I’d wager it’s been a while since we beat Baylor twice in a row

ah telecast got it for me in real time.

Get out of town, patch Rori back together and call it a good win.

And it was against a blonde lady coaching the opponent...  😂😂😂

5-2 in conference and back to back wins over Baylor for the first time since 2010

First win in Waco since the big win back in 2017

1st place OU comes to town on Wednesday

Girls really need to learn how to play defense without fouling.  It’s going to happen with the defensive pressure being asked if them, so that’s why they need to know when not to commit to a cheap one because they are out of position.

This would dramatically change our season.

Texas wins in Waco, 68-55

Got to have Rori back.

Her not being in the locker room is a good sign. Didn’t need her in there to finish it off. Hopefully good to go

Couldn’t watch tonight, but if Rori got hurt that is concerning given her sore toe kept her out for weeks.

They just aren't the same without the white witch of Narnia coaching them.

Actually looked she took a knee or a foot to her ouchie parts/midsection. Vic said she’ll be evaluated but he didn’t seem distraught or upset. And he wears his emotions on his sleeve so you’d know.

Texas is #11 in NET this morning.

Computers still love Texas in the Big 12 (top team) with the actual Big 12 leader OU at 43.  Wonky Big 12 standings as they relate to NET.

OU (43)
Texas (11)
ISU (13)
WV (68)
Baylor (25)
Kansas (32)
Tech (70)
OSU (47)
KSU (69)
TCU (146)

They are so happy !!!

Team loves Vic and it shows.

Also notice how we beat our biggest Big 12 rival and didn't act like we just won the NCAA title.

OU likes to run and gun, so whatever Vic needs to do to stop a couple Sooner guards from streaking back to their basket with no one guarding them on a miss needs to be put into place today and drilled into them tomorrow.  We look slow/unwilling to get back on defense.

Gaston mentioned post game Vic told them in the 2nd half to stop crashing the offensive boards with 3 Texas players and get 2 back.

Big 12 WBB refs love to call fouls. I’d be interested in what Pancho thinks of the officiating on the women’s side.

On paper, the refs yesterday are a Final Four crew. With that said, there were a few calls I had to rewind because I just didn’t see what they were seeing. I bet those got clipped and sent to Patty.

By February 6 of last year, we had lost to Tech at home, KU at home and had a 3 game losing streak @ OU, @ Baylor and Baylor at home.

We'd go on to win 14 in a row after the back to back losses to Baylor, including a Big 12 tournament title by beating Baylor, and making it all the way to the Elite 8.

I criticize him and don't always trust his decisions, but damn, Vic knows what he is doing.  The light clicks and the players trust the game plan and themselves and each other.

Texas back in the receiving votes category in the AP poll

Opportunity to jump back into the rankings coming with #14 OU in town this week.  And then after that, the schedule lightens up a bit - no currently ranked team until @ ISU on February 13 (5 straight unranked teams). Then we have @ ISU / @ OU as 2 of our last 5.

They did it on makes too because our girls linger near the basket to defend the inbound and set up the press. All it takes is two running to guard one opposing player.

Yep, which drove me nuts because I recall teams doing that to beat our press last year too, specifically Baylor.  A lot of over the top passes to completely neutralize the press.

Depth and fatigue are a concern vs blOU.  Nice to see Vic steal depth minutes by starting Faye -- if I remember right, Penders often used to do that with a younger player on his roster too.

Amazing job in team rebounding by Texas yesterday.  Hope we starting shooting better from behind the arc...

Texas has routinely started Faye in the 1st half and then opens the 2nd half with Jones.  Unfortunately, Faye picked up those 2 early fouls in the 1st Q and had to sit.

Texas S&C Zillner posted a video of the team working out. Rori was there participating. Looked fine. I really do think she just took a knee or foot to the you-know-what

After the Baylor game Vic said he didn’t press today, not one possession.

Said he thought we might be better just guarding them in the half-court mainly because the Baylor guards are really good. Laughed about stopping pressing altogether.

We'll see what he does on Wednesday.

Caitlin Clark had a triple double to hand #2 tOSU their first loss of the season on their home floor last night.

That girl is good.

Texas (14-6, 5-2 Big 12) vs. No. 14 Oklahoma (16-2, 6-1 Big 12)

Wednesday, January 25, 2023 – 7:00 p.m. Central

Moody Center – Austin, Texas

TELEVISION: The game will be televised nationally on Longhorn Network with Alex Loeb (pxp) and Brenda VanLengen (analyst) on the call.

