The loudest individual moments were Ricky, Kindle decapitating Potts, and USC blocked kick scoop n score. Loudest sustained games were Nebraska 01, Mizzou 08 and Bama 22 Same here. Ricky's run was the most amazing moment I've seen in DKR. Nebraska was amazing, Okie State comeback was amazing, Bama this year. Okie State was amazing because we all knew VY would get us back in it. The crowd didn't 'give up'. Bama this year, the overall atmosphere was the best I've seen. But there has been so much added in and around the stadium itself, so the crowd noise was only a part of that.
October 7, 20223 yr 2 hours ago, ztejas said: Per capita this was the best energy I've ever been in attendance for at DKR. I think the diving CJ catch was the loudest moment. Stadium wasn't full and there had to be a good 10k TCU fans that day but we were bringing the heat. TCU had beaten us 4 straight seasons by 17, 22, 43 and 38 points. There was a lot of catharsis that day. Then: Lost 4 straight to TCU. Sterns had 2 picks and we won big. Now: Lost 4 straight to blowu. Sterns had 2 picks last night. Ergo we win big tomorrow and get more due catharsis. These are the two single loudest plays I’ve seen in person. And for good karmic measure it was Sterns too.

The crowd exploded the instant Ramonce got the ball because we instantly all knew it was going to be a TD and Texas was winning that game. Greatest comeback I've ever witnessed. 2008 Missouri game was probably louder for a more sustained amount of time, but this single moment was the loudest I ever heard. That was loud. 1990 Houston and 2008 Mizzou were louder. I have a friend that played OL on the ‘90 team. Said Bama this year was just as loud.
October 7, 20223 yr Sustained loudness, it was Bama. I was a teenager at that UH game and it was the most "raucous" but not the pure loudest. And how could it be? The stadium seated about 23K more people for the Bama game and is more built to hold in sound these days with it more closed up. If that Bama game had been a night game there would be no doubt in people's minds. For moments I have attended there is always Ricky in 98, Mike Jones for the win in 99, Ramonce Reverse of course and a few others where the place exploded. Didn't get to go to Mizzou 08. And since it is this week the loudest I have ever heard a Texas crowd be "pound for pound" was when Stonie did his thing at the goal line. That shit was nuts. Edited October 7, 20223 yr by Surly Bevo
October 7, 20223 yr Yeah, I’ve got to go with the Mike Jones TD against Nebraska in ‘99 as the single loudest moment at a game I’ve attended. It seemed like the slowest 17 yard catch and run I’ve ever seen, and the reaction kept building until it exploded when he crossed the goal line. Still remember some idiots (not me this time) getting electrocuted due to some exposed wires when they jumped into Littlefield fountain after the one on the east mall had already filled up with students. It was a wild day.
October 7, 20223 yr *Horns vs Tech 2003 In 2003, my cousin had the hook up. I was allowed to work a few games as a volunteer for Quiznos - serving drinks and what not. I would be released for 2nd halves to roam the grounds and do whatever. We was down 5 with 2 mins to go.... multiple loud moments... I remember squeezing my head through some black gates to see the field. Mock big bomb to Roy - LOUD! Mock runs for first down- LOUD Mock dart to B.J for TD - LOOOOUD!! Techs missed FG. dead silence to LOOOOOUD! - i had to hit the recap from espn for play by play- i swear i remembered it as an overtime game.... Does anyone remember any home OT games from 2001-2003?

October 7, 20223 yr Agree on the loud moments/games mentioned so far One loud moment that I haven't seen mentioned, was Phil Dawson's game-winning kick against UVA in 1995. Not quite as loud as other moments mentioned, but it was definitely one quick, loud outburst from the fans.
October 7, 20223 yr Tyrone Swoopes and Texas is Back… except of course I didn’t hear the TV call cause I was at the game. It was only after I discovered a meme had been born…and as much as I hate it, we beat ND and that’s fucking awesome!

But 105K, stadium configured in a more closed fashion, we were giving #1 all they could handle, I give the noise nod to Alabama 2022. Only drawback was the heat perhaps sapping some energy.

October 7, 20223 yr I was at most of the games mentioned that occurred after the 1990 UH game. For me, the loudest moment was Ricky running into the record books. The stadium erupted when he broke past the line and roared continuously for several minutes. It was awesome!

October 7, 20223 yr The Mizzou game is probably it, but one I don't often see mentioned is the aggy game from that year. I feel like there was a moment when we had them pinned deep in the NEZ and the crowd was lit as fuck. Obviously this was during the style points comparison with OU and the Big 12 title bid so the crowd was really lively.

