Gerry is at least modest enough to get this, which is why he’s usually skeptical about high school lineman making it as college tackles, regardless of bonafides.

The fun part is that Gerry hasn’t backed down, hedged, or equivocated one bit on Turntine. Lines have been drawn.

I don't have an opinion one way or another.  Flood and Sark have hit it out of the park with their OL evaluations over the years and have had success with reshaping their bodies whether it's losing weight like Cam or gaining weight like Goosby.   Judging by how many schools that want him and his worth ethic, this kid will probably maximize his talent.   Also, for the better part of 20 years, Gerry has basically said everyone is a guard.  I find it mildly amusing that he gets so heated about the people in the industry that keep ranking Turntine as a guard.

If folks are right about Bowman, he would be an extremely timely get.  The tight end room is really good and has been.  A “generational” tight end that wins repeatedly in the middle of the field would be an amazing gift for any new starting QB in a couple years (Lacey, Bell or otherwise)

LSU WR commit Jabari Mack sets two Texas visits

Will Turboff (Horns 247)

Destrehan (La.) Top247 wide receiver Jabari Mack is just a matter of days into his commitment to LSU, but that hasn't stopped Texas from continuing their pursuit.

In addition to an official visit to see the Longhorns, which is still scheduled for June 13, Mack tells Horns247 that he'll be on the Forty Acres twice during the next month.

On both April 5 and April 26, Mack will return to Texas to see the team during their spring practice window and speak further with Chris Jackson and others on staff as they attempt to flip his commitment.

When he was last on campus for Junior Day in January, Mack spoke with 247Sports about his connection to the Longhorns and why he could see himself playing in the Lone Star State.

"I like their passing game," he said. "They have a pro-style playbook. That's just going to get me better for the next level."

Apart from Mack, Texas has scheduled official visits with five wide receivers. He, Longhorns' commit Chris Stewart, Mater Dei product Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, and Texas A&M commit Aaron Gregory are all set to be in Austin on June 13, while Texas legacy Kaydon Finley will be on campus on June 20.

Additionally, Clemson commit Naeem Burroughs set his Texas official visit for the 20th, but Horns247 does not expect him to break Dabo Swinney's 'no-visit policy'. However, DeSoto's Ethan Feaster has expressed interest in returning to Texas this summer, but is yet to set a date.

Jabari Mack ranks as the nation's No. 129 prospect, No. 15 among wide receivers, and No. 6 among players from the state of Louisiana.

Sam Roseborough Jr Szn Highlights - Samuel Roseborough highlights - Hudl

I am not sure why you say that other than he is not 6'6". This kid can move. If he gets to 315 and keeps that athleticism, there is no reason he can not play Tackle. He may get the same NFL draft treatment as Kelvin Banks due to his height, but that does not concern me about being a potential high end tackle in college.

I tend to trust Gerry intrinsically with all of this. I don’t think there’s anyone better on the evaluation end and he puts in the work with the families, agents and staffs. He seems to remain confident in Texas landing Turntine at LT. Just seems like Texas and Turntine aren’t as resolute as he is in terms of that ultimately happening. Still early, though.

I'm not sure how their measurables (specifically the lengths- height, wingspan, arm length, hand size) compare, but Turntine's hudl reminds me of Donovan Jackson's. Jackson could have played tackle at a lot of high end schools (and he eventually did fill in there OSU due to injuries), but was a guard level for the highest end programs. Of course, Turntine is playing against better comp, doesn't have senior stuff out yet, and might just be longer than Jackson, so maybe this ends up being a bad comp on my end.

I think more than any other position, OL evals are incomplete from just watching highlights and reading height/weight. You need all kinds of background info, including measurables, injuries, football character intel, full game tapes, etc

Totally agree. So much projection involved at OL. Can they remain athletic and put on the 30+ pounds or in Brian ONeill's case almost 70 pounds (Pro Bowl LT from Minn out of Pitt). Will they grow into that massive frame. Etc

There is nothing more annoying in the recruiting chat than the "he is a guard, not a tackle" comments. Texas has had a pretty solid run at LT with Connor Williams, Sam Cosmi, and Banks. Williams and Cosmi were great in college and end up being kicked inside in the NFL. There is talk that the same will happen to Banks. Despite the evidence in front of Texas fans eyes, they will pretend that an NFL guard cannot play Tackle in college.

Nuggest on the Recruiting Trail

***

Portal

Texas is hosting Stanford EDGE David Bailey on campus currently. Bailey was previously at Texas Tech this weekend and could potentially end up at UCLA for a visit closer to home as well.

But where else could Texas go in the portal? An obvious answer is wide receiver, as the Longhorns are currently practicing with a group of receivers who have yet to catch a single pass in their career. While talented, experience is needed.

One addition at wide receiver is expected, but a source indicated depending on what the scholarship count of the WR room looks like during the spring portal might actually dictate if they add a second playmaker should the right fit become available. Right now a TBD.

2027 San Antonio OT Recaps Texas UOV

There is a big time 2027 offensive lineman in the 210 these days. San Antonio Roosevelt OT Kaeden Scott was on campus last week for the Longhorn City Limits recruiting event.

At 6-foot-6 and some change, Scott was one of the more impressive prospects from a physical standpoint that we saw this weekend. According to Scott after the trip, the visit went very well for the Horns and Kyle Flood.

"It is going to get me to where I need to go if I choose to go here," Scott told OTF. "In the spring practice, I saw the type of energy that (Flood) feeds into his dudes."

Scott said he weighed in at 292 pounds on the visit. He will visit Texas A&M on April 12.

Texas offered back in October of 2024. The proximity to home is going to be a key factor here as well. Scott mentioned that he wanted to make sure his parents could visit and see games on a given weekend. Texas is off to a very solid start here for what will be one of the class of 2027's best.

Secondary Recruiting

Before departing for the New Orleans Saints, Terry Joseph was promoted and given the pass game coordinator position with the Longhorn defense. Meaning, he was likely to be given the reigns for the entire secondary and its play calls.

Since moving on and the addition of Duane Akina back to the 40 Acres, I have been told that is very likely a role he adopts.

As a result, Mark Orphey will continue to teach technique at the cornerback spot, but will have an overwhelming influence in recruiting at both positions, as well as Keynodo Hudson. The early returns back on Orphey have been very positive, including his energy on the trail.

Texas A&M Making a Move for 2026 DL

Texas A&M added two commitments the final week of March to their class that now stands nine deep. The name I was told to watch for the Aggies included 2026 Buford (Ga.) High DL Bryce Perry-Wright.

Perry-Wright is expected to officially visit Texas on June 13.

I had forgotten about that post. Seeing Turntine he looks like he needs 3 years to add mass to hold up in conference. I'm sure he's good, but Rosenborogh definitely can play tackle. My personal preference would be Ojo and Rosenborogh, but I'll take Turntine if that's what the staff wants. I guess it's a win-win.

This seems mildly surprising, no? I guess OL spots are filling up and some tough decisions will have to be made.

If his final 3 are OU, SMU, & TAMU…

Then he has been told by Sark & Co that he is no longer in Texas’ plans.

Even if he wanted to go elsewhere, he would keep Texas in play to help with contract negotiations at another school… unless the OV invite has been revoked

¿Entiende?

No, it violates recruiting ethics. You obviously haven’t read the recruiting code of conduct, edition 69.

With Katoa heading elsewhere after the Robertson commitment, I’m assuming they’re locked in with the other IOL they covet and couldn’t make promises to Katoa that others could. They’re picking who they want at OL in this cycle.

Katoa doesn't have good feet. Wright doesn't either but as a third tackle he'll be okay. I am curious if we are still pursuing Krempin. Roseborough will be inside. Then we will recruit Turntine, Ojo as tackles. I've been high on Utu and moving him inside. But, all the interest in Pepe and Greene makes me wonder if they are just shoot the moon plans until Ojo and Turntine make up their minds or if they could really bring in that many high level guys who want to play tackle.

So, when I saw this article, I wondered why we needed another one on the status of Dia Bell's commitment to Texas.

The analysts protest too much, methought.

Turned out Loy was doing a series on all top, committed prospects.  Okay, fine.

When I read actually read it, it was an effusive and emphatic confirmation of Bell's commitment status, an update on his recruitment efforts on behalf of Texas, and effectively, a nice little paean to Sark and team's approach towards and success with these high-profile QB recruitments.  With distinct echoes of the Arch Manning recruitment.

A few excerpted quotes below, but skim through the article (spoilered);  it's worth it.

****************************************************************

"Bell hasn't wavered in the slightest. ... and is completely locked in."

" ... it couldn't be more evident that he wants to play for Sarkisian."

" ... the other schools in play — such as Georgia, LSU and Ohio State, to name a few — there is little to no optimism that Bell will even visit their respective campuses."

" ... this is about as drama-free a process for a high-level quarterback as you'll find this cycle."

"Bell is adamant about his love for Texas, his family feels the same way."

And my favorite ...

"He never even had a single discussion involving money prior to his pl edge to the Longhorns.

He chose Texas for all of the right reasons." 🤘  🤘  🤘

Tom Loy (247 Sports)

We are still a long way from Signing Day in December. And in the current era of college football recruiting, things can change on a dime. 247Sports' Status Check series aims to update fans on the latest with the class of 2026's top committed prospects. Today that means a look at elite Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage quarterback Dia Bell, who announced Texas his commitment June 17, 2024.

247Sports' latest Top247 update made Bell the nation's No. 22 overall prospect and No. 5 quarterback in addition to the state of Florida's No. 4 player.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite has him 11th nationally, No. 3 among quarterbacks and No. 1 overall in the Sunshine State.

Here's the latest on the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder and what's in store next.

