LSU DC is interviewing today with Tulane. Seeing some buzz he is probably the favorite for the job and they might move quick to lock him down. Would certainly go a long way towards helping us flip that five star DT if something happens fast enough. In the very least have to think it might cause some of their defensive recruits to not sign right away on Wednesday.

He's already reaffirmed his commitment to LSU. I don't think the DC leaving a sinking ship is going to change his mind after the HC was fired. Maybe we money-whip him and get back into it

My understanding is that he did that after getting assurances Baker was still going to be there under the new coach. If Baker is now leaving to take over Tulane..  might open the door again. You are probably right though that he just sticks with them and whatever financial agreement they already have in place. Either way it is good news for us because Baker is an excellent DC and almost certainly much better than anyone Kiffin will find to replace him.

Eric Nahlin: Steve Sarkisian and Texas football need a December to remember

Quote

“Championships are won in the offseason” used to mean team preparation more than anything else. Now, in the transfer portal era, it means roster management on top of team preparedness. By far the most important bloc of the Texas offseason is the next six weeks. Despite the portal not opening officially until January 2, make no mistake—the portal is already front and center.

We’ll have a ton of content this week regarding National Signing Day. Other than keeping players committed, it’s largely meaningless for next fall. Texas must be all-in on the 2026 season. Resources must be allocated to those who can help immediately. The 2027 season, with a new starting quarterback, can be more of a rebuild. Reading the board over the last day or two, it’s clear some still have not adjusted to the economic realities of college football. Expecting five-star flips and a large reboot through the portal is simply not realistic. The portal is way more important and very costly in its own right.

“How do other schools do it?” Every school has its own considerations. Georgia or Ohio State won’t have Texas’ portal needs. Hopefully that clears that up.

I know many fans are curious about what changes Steve Sarkisian will make, if any, to his coaching staff. That is certainly important, but still secondary to roster management—keep in mind, we do not expect Duane Akina back. Kyle Flood’s status is a bit more uncertain after the O-line improved throughout the season. Everyone should know where I stand on that, but I don’t make the decisions. Sark has trusted his gut on coaches on the hot seat before, and it’s paid off. If Flood comes back, hopefully a laser focus on righting wrongs is “good enough” for Arch Manning’s final season.

On Sark’s plate for December is high school recruiting, a coaching audit, roster management (including tough conversations with his own players), and bowl preparation. I would be absolutely shocked if Texas snuck into the playoffs. With that said, I still want that 10th win, even if it’s in the Citrus Bowl. What a statement that would be for Sark—our “down year” still includes 10 wins with three of them over Texas’ historic rivals.

There is plenty more on his offseason punch list, but those four aspects take precedence in December. I remember a few Decembers ago when I had to write about there being nothing to write about. The only storyline was pretty much whether or not Derek Williams would flip, and we knew he wouldn’t.

This year there is a ton to cover because there is a ton for Sark to do. That’s what happens when you lose the offseason. Just as easy as you can lose an offseason, you can win it at Texas. Defining success for the month is a bit difficult right now, but we’ll know it when we see it. A good start would be: address the portal needs, make any coaching moves that serve the program’s best interest, and retain a stud or two.

I wonder if Clark will portal? We already lost Gibson and Stewart, Jr (mysteriously), but we still have Wisner, Baxter, Simon, Cooper coming in, and we'll probably go out for a an elite RB. I don't personally care if stays or goes, as he's the weak link in the room of young guys. Scott needs to unfuck his face and fucking do something. He's shown absolutely nothing so far. He got us Cooper wirh money, but he clearly didn't help the younger guys in the room learn their gap schemes, blocking, pass blocking, whatever to move up the depth chart. Choice fucked us in recruiting with Gibson, Stewart, and Clark. Three RBs that aren't here or aren't learning the schemes. Which gap to hit, etc and so forth.

Justin Wells on Corey Wells:

Auburn is working overtime to try and flip both Corey Wells and his brother, 2026 linebacker Chris Wells (three-star South Alabama commit). While Texas has not offered Chris, he does have a spot at Texas waiting for him and some offsets the blur lines between walk-on and scholarship player.

Texas has a good chance to hold on but we're watching what happens with Auburn's defensive coordinator. If Alex Golesh retains DJ Durkin at defensive coordinator the road gets a little more difficult as Durkin has a solid relationship in place.

With the expectation of losing Vodney Cleveland, Texas is working overtime to keep the highly talented 6-foot-5, 330 pounds Wells. He possesses significant upside at a position that is always a need.

Michael Dell just donated 6.25 billion to children’s investment accounts. He’s never going to give money to UT athletics.

Dude gives me the impression of the kinda guy who got stuffed into a locker or 2 by football players. Doubt that'll translate to giving to the football program

Better for another thread, but it would be funny if Dell’s terms included keeping the $1k in Dell stock until the recipient reaches adulthood.

Back to recruiting, it seems like they aren’t trying to keep Vodney Cleveland very hard.  That or his representation is angling for more of a financial commitment from Texas.  “No, really, Vodney is really looking UNC, he’s headed there I swear.”

Tuesday - Bobby

All recruiting related, today.

Tuesday

By Bobby Burton

We’re less than 24 hours from National Signing Day.

