Deryl was a tight end for the Horns from 1966-68 and 1970 (tore up his knee in the 36-13 thrashng of Tennessee Cottoe was a fantastpc athlete whom DKR would put in at DE in goal line situations.  Most have probably never heard of him, had he not been injured, Randy Peschel would not be a Longhorn Legend.  RIP Mr, Comer.

Wanted to bump this, but also fix some typos.  Deryl was injured in the 1/1/69 Cotton Bowl vs Tenn and did not play on the 69 Championship team.  That was a shame to me because he was on of the best players on the 68 squad.  When he returned to the 1970 team, he was not the same player.  FWIW, he played for Highland Park in HS, but he was not the HP stereotype.  His roomate was AA OT Bob McKay from Crane (small west Texas town), and I think they had quite a bit in common.

He was a key to our comeback win in '68 over BlowU.  They were stacking the line and doubling Cotton Speyrer on the outside so James Street drove us down the field hitting Comer over the middle time and again.  RIP.