RADIO: The game will be carried on 105.3 FM in Austin. Craig Way (pxp) and Kathy Harston (analyst) will call the action. The broadcast will be streamed on TexasSports.Com.

BATTLE FOR FIRST PLACE: Oklahoma and Texas are 1-2 in the Big 12 standings. If Texas wins on Wednesday, the Longhorns and Sooners will be tied atop the standings, with the tie break going to Texas.

The Oklahoma Sooners (16-2, 6-1 Big 12) are on a roll as they try to extend a five-game winning streak when they visit the Texas Longhorns (14-6, 5-2 Big 12). Sonya Morris' 13 points led Texas to a 68-55 win against Baylor on Sunday in the team's last outing. Oklahoma defeated Oklahoma State 97-93 on Saturday in the team's most recent outing, led by Madi Williams' 26-point scoring effort in the victory.

Texas Team Stats

Texas' 77 points per game this season out-paces the 75.3 points per contest Oklahoma gives up. The Longhorns are 8-2 when they put up more than 75 points. The Longhorns are a strong offensive rebounding team this season, averaging 15.4 per game. That mark is good enough for first in the Big 12 and 12th in the country.

Oklahoma Team Stats

Oklahoma enters the matchup with a third in the nation 87.3 points per game average on the season, 29.7 more than the 57.6 Texas gives up per contest. The Sooners are 16-2 in games when they score at least 58 points. The Sooners hit 73.9 percent of their free throws as a team, the fifth-best mark in the Big 12. Williams knocks down 2.9 free throws per game to lead Oklahoma while connecting on 74 percent of her attempts at the line.

Texas Players to Watch

Morris paces the Texas' scoring effort, averaging 12.1 points per game. Rori Harmon is the team's best passer, putting up 7.3 assists to go with 11.1 points per game. The Longhorns' leading rebounder is Amina Muhammad, who grabs 5.8 boards per game in addition to averaging 4.8 points. Morris has a 41 percent shooting percentage from downtown and leads the squad in made threes per game, drilling two three-pointers per contest.

Oklahoma Players to Watch

Oklahoma's top scorer, Williams, averages 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Skylar Vann paces the Sooners with 7.3 rebounds per game and adds 10.9 points, while Nevaeh Tot leads the team with 4.2 assists per game while averaging 8.6 points. Taylor Robertson is the top shooter for Oklahoma from beyond the arc. She leads the team in made threes per game, drilling 2.7 three-pointers per contest (making 42 percent of her attempts).

_________________________________________________________

We can score on them but we've got to get some stops. No more fast break freebies.

Vic said after Baylor we weren't penalized for contesting shots (unlike at Tech). Hopefully that will be the case tomorrow.

OU scoring offense is #3.  Texas is #31

OU scoring defense is #339 out of 350 (lmao).  Texas is #45

My guess is today's game is going to be just like last year's - Texas by double digits at home.  OU only shot 45% and 29% from three in Austin last year.

If Texas can get to the line 25+ times, they will win.  They went to the line 27 times in the game last year in Austin.  One of Morris or Shaylee is going to play the Audrey Warren and score 20+ (AW scored 21 in last year's game).  44 paint points last year - Gaston, Jones and Faye should do well against the no-defense Sooners.

Yeah the key is to be patient enough on offense to get a shot within 5 feet of the bucket. OU is terrible on defense so the last thing we want to do is settle for long distance jumpers. Also always have a spy on OUs sprinters to avoid fast break after a Texas bucket.

Seeing terry doing his show on lhn before the game reminded me of last night before the men’s game, I turned on lhn and it was Vic’s show. He was in all orange sweats and still with his whistle around his neck, with the cinch snugged up to his throat.

does he always do that for the show?

OU doesn't play a lick of defense. Just be patient and Texas can get whatever they want on the offensive end.

Gaston's confidence in that outside shot continues to grow. A great sign.

Can't leave Robertson open ladies.

And now Gaston heads to the locker room to look at an injury. OU back within 2 points. They can close gaps quick

Shooting 75% 😂

Hope Horns have the stamina to win this game tonight...

40-36 Texas at half

Lead up to 12. 12-4 3Q so far

The apparent absence of repeated OU SUCKS chants is concerning….

Loved Gaston's choice to ole the defense on the runout, didn't pick up her 4th and the girl still missed the shot.
