson would be more of an MLB. His comments alluded to they could potentially be in the same class. So for Gerry to put this out after the fact, assuming he and Bobby are trading notes and intel, there is something here that might be more than position numbers that would cause them not to be in the same class.

The more interesting thing isn't the and/or of that is that they put a potential date for Atkinson when one, at least from what I've seen, has not been listed yet.

It’s so exciting to be in (our third straight year of) a new dawn for Texas recruiting where we are finally becoming a national recruiting power. What a unique approach from Sark (for the third time in a row). Very happy that we are now starting to recruit outside our state borders (after doing so the last two years)! /s

I would guess that Gerry is simply playing the odds. Its hard to get the #1 and #2 rated recruit at the same position in any class. Texas would take both in a heartbeat

Assuming that we can only get 2 of Turntine/Ojo/Lee, that would give us just a 4-man OL class, which seems light. I was expecting at least 5, maybe 6. What other names are out there?

I lurked the board for a long time, but this is the only handle.  I guess there wasn't sufficient focus on my end to figure out who was who from a posting perspective.  That said, thanks for the heads up and apologies to the board for shitting on it.  Fool me once... 😂
