anything from 8-4 to undefeated is possible, 10-2 looks likely and that puts riley the slut back on the front burner

zero trap games

last trip east october 18th

quite frankly if riley can't win 10 with this schedule he should retire

Illinois is going to open the season ranked much higher than USC. The Illini return a seasoned and solid QB and a lot of talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Riley teams play soft on the road. Illinois is likely to beat the absolute dogshit out of those frauds.

A standalone condom? That sounds like something an A&M engineering post-doc might invent.

I can't be held accountable for the stupid people.

That’s a pretty fast backtrack from your boastful claim. There are tens of thousands of students with very good grades and scores who can’t get into Texas. If your boastful claim was going to be schools like Rice, then that’s obviously nonsense. You go ahead and define reasonable acceptance rate to whatever standard you like. Go ahead and rattle off all those superior choices you had teed up in your frontal lobe. We are waiting with anticipation for your wise words.

I think you have missed the point in all of this. I know many intelligent kids can't get into Texas. I also know that most people don't budget/save/plan very well, and they have kids with no thought on providing an education for them, so many solid options are off the table. I also know there are some not so bright kids who don't have any shot of getting into a US News top 50 or top 100 school. I acknowlegde all of that.

What irks me are people, whether it is on this board or in real life, who have kids at piss poor academic institutions like Arkansas, OU or Okie Lite, and try to make themselves feel better by hyping them up as the next tier of public ivies. That was the genesis of this tangent.

If I had a kid who couldn't get into Texas but was still pretty bright, OU wouldn't even be on my radar. FSU, #54 in US News, is a far superior academic institution, and is the same cost (if not cheaper) than OU. Hell, USF is an AAU university and in the top 100, and it is much cheaper than OU. If your kid can't get in to USF, you did something wrong as a parent.

I’ve advocated for vocational school to become a plumber or carpenter or something of that ilk, then an apprenticeship and then we’d help the kid get a franchise or hang a shingle. I dealt with franchisees for a few of the national electrician, HVAC and plumbing brands. Many of them were self-made millionaires.

I bring it up to my kids in front of my wife every now and then because she loses it and the kids all crack up. I can’t say it’s a path that apparently my kids may be going on, but I don’t think anyone is a dummy for taking that route. I honestly think that is a better choice than getting a sociology degree from Arkansas or Auburn or any degree whatsoever from LSU.

100% agree. That said, as ROI on 4+ year degrees is diminishing a lot of people share this thinking and I’ve read the trades are starting to become over saturated. How long until that becomes a barrier to the big money jobs is beyond me.

At Illinois is likely not a given for them.

Quite a bit of money to be made here. Especially in the senior market.

So basically you’re full of shit. Neither of those schools has any proximity to the state of Texas, and even if you ignore that the best you could come up with was USF and FSU?  Bawwwaaaa!!

The UTD recommendation mentioned earlier wasn’t bad, but they have limited quality degree options. You’re living in the 1990’s dude. Wake up.

I had no idea proximity mattered. That was 2 examples just off the top of my head. FYI - it isn't hard to find better academic options that OU and Arkansas. Be honest, do you have a loser kid at one of those schools?

You had no idea because you are dumber than any of the students at the schools you criticize. It’s completely obvious to anyone that for many families some sort of proximity to their home state is an important criteria. The fact you don’t even understand that basic fact further highlights you are a dim bulb.

Given that I sat on the Advisory Board of UTD for several years, I had the opportunity to see a comprehensive competitive analysis of not only all the schools in Texas, but also border state schools, and the California college system.

The real story here is that a college education in the state of Texas has many challenges as compared to a state like California, which literally has more than a dozen high quality schools for students who couldn’t get into UCLA or USC. As a result, quality Texas students who want a typical college experience have to look outside the borders of the State. Now run along Junior now that you’ve been completely embarrassed. And fuck off

Yep, you've got a kid at OU or Arkansas. No doubt.

Make straight A's and get a high test score. After you get out of college it's who you are that matters. There is not much evidence that where you went to school makes you successful. There are a ton of rich college dropouts.

The “Dirty Jobs” guy has been ranting about a shortfall in the trades on a massive level coming up. I’m not fact-checking either of you, but he’s known as an expect.

Illinois finishing #4 in the B10 would not surprise me

Depends on the trade, I suppose. I ended up deciding to skip college 20 years ago because I was lucky enough to get into a fast growing, high(er) paying field right out of high school, before said field started wanting a college degree.

Since this is the recruiting thread, I'd recommend learning how to be 6'5 and 300+ pounds. Running a 4.3 40 is also recommended.

Trades are wide open and hardly oversaturated. There is about to be a whole lot of workers potentially retiring or dying in the trades which will open up more. automation, data centers, ai centers, and many other commercial and industrial facilities need trades regardless of work force being humans or robots.

Yeah they will be the last to get taken over by AI. Low level office workers are what's getting hit right now. Love Mike Rowe.

AI is already heavily involved in the trades.

And if you’re 6’5” and run a 4.3 40? You can name your price. That’s what I advise everyone to do.

When I saw all these new posts after a day of traveling to Chicago and seeing family I was hoping for fireworks... Arkansas vs UH vs UTD vs trade school academic smack talk is certainly new.

Ignore any recruiting talk for a while. It's all pretty much done and the relevant talk will be about the season. I believe the team starts fall camp Wednesday. All the goobers here will just be saying stupid shit that doesn't pertain to anything important

Way to Sydney up your post.

Proximity to your kid doesn’t somehow make the college less shitty. No one in reality would/should defend aTm or Tech simply because they’re closer than a school like Arkansas or LSU. The ratings speak for themselves. And those schools fucking suck.

I’ve advocated to my wife for the trade route for our kid and she also loses her fucking mind. AC techs can make a fucking mint.

Sure they can. People lose sensitivity to price in July and August, when the AC is out.

College, namely a 4-year degree from an accredited institution, is required for some career paths and helpful for others. For some, it is an unnecessary and irrecoverable waste of 4 years of one's life and the cause of a serious financial burden. If one does not know what he wants to do in life but is pretty sure he wants it to be at a desk in someone else's employ, a solid degree is a wise starting point. If he does not know at all what he wants, he should just work for a few years and get an idea before spending 6 figures worth of his or someone else's money on something that may be useless. Our society has grown to treat college as de rigeur 13th grade.
