Great payoff at the end.

This hit quite literally close to home.

There’s a sad/pissed off woman with a gun, allegedly sitting in a lawn chair in the middle of a freeway.

Pretty sure that's the summary of a damned good Rodney Crowell song.  Shit, that's just a regular Thursday in most of SETX.

From the Chronicle because I’m not a cheap bastard and pay for a subscription to the local paper.

An armed woman in a lawn chair caused a standoff that shut down all lanes of Interstate 45 Thursday afternoon, Precinct 4 Constable's officials said.

A crisis intervention team was trying to talk to the woman to end the standoff on I-45 at Cypresswood a little after 3 p.m, said Thomas Gilliland, a spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The standoff began after a crash involving two vehicles, and a woman in one of the vehicles got out of one of the cars with a weapon and sat down.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down.

Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman encouraged people to avoid the area, as the woman, who officials said was suicidal, was refusing to comply with verbal commands and drop the weapon, he said in a Facebook post.

The two-vehicle crash shut down the left and right shoulders, the left lane, right lane, three center lanes, two frontage road lanes, the entrance ramp, the opposing left and right shoulder and five opposing main lanes, Houston Transtar reported as of 1:40 p.m.

Just landed in Denver.  Watching this on the Grizzy.

If she’s still out there, she’s pretty damp at this point with this storm over the last hour or so.

Crazy woman in the freeway, Astros game traffic and pissing down rain. I might get home by 10:00 tonight. Maybe.

I haven’t seen gridlock this bad in a long time. Just need to add in a train blocking all the crossings.

It was a fucking beating. I hope the Astros lose every 12:00 game they play. It’s fucking ridiculous they do it during the weekdays. Wish the CoH would tell them to fuck off.

So you work downtown and have to deal with the traffic…cool.

and did you even read the post immediately preceding  this one?

Sorry your job sucks and you can’t enjoy weekday day games… cool.

My job doesn’t suck at all. Fuck off. I’m entitled to not like weekday games that let out right when 90% of downtown workers are trying to get home. What a stupid fucking thing for you to take umbrage at.

I also don’t think the city of Houston can tell MLB to fuck off. Unless you’re cool with the Astros leaving

That’s fair and I’m not. I should have said “I wish they could” instead of “would”.

Don’t you live in the fucking Woodlands? Look, dude, weekday day baseball games are a gift from the deities. I’m not the one who makes bad life decisions. My commute to Montrose isn’t impacted by the Astros and it’s not the fault of the Astros that a crazy lady closed the freeway down today. That just sucks for everyone involved.

By all means, we don’t want to inconvenience your dumb commute.

That crazy lady has nothing to do with all the roads closed downtown that add 30 minutes to my commute every time they play weekday games. And how in the fuck are you claiming “bad life decisions” for me.  I mean this is Surly so being a dick is fairly common, but there is absolutely no need for you to attempt to disparage my life because I don’t like unnecessary traffic. So once again, FUCK OFF.

Choosing to live >30 miles away from where you work and spend that much time in a car everyday is a bad life decision, IMO. So go fuck yourself, bro. Complain more about your shitty commute THAT YOU CHOSE. The Astros don’t need to accommodate your freezing cold takes about weekday day games, which are awesome.

In your opinion. That’s the key. You are entitled to your opinion. In my opinion, I’ve chosen very well. So, fuck off. I hope the next day game you go to sucks.

It won’t because, win or lose, a baseball game on a weekday afternoon with a cold beer in hand is awesome. Enjoy wasting your time on I45. The next decade is going to be a real treat for you with the rebuild starting up.

I don’t drive on 45 you dumb dick.

You don’t think the rebuild will increase traffic on other N/S thoroughfares you dumb dick?

I love how I’ve touched such a nerve with you. You’re awfully worked up about getting called out on your dumb take about baseball games.

You said “enjoy wasting time on I45”, dumbfuck. Read your post. You made it personal rather than leaving it light.

Oh, you got me there, dumbfuck.

I'm glad you enjoy living in Houston. I'm not really sure why you decided to be a dick and try to insult me in some sort of weird flex or humblebrag about going to day baseball games and living in Houston, but here we are.

That would be the lamest humblebrag ever. But for some reason I really touched a nerve and I find that very entertaining.

If the freeway was a bridge over a body of water I might be concerned.

When it rains in Houston, that’s a good possibility of happening

Police need to have guns that shoot nonlethal tranquilizer darts for situations like this. We can't have major transportation infrastructure shut down for hours every time one person has a bad day.

Username checks out.

Yeah it caused absolute traffic nightmares. I had to get from Greenway to the Near Northside. That was not a fun Uber ride. Poor bastard spent an hour in traffic taking every back road imaginable for about $35.

Woof, that sucks. And for that driver he probably made half that after Uber took their take.

Happens all the time when I use Uber in New York. I have no idea how these guys grind out a living.

Same. After gas, insurance and everything else it’s a hard way to turn a buck.

I believe the Constables Pct 4 responded to Grambo. Everybody already knows they're assholes, so I'll agree with Samir here. Drill her between the eyes with a tranq dart and keep it moving.

Just here to point out at the Astros are kicking ass and to say, y'all chill.

July 30 vs WAS is the next weekday day game. I’ll buy @Hate a beer.

In fairness, living in an area with shitty public schools or paying $50,000 per year for private elementary school isn’t a bang up life decision either.

Weekday afternoon games are the best. I get that  some fans can't make them, but it also opens up games to fans that nights are tough, especially with school aged kids in the summer. They're also bad ass in taking off work with friends and enjoying a beer at 1pm on a Wed.

Finally I like the idea of giving the ball players a slight break in the flight schedule so every flight isn't red eye flight.

You probably don’t want to hear my opinions on having kids, in that case. 😃

Ditto. Astros and Rockies next Thursday. Making it a 4 day weekend

Sorry... no rugby options for me.  If there was a team here, it would be the Austin Googlymogglies or whatever they were called
