I can see a world where Venables goes and throws a bitch fit in Nagy's office about not getting him elite talent and Nagy deciding to dive back into this recruitment.

I think at this point I'm cheering for OU to spend a fuck ton of money to get the tweener.

I would love it if this happened. He would be walking into Red River with a tweener and a homeschooler on the edge.

Looks like OU went in with something crazy. Guys on Sooners Illustrated who seem to know some things believe that Nagy decided that he's a "must-have" and couldn't concede him to Texas.

I know I would have liked to have gotten him for multiple reasons, same as many others here, but this is one situation where it is both a certainty that OU is spending money they don't really have, so that's going to impact their roster and recruiting elsewhere, and they're also dramatically overpaying for what the player is really worth.

I'd say good luck to the guy, but if he's going to OU, fuck him. And fuck OU too.

Another thing I think this does is make Texas more willing to flip Henderson later. I'm sure they'll keep looking for a good answer that doesn't involve doing something crazy for Henderson, but I do think it opens up some room to get stupid if they wanted to with the flip.

Sounds like our late push is making OU expend valuable cap room to secure a guy that probably wouldn't make the 2 deep for us for a couple of years.  I'm fine with that

I recall one of the ou podcasts discussing his recruitment stated that Nagy had him evaluated as “5 star” talent so this would track as an ou must have.

Also, from the sound of some of the reports coming out of practice, we may already have this guy on the roster in Brad Spence.

He is going to be asked to do too much for the OU defense, and that is to play the role of savior. This means he won't get the time to develop, which means Venables will break him in his first fall camp. Poor guy.

To be fair, sounds like Venables breaks everyone in fall camp based on the injury reports

I hope he’s just as productive as the rest of their “5 star” high school recruits.

I mean, we don't know what the scheme is going to be when he gets to Norman, nor who will be running it.

And then we circle back to him a year from now after he develops some and realizes he’s in Norman.

What the fuck is wrong with Venables legs/pants there? Dude looks like he's wearing knee pads and thigh pads. Dipshit having problems running into corners and walls?

Someone hasn’t spent hours on their knees sucking dick and it shows.

Texas is gonna beat ou like a piñata for the for the foreseeable future.  Where Kreul ends up won’t have bearing on that immutable truth.  Buuuut, if he decides ou, the laws of the Universe dictate that he’ll be a pesky lil shit and have good games against Texas for the next few years.  Three sacks, a fumble recovery and fourteen “Horns down” in a 38-17 loss type shit.

It's a creepy looking picture for sure.

And to answer your question, I'm gonna go with "yes".

I’m choosing to believe the last few weeks of hyping Kreul up as a priority target was a deliberate move by the staff to get OU to overpay for him.

Comically relevant to the Kreul discussion with OU.

They've been recruiting WR Davion Groce for this entire cycle. They've been up against Baylor and, to a lesser extent, UF the whole time. Groce's camp recently indicated in the last month that they were likely picking OU over Baylor, despite BU putting a good offer together. The player announces tonight and OU has considered him in the bag for a while.

Update today is that Florida has come in off of the top ropes with a big time offer. Groce's camp has allegedly given OU this afternoon to match or beat.

Remember that part about OU coming in with something crazy for Kreul? Well, that was done when they thought they had Groce locked up at a different number. I'm guessing they're going to have to pass on one or the other. If they pony up for both, I assume that is going to lead to some serious retention issues with the portal if they're not prepared to pony up around the table for experience already on the roster at Edge and WR.

Watching OU get put in Sophie's choice after Sophie's choice is only going to get more entertaining.

While looking through OU’s commit list, I can’t decide if they need Groce or Kreul worse. I guess Kreul to push them up in the class rankings/generate false momentum.

Interesting that despite that pretty lofty ranking (47th nationally in the composite and 83rd in the Top 247), neither UT nor LSU even offered and I don't remember seeing him mentioned anywhere in our recruiting stuff. I also don't recall hearing about A&M recruiting him at all either even though his list says they "offered." It's probably not a good sign for OU if they're having to overpay for this guy. Hopefully, it's another Taylor Tatum/Jackson Arnold/Zion Kearney (soon to include Bowe Bentley?) type of situation. I'm always happy to see OU pay out the nose for players like that with their adorable little budget

Cross-posting from the OU recruiting thread. My OU buddy (yes, I have one) was explaining why this dude was so important, despite his choosing between OU, Houston, Baylor and UF. Aaaaand they lost him. Hilarious. 😂

Based on the 247Sports Composite, Kreul would become the Sooners' highest-rated commit from the 2026 class. However, he recently took a tumble in Rivals' rankings, so according to that list, Kreul wouldn't even be OU's top defensive end behind Daniel Norman.

