Was driving me nuts, so I looked it up, and yes, he was only at OU for one season. Our list of 2000 big 12 coaches was good save for Bob Simmons at Oklahoma State, Terry Allen at Kansas, and Larry Smith at Missouri.

Damn. I would have bet money on pinkel at Missouri. And I was way off on Oklahoma state. Who the fuck is/was bob simmons lol.

Well he’s old, so I’m sure they make him nervous.

Likewise with running.

We should just take a knee every time.

Anytime I get annoyed with this thread, I just think about 4-5 years ago when I would open it daily hoping for a program healing deus ex machina. Now i just smile and look at the calendar to see how many DAYS away it is until a Manning is leading our preseason #1 team to open the season.

perhaps. but what if it happened inside of a closed box?

are we flipping any 5-stars today?
Apparently not. We have not talked enough about kolaches and koblasneks and chicken fried steak.

Brisket and Leach talk making this dry dead talk.
Hear me out here. What if you took a pepperoni pizza, and put it in a klobasnik?
A Tex-Czech-Italian mutation worth considering.

First things first - We need to steal Derrek Cooper to land another dick punch to the poors in Georgia.

Is that not a calzone or a stromboli?

or a double Dave’s pizza roll?

The dough in a kolache is different. But I have an even worse confession. I had a brisket kolache. And I liked it.

It’s a relief when certain posters, especially BOW but others as well, disagree with me on here. It’s a better confirmation of how right I am than just about anything else.

what’s funny is that with a lot of posters - futureman, helobious- Im fairly confident that it’s a bit or that they’re trolling. BOW definitely likes to troll, but he’s bad enough at it that you can tell when he’s being serious. I honestly doubt that hes that big of an asshole IRL, but on here hes something special.

I would be honestly shocked if 90% of the people on this board dont remember Spike Dykes. First, because you’re all old as shit, and second, because his son is coaching at TCU.

The hilarious thing to me is at the time I thought Tech was reaching when they forced him out. Did they really think they were going to do better? He was a good coach for them.

Then they hired Mike Leach and he led them to the best years of their existence. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Mike Leach helped contribute to their current financial security when it comes to NIL, since he recruited and played both of the partners in Double Eagle. And Kingsbury is a direct lineage from Leach, who recruited and played Mahomes.

And I thought they made a mistake. Lol.

They did make a huge mistake in the way they handled the whole James situation, but that was just Texas Tech being Texas Tech. It's like the frog asking the scorpion not to sting it as he carries it across the river. They're going to do Texas Tech things.

Wasn't that the game where the pirate left a fake game plan on the field after warmups for our coaches to find?

1999. When we went down 17-0 and Major brought us back.

I am extraordinarily grateful for the current state of Texas athletics. 1984 to 1997 I wasn't sure if Texas as an institution was going to even care that much about football any more. Then Hicks and Evans got involved at the board of regents level, helped bring Mack Brown on, and I've never had to question the commitment to football since. But even then I didn't really like Dodds or Brown, although I enjoyed our successes under them. That doesn't matter. I don't have to like the people in charge as long as we're winning.

But the last two years have been ideal. On just about every level. I love our board of regents chair. I love our athletic director. Our coach feels like the right guy for the job. He's someone I'd love to sit down and have a beer with, and neither one of us drink. We're highly successful. We appear to have a plan on nearly every level. I have a huge amount of admiration for the people who took the initiative to put an NIL structure in place from the grass roots. I contributed jack squat to speak of to that effort but as a fan I've been able to reap the rewards. We need to win a title, but I feel confident that's coming. In the meantime, I have basked in our off season relevancy. We practically owned the SEC media day coverage. Even when we weren't' being talked about, it's like the people involved were going out of their way not to talk about Texas and Arch Manning because they were so sick of it.

As far as Derrick Cooper, it's the Miami fans that have been fun to watch. They're acting like they're being walked to the guillotine. Hopefully the good guys come out on top today and I get to enjoy the regional fan bases go out of their minds again at another Texas recruiting victory.

They hated that he didn't suck up and used his drinking and related habits as their behind-closed-doors way of telling themselves that they "had no choice." That is literally the language they used with one another.

I'm glad I'm not alone in not liking Mack or Dodds. I'm grateful for our '05 NC and '04 Rose Bowl win, and for Colt years, but he was so thin-skinned and such a pussy. I've finally just reached a level where I still dislike him for what he did at the end, but he's been gone for 15 years. I just don't want him around our program thinking he's some righteous deity who gets a say in anything Texas football related.

Leach was awesome. He had swagger and personality. Smarts to go with it too. Loved what he'd do to aggie. Never understood how fast he left us. I guess cancer can do that shit.

Older Horn but any of you miss the Rice band? I liked their stuff.

Agree with above posters. CDC and Sark & company are all first rate. We are Texas.

everyone misses the mob

we should have a standing 2-for-1 with them

and we should invite the mob for a halftime guest appearance with the lhb on november 29th

I mean, they're still there. I'm sure we'll play them again at some point. But in the context of your post, they sure got under the Aggie's skin. There was a time before premium seating meant visitor allotments were reduced and bands were put in the worst seats, the opposing team always brought their band to away games. Especially in state opponents. The way the Rice band would tweak the Aggies at Kyle Field was something else. Of course, they'd do the same to us, but we always thought it was a riot.

It wasn't the band, but a couple of years ago I went to a volleyball game at Tudor Fieldhouse when Texas came to play for a preseason exhibition game, and the Rice student body (plus their smaller band that plays at the Fieldhouse) came out in force. At one point they all started chanting "safe-ty schoo-ool" over and over again, and you just had to laugh. I love Rice.

Well, I'm always a curious man and since this thread is already de-railed I figure I'd throw some gas on this dumpster fire of a page.

Apparently one already exists. I have zero clue what Exit 14 market is... and I could do some research but I'm lazy so here ya go:

Well, I lied. It's some place in Kansas apparently.

Well, man, I haven't been there in years. But.. is it a pizza kolache or just a kolache with pepperoni? I mean, details matter, and I'm always game for a semantics argument.

I would order many of those @BurntEyes.

Now if any of you Longhorns can point me to a decent chicken fried steak place in or close to Smyrna, GA (just West of ATL proper) with white gravy. Grateful. Yep, thread derailed but aren't we all just waiting on Cooper?

Dude, thank you for this. The other day I mentioned to my wife that I wanted to find a place that did beef stromboli because I was nostalgic about this place we went to on South Lamar in high school for discount buffet, but I couldn't remember the name of it. It was one of those stories that starts off somewhere then quickly trails off and makes her question my mental health (and therefore warranting the senility checks). Trying to remember the name of the place has been bothering me ever since.

It was Double Dave's. This is like finally getting a popcorn kernel dislodged from my teeth.

Double Dave Pepperoni Rolls, cheap pitchers of beer and Techmo Bowl... what dreams are made of. I think it was Tuesday that they had $5 pitchers and $1 rolls. $15 was a big expense, but MAN... so worth it.

Don't remember one on 19th (renamed MLK in 1975), but I was late 70s.  Luigi's which resembles that description was at 21st and Guad (near the Blimpie's).  There was a Pizza Hut on the south side of MLK near Guad and a Mr. Gatti's also on south side closer to San Antonio, fwiw.
