The jalapeño sausage klobasnik at Hruska’s are slipping some. Cream cheese and poppy seed kolaches were on point. I look Hruska’s because they have a grill and make good burgers, but I might have to go back to Weikel’s.

I miss the baklava at Antone’s. Are there any stores left in Houston? Once they changed the bread, things went downhill. And who was the last great Greek player in college football?

He's coming to Texas, bet the farm. Composite 5 star #30 nationally. Loads of potential. Has great size, speed and vision. Reminiscent of Bijan in a lot of ways the measurables are nearly identical, Cooper is an above average pass catcher too.

I’ve always been anti-Hruska’s, just like I’m anti I-10-71.  290 gives you Truth BBQ and two Weikels.

I didn't know it wasn't open any more. Is it going to be in the Galleria area again? I love me some moussaka - Plus, I am friends with their cousins of the same last name (who unfortunately are all aggy).

Stop buying kolaches at donut shops. Also stop buying them at chains period.  Stop waisting money at Czech Stop while your at it, too much sugar and no poseka(slovaceks is much better).

Mom and pop places only.  Bonus points if they have an old Czech woman wondering around.

Only good Kolache place i ever had in Houston was a bakery in old downtown league city.

League city isn’t even close to being in Houston. Do you think Georgetown is Austin? Because League city is further away from Houston than Georgetown is to Austin.

Yes. There’s one left near TC Jester and 610 north not too far from me.’

You’d rather this thread sit mostly dormant for days on end when there’s no recruiting news to fret over?

His tape is nothing like ankle-breaking Bijan. He's a power runner, tough as hell, with speed.

Bobby keeps saying how they need "a stud too end running back". Running backs are a lot like linemen where the recruiting services miss on them all the time. The best RBs are usually not highly recruited, at least at the top 5 or so in the country. Just look at 2022. The top 7 RBs according to 247 composite were

Nick Singleton - very solid

Henderson - bust

Raleek Brown - bust

jamarion Miller - bust

Leveon Moss - ok

Jayson Blue - solid but flawed

Gavin Sawchuck - mostly bust

Jeanty and Skattebo were 2 of the top RBs in the country last season and neither were recruited highly. RBs are about evaluation and having a good line.

100% sure the unpublished Looch 44 has KJ Edwards at the real #1 RB in the nation.

Evaluation/development at the RB position hasn’t really been a problem here and we have the draft results to prove it.

Considering Jam Miller a bust, but not Jaydon Blue one is... a take

Who the best RB in the nation is, obviously.

He had an ok 2024. 668 yds at 4.6 per with 7 TDs. That's ok, but not good enough for the 3rd year of a guy ranked as the 4th best RB in the country coming out. He did next to nothing in the receiving game and next to nothing his first 2 years. Not a full on bust as a recruit, but a bust compared to his ranking coming out.

Blue was similar rushing, 730 yds at 5.4 per and 8 TDs. But Blue was much better out of the backfield. 42 receptions at 8.8 per for 6 TDs. Blue was definitely the better back outside of the fumbles.

Ya Bijan Robinson’s 2020 #1 ranking by 247 was a huge miss. Texas should have gone after a two star somewhere instead.

Leading rusher outside of Jalen Milroe at Alabama despite being in a crowded backfield.

Jaydon Blue, on the other hand, got benched a few times during the season. Despite RB1 going down in fall camp, lost his bell cow opportunity to unheralded, undersized Tre Wisner.

Take the ULM game out of the equation and his numbers are much less impressive.

I don't like Miller based on how he did us in his recruitment, but him becoming a reliable option in that offense is impressive and it wouldn't surprise me if he had a breakout season next year.

Someone doesn't understand there are always exceptions. Bijan is elite. Someone of that caliber only comes out of HS every few years at most.

I did 2022. Go back several years before that and look at the top 7 RBs by recruiting services. Then see how they turned out.

Edited by Hermanator

Why do you take the ULM game stats out? Did it not count?

Look, Blue had a fumbling problem, it’s something that caused him to get pulled from stretches of games and it’s something he’ll need to fix now that he’s at the next level. But it was always going to be a timeshare with Wisner once Baxter was injured, so I’m not sure he was ever considered a “starter” who could be benched. His ankle injury vs. Michigan cost him some time.