"The Pat McAfee Show" starts at 11 a.m. CT and ends at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN. A specific time for Kreul's announcement hasn't been announced yet.

Burton confirmed this morning what we’ve discussed here about OU raising the ante on Kreul to a level Texas found uninteresting. He’s providing the view from inside the staff’s perspective, so I always like to see confirmation.

He also said they’re keeping their powder dry for a bigger fish at Edge if they get the opening they’re hoping for during the season.

My view is they should just wait for LSU to make a fool of itself as usual in Week 1 and then make the big offer to Henderson.

To be honest, and this is not sour grapes, but I wasn't super interested in the kid. He's maxed out and has the douchey blowu vibe about him. We can do better.

I just like that Sooner fans have to live with the knowledge that they are only getting our sloppy seconds.

Same.  The only value to landing him would have been Sooner tears.  He's a tweener and the next 6'3" white DE to be a real player at this level might be the first.

He'll fit right in with Venables and the folks in Norman. While it would have been nice to get him only for the schadenfreude, it will be more fun to root against someone with that face. I don't think I would have enjoyed cheering for him.

They were really talking up Clemson yesterday on Hester and Manuel. #2 game of the weekend, what a great week 1 slate of games. I am really leaning towards Clemson rolling them.

Watching his highlights, the kid is a legit pass-rushing animal. His first step is elite, and he stays low. He has pass-rush moves that most kids his age don’t have. He uses his hands well and dips his shoulders to avoid contact. He’s going to be a problem for any OL to try to get his hands on.

He’s a situational player, though. He won’t be able to hold up against the run if you run right at him. But I don’t want to dismiss it as though I don’t care that he’s going to those mouth-breathers. He’ll be a pain in the ass. I just appreciate the staff making wise financial decisions and not over-spending. Hopefully it results in landing a bigger fish down the road.

That was my take away from watching his film as well. He's very, very advanced for his age. Any time you see an undersized guy with excellent technique, you're going to wonder about the ceiling. He's got to grow and maintain explosiveness to be anything more than a situational player.

Yup. Having advanced technique just means he has an advantage over peers his age. Do you think they're going to drop an undersized edge on Trevor Goosby types and his pass rush moves will be a never before seen mystery? I think not.

It’s not the mystery that’s the problem. It’s the issue of physical limitations. It’s hard for a 6’7” dude to stay in front of a guy moving that fast, that low to the ground, without holding. It can be done, but it’s neither fun nor easy, and it takes exceptional talent that most big guys don’t possess. It’s stressful.

The answer, of course, is to do what the Eagles do to Micah Parsons. Bury his ass.

I will think about it more as that weekend approaches, so maybe I change my opinion by game time, but right now, I'm assuming Clemson is going to beat LSU like a borrowed mule. I have no faith in Kelly, or LSU for that matter, in an opener like this. They've done nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt. LSU is rebuilding their entire OL against what will be a top 5 national front in Clemson. Nussmeier has gathered more hype for someone who's done little to merit it than anyone since Spencer Rattler. "Did you see that 10 yard dig!?! What a throw!! Legend!!"

They've frankensteined their defense with hopeful starting additions at DT, Edge, Safety and CB. I know Harold Perkins is hell on wheels against Arkansas, but I have a hard time assuming he's going to be a force in this game. Weeks is awesome, but he's one guy. McKinley might be on the verge of becoming a stud, we'll see. They've got pieces, but it's all been sewn together rather quickly if it's to be an asset against an explosive offense in Game One.

Kreul reminds me of highly touted recruits coming out of some of the well-moneyed football factories in Texas. They look great on film, but how much more room do they have to develop? If he's maxed out as a freshman, he can still be an asset. Unless he has more room to grow, however, it seems like his upside is 5 sacks a season in overwhelming passing situations. I'd take that, but I don't have to have it. Nagy deciding that OU absolutely had to have him just illustrates the gap in the two programs right now.

Also, something I hadn't really thought through until now is that Nagy is going to cram this guy down Venables' throat. We think he's a DPR on the Texas roster. Nagy is telling everyone he's a 5 star. Anyone think that that loudmouth is going to be fine watching his prized evaluation sit on the sidelines until 3rd down all season? Seems unlikely. "He'll be fine against the run. Get him out there. We're not paying him a million dollars this year to only be out there for 20 snaps a game." As a freshman.

Oh please, they probably won't have the money to keep him.  He'll go back home to Florida after a shit OU season