October 7, 20223 yr 2 hours ago, Armybrat said: Say what you want, sonny. But for us really olds it was Tommy Ford’s TD with 36 seconds to go in the 1962 game vs. the Piggies. Yeah, this was my choice, as well. I figgered you or one of the other great-grand-olds would pick it. I almost posted it, but got off onto other things... like, did someone poison Miz Long's doggie, or did he just get beat up by a raccoon again? Still dunno the answer to that, so thought I'd expand on that game just a bit. As noted, this was 1962 game. We were #1 in 1961, with 2 games to go... TCU derailed that, putting James Saxton, our best RB out of the game by kicking him in the head "accidentally", then scoring once while we scored not at all. This was limited substitution days, no or nearly no specialists. You went with who you had on the field for things like punting and FGs. Saint Darrell said after the game he had 5 or 6 first-and-goals, and if he'd gone for a FG on 4th every time, we woulda coulda shoulda won the game. The loud game against Arkysaw that next year, 1962, we were in almost the same position, we were #1 and piggies were top ten as well. They were clearly our biggest rival, so the atmosphere was loud and heavy already. By about ten minutes into the game, the student section had already lost several benches - the old wooden slats just couldn't take the jumping up and down. I'm not sure we sat down at all that night. I know I didn't - the bench I was on was one of the first to go. Arky kicked a FG in 2nd quarter, and led 3-0 for the rest of the game - almost. They had a couple of 1st and goals to try to extend their lead, but we held them out, including a fumble or two. With about 9 minutes left, they were driving, looking to put it away. We again took the ball away from them - either a fumble or an INT, I don't recall... but what ensued gives enough reason for understanding leaving that part behind. We took over on about our 15 yard line. With increasing pandemonium in the stands, that team pushed the ball down the field for the next 8 minutes, with 20 plays, 20 running plays, not so much as a single pass. Went for, and made, 4th downs twice (I think it was only two), and on 3rd and goal, with just seconds left - about 30 of them - Tommy T-Bird Ford dived into the end zone. After 20 plays and nearly nine minutes, we were down to our last two possible plays... and it was done. It wasn't just loud, it was FUCKING loud.
October 7, 20223 yr The piggie fumble on their last drive was forced by Pat Culpepper, and a young Tommy Nobis when they stuffed Danny Brabham (See below) On the Horns’ ensuing drive up the field to win, the Silver Spurs were swept up in the excitement and started firing Old Smokey (the real one) for every first down we made. And there were a bunch of them since those were the days of “three yards and a cloud of dust” football.

October 7, 20223 yr The Houston Cougars game where we totally shutdown the Run and Shoot and slaughter Klingler, comes to mind.
October 7, 20223 yr Was going to say this one. I wasn't at the legendary 1990 Houston game, which seems to get mentioned a lot. I was at Ricky's 1998 record-breaker against aggy, the 2016 OT thriller against Notre Dame, the 2018 blasting of USC, and this year's game against Bama, to name some of the loudest games I've attended. But the Mizzou game in 2008 was the first time I've ever seen the Longhorns play at home ranked No. 1 (don't forget, Mizzou was ranked 11 at the time and had a damned good team), and it was after one of the best Texas/OU games in recent history. When we jumped to a pretty big lead in the first half, that place was louder than I've ever experienced. My cousin was at that game and he still says the same thing. Loudest game has ever been to with 2008 Mizzou. The stretch of OU, Mizzou, Okie State and Tech is the toughest we've ever had. OU, Mizzou and Tech were all damn good that year. 3 of them were legit national championship contenders during that stretch. The Tech loss to OU a few weeks later in a buttfucking fashion took the shine off them though.
October 7, 20223 yr UCLA vs Texas Sept 1970 The air went out of the stadium, and there was only 52 second left when Texas got the ball back, with no timeouts. There was a break in the action after the UCLA punt, and the PA announcer, sensing that the game was slipping away, made an announcement about the Longhorns 22-game winning streak. He in essence was asking for applause for what the team had accomplished. Then a wondrous thing happened. The entire student section on the east side stood on the new aluminum benches and began to stomp and cheer. It quickly spread throughout the stadium -- even to the west side. Over 65,00 people were standing and stomping making more noise than I had ever hear in Memorial Stadium. A friend who was in the press box working for the Daily Texas said that suddenly the wooden structure began to wobble as if there was an earthquake. The noise continued as Texas broke the huddle. After making one first down, Eddie Phillips was chased out of the pocket, and as he was going down for a 9-yard loss he fumbled the ball out of bounds. Good thing, since it stopped the clock. Facing 3rd and 19, Royal called "86 pass, Ted crossing, Sam post." Jim Bertlesen broke the 'bone and ran a short hook to help clear the middle. Tight End Tommy Woodard (Ted) ran a deep middle route, while Cotton Speyrer (Sam) ran the post. The ball barely went over Woodard's head (he was double covered) and as it reached Speyrer the UCLA defender in the prevent tried for the interception while another UCLA defender nearbye was caught leaning the wrong way. The noise factor doubled and those still in the press box began to fear for their lives as that structure began to shake like a bowl of jello. I don't remember a whole helluva lot of what I did that night, but I do remember that I was in no shape for class on Monday and it took all the energy I had just to drag my ass to work that afternoon. The win gave Texas the new SWC record for most victories in a row at 23. But the post-game atmosphere was strikingly reminiscent of that in Lubbock last week. Royal was bombarded with questions about the offensive troubles until he finally said, "There are some people around here who think all we have to do is put on an orange uniform, crawl out there in the Wishbone and say, 'Bang, you're dead'."