THE LATEST ON BELL'S RECRUITMENT
Dia Bell
Bell committed to Texas last summer. He chose the Longhorns over a long list of offers that included LSU, Ohio State, Florida State, Texas A&M, Alabama and Oregon, among others.

Since his pledge to play for coach Steve Sarkisian, Bell hasn't wavered in the slightest. He's been extremely active as a recruiter, a regular in Austin for visits and gameday trips, and is completely locked in.

Now, it would be premature to say that his recruitment is completely shut down. That isn't the case.

Bell continues to be respectful of longstanding relationships and is having dialogue with coaches whom he has known for a while.

He is still being pursued by five programs as of today. Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Florida State and Alabama all need quarterbacks in 2026, and each is pushing to flip Bell from his commitment to Texas.

Oregon is a school that could turn up the heat once again if it misses on elite quarterback Jared Curtis, who will commit to the Ducks or Georgia in early May.

If the Ducks are forced to pivot, look for them to once again go all in on Bell. They once recruited him as hard or harder than any other school in the country.

However, as it stands right now, they are fighting an extremely uphill battle.

RECRUITMENT NOT SHUT DOWN, BUT VISITS ELSEWHERE WOULD BE A SURPRISE

Barring a surprising change, Bell is not planning on taking official visits beyond the one trip to Texas. He is not interested in other programs and he's made that clear, respectfully, to each of these schools.

He is focused on continuing to build something at Texas. So, unless something shocking takes place like a coaching change at the top with Sarkisian, Longhorns fans should feel pretty comfortable about their standing with one of the premier signal-callers this cycle.

On that same note, there was truly only one time Bell felt uneasy about things with Texas since he committed, and that was when there was chatter about Sarkisian leaving for another job, particularly in the NFL.

Whether the rumblings had merit or not, that is neither here nor there, but it did remind Bell and those around him that this is a business and changes could happen.

That said, as soon as Texas signed Sarkisian to a contract extension through the 2031 season, nobody was happier than Bell. Again, he wants to be at Texas and it couldn't be more evident that he wants to play for Sarkisian.

NOTHING BUT CONFIDENCE COMING FROM THOSE AROUND TEXAS

(Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports)
On the flip side, in talking with sources around the Texas program, they couldn't feel better about their chances at keeping Bell locked in.

Taking it a step further, talking with sources connected with the other schools in play — such as Georgia, LSU and Ohio State, to name a few — there is little to no optimism that Bell will even visit their respective campuses.

Trust me, there is plenty of frustration on that front, because they know how talented Bell is and would love nothing more than to eventually flip him from the Longhorns.

One Texas source laughed off the pursuit from other schools, adding, "We're good. We got our guy. Hook 'em." Call it cocky, call it confident, but it sure seems that Texas knows that it is in a terrific spot with the coveted arm.

BELL REMAINS THE BELL COW FOR TEXAS RECRUITING

Up next, Bell is set to return to Austin in two weeks. He'll be back in town for an unofficial visit during the weekend of April 12-13.

He'll be joined by his mother and two siblings. In addition, Bell will be joined by a variety of top targets that weekend from the 2026 class.

Bell will be in town the same weekend as top Texas running back target KJ Edwards. A priority target for Bell and the Longhorns, the nation's No. 43 overall prospect will announce his commitment in August.

Also joining them in Austin that weekend is No. 109 national prospect Luke Wafle, No. 6 player in New Jersey Damari Simeon, Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian edge rusher Dre Quinn and New Orleans Edna Karr cornerback Hayward Howard Jr.

Bell will also have an opportunity to add to the quarterback room that weekend. Coveted 2027 gunslinger Peyton Houston is also expected at Texas for a visit, and Bell will do what he can to help quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee and Sarkisian land another top arm.

Outside of those visitors, Bell has been doing all he can to add to the Texas 2026 commit list, which currently totals four members and is No. 33 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

Some of the top guys whom he has been working on include five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo, and a handful of Top247 targets — athlete Jermaine Bishop, running back Ezavier Crowell, offensive lineman John Turntine III, wide receiver Kaydon Finley, and offensive tackles Sam Utu and Kodi Greene.

TOM'S TAKE ON BELL AND HIS PLEDGE TO TEXAS

In talking to those connected to Bell and this recruitment, this is about as drama-free a process for a high-level quarterback as you'll find this cycle.

Bell is adamant about his love for Texas, his family feels the same way and the staff couldn't be more excited about having this elite signal-caller fully committed to the Longhorns.

When it comes to NIL, it seems Texas is doing all of the right things, so there are no concerns there.

To take that a step further, it was never a factor when Bell committed to Texas.

He never even had a single discussion involving money prior to his pledge to the Longhorns.

He chose Texas for all of the right reasons.

Look, Texas wasn't Bell's dream school growing up. He wasn't born into a family full of Longhorns. He's not from the Lone Star State.

However, in the end, Bell found a home at the University of Texas and he is fired up to don the burnt orange and white for the next 3-to-4 years.

I expect him to eventually put pen to paper and ink with Texas in December.
