Apologies to the assholes in here but there isn't anything more worthless or destructive to society than an MBA so I would say you might as well go to Arkansas then except you'd be wasting your money cause those are the only worthless fucks who give a shit where you went to school anymore.

Here's my thing. Other than OU, and maybe A&M, we're constantly eliciting a stronger reaction from other fan bases than we reciprocate. And even A&M for many of us it's tough to take them seriously as a rivalry.

If I could choose one program to make really hate us and circle us on the calendar every year, it would be Alabama, because they're Alabama. But the truth is Alabama is the Texas of the SEC. Everyone hates their guts. Everyone thinks of them as their biggest rival at different times. Alabama only has so much bandwidth for rivalries. Also, Alabama is in a transition where they're scared to death they're going back to the Perkins/Curry/Dubose/Franchione/Price (hahahaha!)/Shula era, with a little Stallings sprinkled in, who resigned under some pressure. They are in a bit of a confidence crisis at the moment. They're also concerned they don't have the juice to compete with the Texas' of the world in terms of NIL.

Georgia has a bit of A&M in them in the sense they don't have a history of being top dog. They're the flagship program in their state, but they've never been top dog in the SEC until recently. They want the last 5 years to go on forever, and here Texas is coming in interrupting things.

When I compare it to Nebraska, I think of how Texas fans didn't really get how much Nebraska fans hate us. I think most of us on this board do, because we're message board junkies and so we've seen it over the years. But the average Nebraska fan is well aware of how much they collectively hate Texas. Even people who were too young to be Nebraska fans when the two programs played in the 2000s. It's passed down generationally, to the extent Texas is completely and utterly blamed for their downfall. Something similar is true for Arkansas. We collectively don't really care about Arkansas. They're not really on our radar. Whatever "rivalry" there is, is mostly because it's shoved down our throats that there's a rivalry there, so we kind of shrug our shoulders and go, "okay, I guess there's a rivalry." Arkansas fans don't have to do that. They know their hate for Texas is in their DNA, passed down through the womb from one generation to the next. We just don't get that intensity.

Is that possible with Georgia? I don't know. I hope so. I hope Texas puts together a string of wins against Georgia. I hope they have a bit of a downturn in overall talent, and that talent dropoff is blamed solely on Texas. At the end of the day as long as they have Kirby Smart and Smart is dialed in as far as being a college head football coach, I feel like they're going to be fine. He's going to figure out a way to win because that's how he's built, regardless of whatever limitations are put on him. But he's not going to be able to win the same way he did the last 5 years. It's a lot more expensive now, and it's uncertain whether Georgia has the overall resources necessary. You can tell he's angry about that, and the Georgia fans and talking heads are responding in kind. And for Smart and therefore the Georgia nation the boogeyman is Texas.

I just know having Georgia hate us is waaaaaaaay more fun than having Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, and the other little sisters of the poor in the Big 12 hate us. They have a bigger fan base, it's way more passionate and active, they're the flagship school of their state with a lot of resources at their disposal, and they have a lot of recent success. But I view them much the way I viewed Nebraska. It's hilarious to watch them hate us, but I don't think I reciprocate the hate. I just find it all very amusing.

I'll also say if you haven't spent time in Georgia, it's easy to underestimate how rural that state really is. There's a reason people from the capital say, "Oh, I'm not from Georgia. I'm from Atlanta." There can be a big difference. I'm with you on the trailer trash part. But that's the SEC for you for the most part.

I spent two weeks in Georgia before I got out and haven’t been back since.

If you guys want new stuff, just ask @texifornia to change the title again. It's like opening Pandora's Box - it will change things, just no idea whether for the better or for the worse. But sure, roll the dice.

Here's Gerry's view on who can finish with the #1 class and how. Personally, I think excluding Oregon or Michigan is dicey. Either one could go on a feeding frenzy and imbalance the whole thing.

As far as I know, Hiter is expected to land at OSU. Georgia does not feel bullish. On Anthony Jones, Bama seems to think they lead, last time I looked.

Race for the No. 1 recruiting class in 2026

The Texas Longhorns are squarely in the mix for the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle after a very strong last half of July.

When looking at the teams that are truly in the hunt for the top ranked class, there six teams with a realistic shot.

Those schools are Georgia, USC, Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas and Ohio State. Notre Dame is currently a top 5 level class, but doesn't have the runway to be in the mix for the No. 1 class as it stands today.

While Georgia and USC have the top classes currently, they both have at least 30 commitments and don't have as long of a potential runway as Texas, Ohio State and Alabama. Texas A&M has 27 commitments, and would have to domino on a couple of top remaining targets to stay in the race.

There are several factors that will play into which team finishes No. 1:
Final prospect rankings after senior season: mid-January of 2026
Size of the class
The different class ranking calculations within the industry

Team-by-team look at the contenders ...

Also, on Kreul, the Sooners Illustrated gurus are now telling their audience that it feels like Texas is making a push for Kreul and, all things equal, it looks like he'd prefer Texas. Take that FWIW, as I do not think they have decent connections to the Texas side. Their providing that update based on what the Kreul camp is saying and what their OU staff connections are now whining about to them.

I'm high on Kruel. And Id love to have him.

All right, just hear me out. I have what is likely a stupid idea, but this is Surly.

I wonder if Kruel is closer to his physical potential than most HS recruits.

Meaning not much ceiling for his currently intended position.

But what if we could convert him into a short yardage specialist?

He’s got the size and coordination.

Maybe it’s just the red-zone-PTSD talking.

Why? The roster is now set at 105 scholarships, using NIL funds to pay for blue shirts has to be a negligent use of funds.

Kruel looks to have really good get off, but his body composition is a real departure from what Texas seems to like on the outside.  Would help the recruiting rankings and cause some ou heartburn, but probably goes the way of 2024 Justice Finkley on the field for the foreseeable future.  That EDGE room is salty right now.

I don’t think that’s a thing anymore. If there are no walk ons and everyone has to be on a scholarship, how are there grey shirts or blue shirts or whatever?

Georgia is also pioneering the "orange shirt" program where they open up roster space by having players do a semester at the county jail

Finkley wasn't particularly athletic for being so undersized. He also didn't have the tools to mitigate that. All motor.

Kruel is explosive and athletic. Not as athletic as Bryce Perry Wright, but up there. He's probably smaller than BPW though, hence the pass rush specialist label.

Not sure how tall Kruel is, but I would have guessed Finkley to be around 6'1 when I saw him.

If we don't land him there's always the imitation brand as a backup

They list Kruel at 6’1 230 - so somewhere between 5’10 and 6’1.  Not saying it won’t work, only that his athleticism would have to be elite to play with a hand down, even as a DPR (I really hate that coneptually, for whatever that’s worth).

Kruel's X account lists him at 6'3", 240 .lbs.  There's a photo of him standing next to a 6'2" recruit and he looks to be taller.

2026 tight end Keawe Browne has officially re-opened his recruitment, moving on from a silent commitment to Texas.

Sources told Inside Texas that Browne had a great official visit earlier this summer and was trending toward a possible commitment. Predictions were in place for Texas, but Browne never went public with his decision. The Longhorns asked him to postpone an announcement while they sorted out roster numbers for the 2026 class and navigated NIL structures.

I’m good with it. He’s probably an annoying 3 year starter at OU, we’ll see at Texas. Maybe they think he’s the next Trey Moore. End of the day, with 105 scholarships might as well mess with OU when convenient.