Regarding losing opportunities to the “undersized” Wisner, Blue measured barely over 5’9” at the combine. I suspect Wisner is taller, maybe about the same weight.

I don’t consider Miller a bust, but he hasn’t set the world on fire either. He obviously has more chances to do so.

In the NIL era do you want to pay a running back near top of the market money for them to give almost no production for 3 years and maybe break out in year 4? In this day of big money for top guys that timeline is reserved for low cost developmental guys. A top money guy like Cooper, Edwards, Crowell, etc is a bust if he's taking that kind of money and produces what Miller did in 3 seasons.

This is silly, why are you taking the ULM game out? Take the USF game out for Miller and he would've barely gotten over 500 yards rushing on the season.

Blue had more rushing yards on fewer carries, more touchdowns and more than double the receiving yards than Miller did. Miller hasn't been that great, Wisner would've took his job too.

It's all one gigantic mess as far as I'm concerned.  I lived on the metro area for a decade and it's a heck of a lot closer than any other good kolache places I found.

Yeah it closed back in 2020 after we moved to the great white north.

Miller took the job from Justice Haynes and Richard Young. He was their steady guy. Really good at pass pro, caught the ball out of the back field well, etc.

Blue was given multiple opportunities to make this his year, but fumbled it over and over again. Wisner, like Miller, wasn't even given snaps like that until Blue showed he couldn't be trusted and he had a minor injury.

The offenses are also completely different. Not gonna derail the thread further, but I believe Jam is no less of a bust than Blue.

Jalapeño bacon cheeseburger is legit!

You all are missing out on the glorious kolaches offered at Green's sausage house in Zabcikville. The sausage burgers are legit, too.

After the last few years of quality running backs at Texas. I cannot fathom why a young man would not wat to come to Texas? Oh yeah I forgot the new reason why "$".

I can see that with Justice Haynes transferring out to Michigan (former #3 overall RB).

Technically League City is right next to Houston. It's not the same as Georgetown is to Austin, because Austin hasn't aggressively swallowed up the neighborhoods next door to it. When Houston annexed places like Clear Lake, Alief, and Kingwood, it made the places next to it very close. League City abuts the city of Houston in the areas it annexed in 1977.

I doubt there's another major city in the United States that has more aggressively swallowed up its ETJs. I know there isn't one in Texas. If you look at DFW, Dallas is landlocked by all the suburban towns around it. It can't grow. Houston made sure they weren't going to have the same issue. Against those neighborhoods wishes, at least in the case of Kingwood and Clear Lake.

Blue was the starter to open the season. He started the first 4 games he was healthy (out for UTSA). Jayden was the starter, until MSU happened. After that point it was Wisner getting the lion's share of the carries. Wisner's emergence as a reliable option was one of the bigger surprises of 2024.

Edited by Codaxx

I love the take that because Ashton Jeanty, 90th ranked RB in the 2022 composite, is better than Jam Miller, we should not want a top 5 RB recruit. Should we flip the current 90th ranked RB from Old Dominion? I bet everyone here would be thrilled.

Recruiting: The latest

The Texas staff battling on the trail with the heavy hitters. OnTexasFootball provides the latest.

Texas and Derrek Cooper …

OTF 5-star RB Derrek Cooper will announce his decision July 20. The Longhorns are in the thick of the fight with six days until he announces.

In fact, Texas and Ohio State are receiving more chatter than Miami. Six days in recruiting is an eternity.

As OTF first reported when Cooper announced he had cancelled his previous announcement date, he is expected to make an OV to Texas during the season.

Tyler Atkinson and Texas …

Another 5-star update. The Loganville (Ga.) Grayson linebacker is a Georgia vs Texas battle with a decision expected shortly. He’s been in conversations with both staffs in the last few hours.

Oregon and Clemson have hats at the tab.

Texas will stay on top targets committed elsewhere …

The Longhorns aren’t going to back off top targets such as 4-star++ DL abd Georgia verbal James Johnson (Miami/Northwestern), 5-star and LSU commit EDGE Trenton Henderson , 4-star++ WR and Oregon commit Jalen Lott and 4-star++ OT and Michigan commit Malakai Lee. Those for sure will remain targets.

Then, Gerry in the comments:
