As a single nurse in Pearl Harbor, Kate Beckinsale wasn’t really all that hot, but as a married mom in 2006’s Click, she was hot as fuck (as she is in most everything). We also won a national championship in January 2006, so there’s that fact.

Also, about 8 years ago, my wife and daughter left the house to adopt a “kitty”. They came back with the weirdest juvenile cat in the world. Followed my wife around like a dog, hunted the children, could jump straight up close to 12 feet, refused to drink water where it ate, had really strange markings, was super long and super tall. Still is all of that weird shit, actually. Anyway, to your point, turns out it’s like a 3rd generation savannah cat. Look that shit up.

@SydneyCarton and his wife are wild ass cat people, so I’ve tried on multiple occasions to get them to adopt him away from our house. Even they’re not crazy enough to take him on.

You can make all the jokes you want, but I'm pretty sure you're the one who spent thousands of dollars on that cat to put it in an iron lung to save it's life.

Fun Fact, Pat McAfee is @closetojumping's favorite college football analyst. "He adds real personality to the shows, guys." His opinion was in such a minority in our text group that now he's gotten super defensive about it, trying to proactively frame some dumb antic or take McAfee has as prescient or smart. I think he even defended McAfee's pick of aTm for last year's football game. "Guys, obviously I expect to win, but McAfee had some good points."

Wiltfong: Texas trending for No. 1 LB, picking up steam with three more elite prospects as well

Quote

Texas has Rivals No. 14 ranked recruiting class headlined by a pair of five-stars in Dia Bell and Richard Wesley.

And Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are working hard on the trail to add to this 2026 haul in a big way prior to fall camp.

Rivals has the latest intel as the SEC program makes a run at several Top 50 recruits and another terrific class. Texas finished No. 1 a cycle ago.
Sarkisian and company trending for another five-star

The Rivals Industry’s No. 1 ranked linebacker Tyler Atkinson will announce his commitment on Tuesday afternoon. One of the first prospects in the 2026 class to emerge nationally, Georgia had been considered the front-runner, if not the leader, for a lot of a process that dates back to eighth grade.
But over the last month or so we’ve really seen Texas emerge and the Longhorns are the favorite to land Atkinson’s commitment. The city has become Atkinson’s home away from home where he trains in preparation of having a big senior season and beyond. We are predicting him to land there full time.
Atkinson took his final official visit of the process to Austin the weekend of June 20. The Adidas athlete is also expected to land a strong deal with the Burnt Orange.

“Man, Texas has made my decision process really hard!” Atkinson said. “My OV to Texas was eye-opening! This could be my last visit before I make the right choice, and I really feel it was a great decision to visit there.”

“This was my fourth visit with the Longhorns outside of pretty much living in Austin the past month for training. I have made some great connections there for sure. The biggest highlight this weekend was Coach Sark! I really appreciate the fact that he took the lead on my recruitment and has been hands-on with everything. That has shown me a lot.

“I spent the majority of the time with Coach Sark, Coach Nansen, and the defensive coordinator, PK. I also spent time with the d-line and edge coaches too. Honestly,  Coach Sark and the entire staff made me feel like a priority, and I could be a key piece to the defense. I feel really good about Texas, and they are one of my top schools to consider. However, I am blessed to have some great options to choose from. I have a lot to consider from the past few weeks when it comes to my final decision.”

Atkinson has pointed to the development of Anthony Hill Jr. and the opportunity to come in and replace one of the best defenders in college football next fall.

“I love Coach Sark,” Atkinson said at the end of last month. “Great coach. Great person. Love Coach Nansen. He always did a great job recruiting. It’s so easy to talk to him. They just have a great fit. They’re going to have a Top 10 pick at linebacker in Anthony Hill.
It’s been great.”

Atkinson is the No. 9 overall recruit in the nation.
Intel picking up for Texas regarding No. 2 RB
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna blue-chipper and the Rivals Industry’s No. 2 running back Derrek Cooper will announce his commitment on July 20.
Georgia and Texas look to be battling. Miami and Ohio State round out the top four.

I’ve heard good things around both Athens and Austin. A source around Coral Gables believes things are really picking up for the Longhorns.

Texas is on the gas with Cooper and there is definitely optimism he too could join the fold soon.

The Rivals Industry Rankings tabs Cooper as the nation’s No. 37 prospect regardless of position.

Texas rising with prized edge rusher

While my Rivals prediction is currently on rival Oklahoma for IMG Academy edge rusher Jake Kreul, a source says Texas is on the move with the four-star recruit. Ole Miss is also one to keep an eye on but it seems like the Longhorns are giving Kreul a lot to think about.

“Texas has a great culture and I love the high level of expectations of to be the best,” Kreul has said. “That just inspires accountability and competitiveness.
“I spent a good amount of time talking with Coach Sark. I really like him a lot. Definitely a Coach I see pulling the best out of me.”

Kreul is the No. 40 prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings regardless of position.

Another still in play for the Longhorns

Georgia landed a commitment from Rivals No. 1 ranked defensive lineman James JJ Johnson at the end of June.

While the Bulldogs led for a lot of the process, it was an abrupt announcement he was joining the fold.

There were sources around Austin that liked where Texas stood prior to Johnson jumping in with UGA and the Longhorns are one of the programs still recruiting Johnson heavily.

There has always been optimism around Texas that they’re in strong position. He visited in the spring and returned for an OV in the summer.
“My favorite thing about Texas is how they practice,” Johnson has said. “I know they will be a great team in this upcoming season.”
Johnson is the No. 42 overall player in the land.

What a difference a year makes.

A year ago this week, pundits questioned whether or not the supposedly soft Longhorns would be ready for the rough and tumble SEC.

The prevailing thought? Texas would be ill-equipped to handle a line of scrimmage league over the length of a season, that the previous year against Alabama was an anomaly.

Today, those same pundits are convinced the Longhorns are legit, that Texas has a shot at an SEC and national championship, and the Horns are here to stay as a national power under Steve Sarkisian all thanks to a 13-3 season in which Texas played in the SEC championship game and returned to the national semifinal for the second consecutive year.

But Texas suffered major attrition this off-season.

Can Texas really reload in 2025? Has the program come that far?

Recruiting rankings suggest so, as does the proverbial eye test. Texas looks like a top 10 team.

It’s almost eerie as I talk to media members here in Atlanta this week. They expect Texas to be good in 2025. That’s so fundamentally different than a year ago when everyone was questioning whether the Longhorns even belonged the good, ol’ SEC.

**

Grayson, Ga., product Tyler Atkinson, the nation’s top-rated linebacker, will announce his decision just hours from now on the Pat McAfee Show.

Atkinson will choose between Texas, Georgia, Clemson and Ohio State.

Atkinson has totaled a whopping 475 tackles as a three-year starter in high school.

Look, there are great players in recruiting. And there are recruits who are considered great prospects. It is relatively rare when a recruit is both.

Such is the case with Atkinson. He’s a truly elite, special football player.

**

As I’ve been mentioning since last week, I expect Texas to end July with 20-21 commitments.

When I wrote that, the Horns were at 17 pledges.

They are currently at 18 following the commitment of cornerback Samari Matthews late last week.

Obviously Texas is in on both Atkinson and is perhaps the favorite for the nation’s no. 1 running Derrek Cooper, who announces his decision on Sunday.

Those two super blue chips could take Texas to 20.

**

With safety Davon Benjamin not announcing until Aug. 2, it’s natural to ask: how do I think Texas could get to 21 by the end of this month?

At this stage of recruiting and with all the chatter on various message boards trying to out a player’s name or who I’m referring to, sometimes it’s best for folks to sit back and watch. Perhaps enjoy the ride.

I’m not trying to be a tease. But sometimes patience is warranted.

He's a meathead.  The type of guy that takes small sample sizes and draws huge conclusions, and lives his life in sound bites. The kind who thinks whoever talks the loudest is the smartest.

Is it entertaining?  It can be, for a while, but he's just a meathead who surrounds himself with other meatheads.

I feel the same way.  I pay almost no attention to him outside of Gameday, but he has done a lot to help revive that show.  He and Saban have been excellent additions that had made the show much better than it was 4-5 years ago.

I do like the segment where cocky people fuck up a field goal on GameDay every week now.

My guess is jealousy from the fact that he makes millions for behaving like the average Surly poster. Just disappointed they had to settle for their fallback careers as lawyers.

It’s true. I’m really jealous I’m not an obnoxious meat head who spreads life altering rumors about 18 year old girls on my national show. It would make me feel like a big man

Man, if true... his class is going to have some high end talent.

#1 QB - Bell

Top 3 RB-  Cooper

#1 LB- Atkinson

5 star edge-  Wesley

Elite LT- Turntine.  Gerry has called him the best OL in Texas in both the 2025 and 2026 class and has said he has been the #1 OL on the Texas board.

#1 DT- James Johnson

Elite athlete/5 star caliber- Jermaine Bishop

Assuming we land the guys above, this class may not have the top to bottom depth like the 2025 class, not saying it isn't.... but.... the top end talent may be better.  That doesn't even include Benjamin, who most have pegged to Oregon.

I am ok with McAfee. He's annoying and over the top but attracts a younger demo  and brings some energy to Gameday which is important. Otherwise you just have a bunch of old dudes like Herbstreit, Des, and Saban up there.

It's almost like in your world, it's impossible to be perfectly fine with a guy who's found success in his various fields while at the same time dismissing someone personally because you find their content to be tedious and unspectacular.

Texas A&M has managed to create hundreds of thousands of alums, some of them who have money, and brainwash them into borderline tragic levels of cognitive dissonance and emotional sports suffering, all while having them say "please sir may I have another." By any measure it seems like Texas A&M is a super successful institution, and have positioned themselves brilliantly.

I suppose it goes without saying that the institution of Texas A&M demands your respect, huh?
