They can release him or he can leave in the portal window.  Doesn't really matter which as he can leave if he wants to.

Their twitter literally posted Lee’s announcement tweet as this news came out. Beautiful timing.

Isn't he allowed out of his NLI if the coach leaves or is fired for nookie?

I'm sure they'll let players out of NLI's if they want but they can also just enter the portal when it opens and be at their new school by the start of the semester anyways

what a time to be alive.

I wonder if we let Max Wright loose thinking this would go public soon enough to scoop up Lee before signing day?

Also, are we satisfied with DB recruiting or do we circle back on Jamarion Vincent as well?

Did any of these guys really commit to UM because of Sherrone Moore? Their NIL is prob already locked in regardless.

Damnit. Good point.

I don't know isn't he a pretty good o-line coach? Entirely probable the linemen did....if the above hypith3sis was correct, no one would leave during a coaching change.

wish that I thought highly enough of our staff to believe they were playing 4-D chess with Michigan head-to-heads.

It's not just NIL or Moore or the fancy helmets. That program could be an absolute shit show next season. You have no idea what kind of coaching staff will be there, what they will value in players, what they will emphasize, etc. There may have been informal commitments about playing time, development, and other opportunities. The AD is probably getting the axe too, which just amplifies the potential issues.

Not saying you're necessarily wrong, but let's not discount the FUD that has to be setting in for Michigan's 2026 class. If there are any cracks, this is an opportunity to split them wide open.

Good point; however, when back to back coaches are embroiled in serious scandals, there’s probably some deeper rot going on there.

If you were a freshman or sophomore during their national championship season, you have seen some shit go down at the program.

UMich's journalists are pretty much confirming this - long running issues and a culture of defensiveness and silence going back years.

Gorney Four-star OL Malakai Lee digesting shocking Sherrone Moore news

Quote

Malakai Lee’s father, Keola, heard the shocking news about former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday and was headed home from work to talk things over with his son.
The massive four-star offensive tackle from Honolulu (Hawaii) Kamehameha committed to the Wolverines in June over Alabama, Texas and others and signed last week but now the family has to figure out if changes are coming after Moore’s arrest and dismissal.
“Like I told my wife, I want to sit down with him and get a feel for what he’s thinking,” Keola Lee said.
“He just got off a loss in the state championship and he has a finals test and then this, wow, that’s heavy.
“I’m just telling my son nobody is perfect and these things that he’s going through are valleys. I tell him there’s a great lesson that you’re going to learn through all this in his life.
“Just trying to feel him out like that and temperature. Nothing like jumping to another school, we haven’t had that conversation, or how does he feel waiting it out.”
Moore’s involvement was “big-time” in getting Lee to commit to Michigan as the family absolutely loved that he was the only head coach who trekked to Hawaii to recruit the four-star offensive tackle.
Lee also really liked that Moore was an offensive lineman and offensive line coach himself.
“He was the only head coach that came out to Hawaii to visit him,” Keola Lee said. “We always said that out of all the head coaches he was the only one who came and he is an o-linemen.
“Although he’s the head coach, he’s always going to have the best interest of the o-line and have eyes on them and so those are some of the things we talked about with Malakai and he shared with us.”
The Moore news was shocking. A few days ago, Lee also had to swallow the news that offensive line analyst Juan Castillo was leaving the Wolverines for Syracuse. Lee and Castillo had developed a strong bond through the recruiting process.
As of now, nothing has changed in Lee’s recruitment but the family is going to have a sit-down and see how things play out.
“A big blow was the day he signed, maybe a couple hours later, we found out Juan Castillo got the o-line job at Syracuse,” Keola Lee said. “That was a big one because Malakai jelled with him, too, and he’s a veteran guy.
“They went to the Ohio State game and they were talking to him and Malakai said he felt good about this and then he left.
“I’m telling my son, you have to get numb to this kind of stuff. It’s a business and people move on and you just have to dig deep, put your head down and keep working.”

I'm sure Moore was quite happy to take a vacation to Hawaii with his assistant gf to recruit Lee.

Assume news about Moore taking that chick to Hawaii will be breaking any minute now.

I'm shocked that Michigan kept that under wraps.  Total oversight I'm sure.  Nothing underhanded at all.  🤦‍♂️

If Lee and family are doing their homework on the offensive line coaching pedigree of who they at least know will be on the coaching staff when he arrives to campus, where does that put us if he decides he wants out from Michigan? Firing Flood could possibly just lead him choose Alabama for the familiarity if nothing else.

Fuck. That's actually a good point. Catching a couple of high-end OL recruits from Michigan or elsewhere could give Sark just enough ammo to justify keeping Flood on the staff.

Losing two coaches is one thing but sticking with a program that blatantly hid this stuff until you signed is another. I'd tell them to kick rocks. Wonder how that works with NIL though

So the family loved the fact that Sherrone was the only head coach that trekked out to Hawaii to visit him.

Sark should start packing for Hawaii.

In order to know all of this would happen, he would have to have seen an oracle.

Malakai Lee:

The Hawaiian native and Michigan signee is looking at getting out of his LOI, source tells IT.

Lee wants to see who Michigan might hire over the next few weeks, but the source indicated he’s trending on his release.

Texas would certainly have interest and we continue to check all angles in this recruitment.

Great news at a position of need. We should have some excess funds to throw at Lee after those 2 DL decommitted the week of signing day.

Michigan has another OL Bear McWhorter who is out as well.

Gerry also chiming in on Malaki Lee:

OnTexasFootball spoke with a source close to the recruitment of 4-star++ OT and Michigan signee Malakai Lee (Honolulu, Hi./Kamehameha).

OTF believes Lee is around 75% or higher probability he will ask for his release from his LOI.

Even though Michigan will be hiring a new staff, it's still unlikely he will stick with the Wolverines according to the source.

OTF also believes Texas would be the most likely destination for Lee, barring a significant change.

OTF will continue to monitor Lee's ultimate decision.

I think we cracked the code on OL recruiting. Finish 2nd to a bunch of kids and then have the #1 team's coach leave or fuck his assistant.

If you think about it, pussy being undefeated and all, it's a sound strategy. 100% foolproof.

Maybe instead of the one fund we start a honey-pot account.

Don't we already have a guy giving handjobs to recruits? This would not be a big step up from that.

Why are we wasting time recruiting guys that aren’t even 4-star +++?
