If these collectives are unscrupulous assholes, they’d probably try sending a strongly worded demand letter threatening legal action even if there is zero legal basis or chance they would actually follow through. I’m sure they’re upstanding folks, though.

May 29May 29 Gerry Hamilton Thursday Recruiting Notes The Texas staff will be back in the office today and tomorrow as they get ready for a hectic month of June. OTF delivers some recruiting notes to begin the day. Xavier Griffin ... There are clearly two programs that have confidence in the recruitment of 5-star LB Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High). That is Texas and Alabama. OTF spoke with a source close to the recruitment Wednesday night, and the source believes Texas remains in a very good spot headed into June OV's. Texas had a tremendous April UOV, and in-home visit in May. OTF does believe Texas leads headed into OV's. But as we will continue to say, the majority of recruitments remain in the balance headed into June. Staying in the state of Georgia ... Texas is very much in the mix for 4-star+ defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright (Buford, Ga./High). There are family connections to the Clemson staff, which is the concern for the Longhorns. Even with that said, there is some confidence on the side of Texas. Texas A&M is the third school in serious contention headed into June. Miami and Auburn round out the OV list. Samari Matthews ... The Tar Heel State 4-star++ cornerback is considered a Texas lean headed into June OV's. Two weeks ago, the thought from a source close was Texas led Clemson. Matthews has now dropped Clemson (they have four DB commits already), and will make an OV to Miami this weekend instead. We shall see if Miami can make the major move this weekend to provide competition for the Longhorns. South Carolina and FSU remain on the June OV list. Dre Quinn ... Texas remains confident in the recruitment of 4-star+ EDGE Dre Quinn (Norcross, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian). With that being said, Quinn's recruitment is a real battle with Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia and Tennessee. The April visit is said to be the best for the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder and his family. Mark Bowman ... Texas fully understands the battle for 5-star tight end Mark Bowman (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei). With that said, there is some quiet confidence headed into June. Also at tight end, Texas has quiet confidence in the recruitment of 4-star++ Heze Kent (Brunswick, Ga./High). Florida and Miami are set to take their best shot the next two weekends. K.J. Edwards ... Confidence remains in the recruitment of 4-star+ running back K.J. Edwards (Carthage, Texas/High) headed into June. The June OV's are LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Texas.

May 29May 29 Krempin is obviously the one Gerry alludes to that Texas might want at guard that has tackle options elsewhere. Would be interesting if the guy just wants to be at Texas, which allows Texas to go out and still get two tackles. Would kill aggy as he is the first name all the aggy 9.95 mention as “Aggy in a great spot with” on any recruiting note.

May 29May 29 Author This made me curious about our in-state DL offers. Starting at edge, we offered: Jamarion Carlton (#33 overall, #3 edge): Some interest, definitely not recruiting him like we believe that ranking Kevin Ford (#98, #11): Nothing going on from either side Landon Barnes (#194, #21): Later riser, we're suddenly poking around along with UGA and tOSU Jesse Ford (#198, #30): lol, nah Calvin Carter (NA, #90): who?
May 29May 29 Author And at DL proper, in-state we've offered: Jaimeon Winfield (#66, #8): Wanted him. Took a bag from USC, we'll see if it holds up Keith Dotie (NA, #63): Offered him like the day before he committed to SMU and shut his recruitment down for now And that's it!

Took a bag from USC, we'll see if it holds up Keith Dotie (NA, #63): Offered him like the day before he committed to SMU and shut his recruitment down for now And that's it! These are great examples. It's stunning to me overall how all in the staff has gone in recruiting nationwide. It's not just dipping their pinky toe in California, and maybe grabbing a kid from a neighboring state. They've been successful in Florida previously, and certainly we've seen players recruited from other hotbeds like St Louis and Georgia. But we're going after kids wherever they are. This is the widest net and with the biggest numbers of out of state targets I've ever seen. That any of us have ever seen. I really like the way they're doing it, too. There's no desperation. It's utter confidence. Last year I was really nervous around this time. Now I feel an utter state of calm. They're going to make their big push on the June official visits. They've brought in the creme de la creme. There's no fat in these June visits. No bread. And they've kept their powder dry. So many other schools leading with a premature ejaculation. Texas ensures there's some interest and fit there beyond the payday. No process ensures you hit on every target, and regardless of what kind of environment you have, kids are going to transfer for more playing time if they're talented and it's tough to see how they get on the field in the time and manner which they're looking for. But the methodology Texas is choosing to employ is the best way to manage personnel. The only thing is, you better be an apex predator to do it this way. You have to be uber confident in your product, your sales pitch, and your ultimate ability to close. It's not like Texas is the only game in town. But I really love the approach they take, and I'm convicted it's going to pay dividends come the early signing period and beyond.