Texas currently sits at 24 commitments. Defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland is the only pledge who appears poised to choose elsewhere (North Carolina).

Meanwhile, Texas is looking to add an elite player or two.

The three who appear remaining on the board are OL Brysten Martinez of Honzales, La., OL Malakai Lee of Honolulu, Haw., and DB Toray Davis of Boulder, Colo.

Martinez and Lee are currently committed elsewhere, LSU and Michigan, respectively. Davis is expected to come down to Texas and Washington.

**

Offensive linemen don’t have many stats, so I’ll give you those of Davis.

His production this year has been nothing short of phenomenal.

As a WR, he had 70 receptions for 1,557 yards and 16 TDs. As an RB, he rushed for 535 yards and a whopping 23 TDs, while average more than 8.5 yards per carry.

That’s a total of 39 touchdowns as a senior.

On defense, he added six interceptions which gives him 14 in his high school career.

**

And how’s this for production?

Jermaine Bishop of Willis has 108 receptions this year for more than 1,700 yards. And his team is still alive in the playoffs.

**

Sometimes a team will take prospects who have high ceilings but not a ton of production. That’s not the case with Texas this year.

Almost every one of them - at least the ones who had a fully healthy senior year - have produced at a high level.

**

As it relates to production and health, only three recruits missed significant action as seniors in high school: QB Dia Bell, WR Chris Stewart and DL James Johnson.

Other commitments may have been dinged up from time to time but they did not miss significant action or finish the season injured to our knowledge.

Of the injuries, the most concerning one for me is Bell. And it’s not because of the actual type of injury itself. It’s the reps he missed that are so important. At the QB position, even in high school, it can take extra time to catch back up.

May not be anything to it, but chatter on Tigerdroppings is Anderson isn't signing tomorrow with the talk of Baker possibly going to Tulane and DL coach Kyle Williams possibly not returning.  Some Martinez talk as well on possibly flipping.

Vandy flipping a 5 Star Quarterback from Georgia. The game really has changed.

Yes, if we could just get ordinary Americans to fall in Love with the Stock Market... Just like they all did in the 1920's... Then that'd be great... /s

The playing field has been leveled.  Vandy sees what is happening in Austin and was Coach Lea has accomplished and decided why not us?  They've got basketball competing and baseball is a perennial contender.  This is the premier league and it is time for every program to act like it.

Vandy baseball is likely going to come back to the pack a lot. They were playing lose with the academic financial aid given to baseball players when they started their upward trajectory. Now that NIL exists, their "advantages" have been taken away.

Adding Anderson would bump us to #4 and Martinez would bump us to #2 and over 300 which has historically guaranteed a top 3 class.

The tigerdropping talk suggests Baker is gone.

Why does LSU hate life?

I’m sure Golesh probably wants to show Durkin the door. There was a faction of Auburn boosters that wanted to elevate Durkin to HC and at a place like Auburn you don’t want a rival for power on your own staff.

It was the AD that wanted to elevate Durkin while he mucked up locking down Sumrall because he wanted Durkin as HC so badly, boosters overruled him and the "compromise" seems to be keeping him as DC

Well that and the fact that a player died under Durkin’s watch.

Honestly, I really thought we would be in a battle for Atkinson and Cooper until signing day, but they've been quiet and fully committed, which is awesome.

Tuesday Recruiting: Latest on targets and commits (2:10pm CT)

By Gerry Hamilton

I'm just going to run down the latest on several prospects.

5-star Richard Anderson, DL, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr - The future of Frank Wilson on Lane Kiffin's staff looms large here. Anderson is not planning to sign Wednesday, per a source close to the recruitment. His mom still wants him at LSU, but Frank Wilson does loom large. Texas has spoken with the 6-foot-3, 350-pounder and his high school coach today.

4-star+ Brysten Martinez, OT, Gonzales (La.) East Ascension - the 6-foot-6, 307-pound LSU plege has not informed the Texas staff of a final decision, as of 1:30 pm today. And the staff has spoken with Martinez within the last few hours.

4-star++ Malakai Lee, OT, Honolulu (Hi.) Kamehameha - same as Martinez, the 6-foot-6.5, 320-pound Michigan commit has not informed Texas of a final decision. And the discussions continue.

4-star+ Vodney Cleveland, DL, Birmingham (Ala.) Parker - OTF still feels like UNC has the best chance to sign Cleveland as of lunch time.

4-star Corey Wells, DL, Petal (Miss.) High - Auburn under new HC Alex Golseh is trying to make one last push to flip the 6-foot-5, 300-pounder with a high ceiling.

Texas is also still talking to two other prospects committed elsewhere. We aren't hearing about any major movement - yet.

Apologies if already discussed, but has tiger droppings indicated whether Kiffin is planning on retaining Cortez Hankton?  I saw he was bringing his WR coach from Oxford.  Kids and parents really gravitate towards Hank, it’d be a big loss for them in recruiting and a big win for any school that wants to recruit Southern Louisiana and I-10 Houston to the Triangle.

The palace intrigue at Auburn is ridiculous. All these redneck millionaires who think they're Machiavelli.

Edit: And it looks like Durkin is staying at Auburn -
