Make that a 14-4 run

I forgot the lesser Joens went to OU. 😂😂

It does make some sense though. Ou seems a good spot for people who can’t spell Jones.

1-17 in the 3rd Q. That is….something

61-42 Texas. Only allowed 6 points

One quarter away from a 3 way tie for first in the Big 12. Unlike the men’s side, Texas has beaten the teams it would be tied with

OU and Iowa State are both two of the better teams in the Big 12 but also two of the teams Texas matches up with best.

They're soft and you can rattle them with physicality. These type teams that can score with little resistance get punched in the mouth and they don't know what to do.

I would not trust OU at all in the NCAA tournament. They don't play any defense and have very little size.

They are very good offensively but if they aren't hitting jumpers it's going to be a struggle for them.

OU fucking sucks lol. It’s not a surprise they lost to Baylor and will lose to us

Have they played ISU yet? Could be like a 110-108 game.

Healthy Jones is a huge weapon. This is what we expected when she chose us

You heard Alex just now, yes?  They go to Ames later this week.

It’s going to be interesting. He said it after I posted

Really hoping that Baylor win made this team believe in what Vic preaches and teaches. Time to go on a run and win the conference

4th Q has been sloppy but we had a huge lead so I’m not surprised.

No shit.  She hardly ever gets to sit.  This would have been a great time.

THIS !!!

Revenge game Saturday against OSU, then WV in Austin before we go to KU. Should be back in the rankings too

Texas wins 78-58

First time OU held under 60 in the JB era

So what’s the justification for this team being a predicted 8 seed prior to this win?  I suspect it will work itself out somewhat, but does neither the committee nor the guys that do the bracket predictions take injuries into account?

same general question wrt rankings.

Voter Rankings are what they are. NET loves us. Committee is supposed to take injuries into account. The USF, Tech and OSU losses aren’t great bc Rori was back. We should get a bit of a pass for the November losses.

We were allegedly a 7 after the Baylor win. This should knock us up to a 5 or 6

Did much better against the zone tonight. Makes that Tech game all the more irritating.

Jones and Gaston's games both getting better, will be huge for us going forward.

Had more trips to the line than our opponent for a change, 16 to 25

It took some irritating losses last year for the team to figure things out. Tech/KU at home, at OSU and at OU. And those Baylor games were maddening. Late January into February is when a Vic team starts to “get” it

Texas beats blOU...  78 - 58

My reaction...

Great game tonight ladies....I thoroughly enjoyed watching yall beating OU's ass...

6623 for the game last night is really good

Highest home game attendance of the year (6405 for ISU) and second highest of the whole season (@ UConn had 10k).

Last night was a good night for WCBB fans and some former Longhorns.

#10 Maryland beat #13 Michigan
#5 UConn beat Tenn
#7 ND beat #24 FSU (Lauren Ebo had 12 points and 10 rebounds for ND)
#16 Duke beat #12 VT (Celeste Taylor had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals for Duke)
Purdue beat #22 Illinois
#6 Indiana handed #2 Ohio State their second consecutive loss

ESPN last night highlighted both us and Tennessee as highly ranked preseason teams who are currently unranked.  Both teams have had some big injury woes this year.

Texas missed Harmon for the first few weeks of the season, Jones was out for a while and lost Moore for the season
Tennessee lost Tamari Key for the season and both Jordan Horston and Rickea Jackson have missed games due to injury.  Key was a huge loss for them, she's still their leading shot blocker despite only playing 9 of 23 games.

Texas (15-6, 6-2 Big 12) vs. Oklahoma State (14-6, 4-4 Big 12) - Game 22

Oklahoma State won the first game this season, 86-82 in Stillwater on Jan. 7.

DEFENSE GETTING IT DONE:

The Longhorns held an Iowa State team that was averaging 78.7 points per game to 53 points. Texas gave up six points in the fourth quarter to the Cyclones. Against Oklahoma, a team averaging 87.3 points per game, Texas held them to 58 points for the game and 6 points in the third quarter.  15 times this season Texas has held an opponent to single digits for a quarter.

RORI HARMON: Sophomore All-American Rori Harmon made history on Jan. 4 in the Longhorns win over TCU as she became the 4th player in program history to record a triple-double. Harmon scored 17 points and added 11 assists and 10 rebounds. After missing the first five games of the season due to injury, the Longhorns are 13-3 with Harmon in the lineup this season. In Big 12 play, Harmon is averaging 11.5 ppg, 8.4 apg, 6.5 rpg and 2.3 spg. Harmon leads the Big 12 in assists per game and steals per game. Harmon ranks fifth in the NCAA in assists per game on the season at 7.3 per game.

GASTON COMING UP BIG:  DeYona Gaston notched her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Baylor. Gaston scored 15 of her 19 points in the first half against Oklahoma. Gaston ranks second in field goal percentage in the Big 12 at 56.3%.

HOME COOKIN': Texas has won eight in a row at home and are 10-1 on the season at Moody Center. The Longhorns are outscoring opponents at home on average 82.1-50.9. Texas has a 48.9 field goal percentage in home games this season. Against OU they set a student attendance record with 834 students.

ESPN:

Texas Team Stats

Texas has tallied 77 points per game this season while Oklahoma State allows 68 per contest. The Longhorns are 14-2 when they score over 68 points. The Longhorns are shooting 69.2 percent from the charity stripe as a team, good for seventh in the Big 12. Shaylee Gonzales is leading Texas with 2.5 made free throws a game (shooting 88 percent from the line).

Oklahoma State Team Stats

The Cowgirls score 78 points per game, more than the 57.6 Texas allows. When Oklahoma State reaches the 58-point mark, it is 14-5 on the year. The Cowgirls dish out 15.8 assists while turning over the basketball only 12.6 times per ballgame (We are at 16 per game). Oklahoma State has a 6-1 record when it has an assist-to-turnover ratio better than its season mark of 1.25.

Texas Players to Watch

Gonzales leads Texas in scoring, averaging 12 points and 1.7 steals per game. The Longhorns leading rebounder is Amina Muhammad, who averages 5.6 boards per game in addition to scoring 4.6 points. Rori Harmon is the team's best passer, tallying 7.3 assists to go with 11.1 points per game. Texas' three-point shooting attack is led by Sonya Morris, who averages two made three-pointers per game while shooting 41 percent from downtown.

Oklahoma State Players to Watch

Terryn Milton's 17 points helped lead Oklahoma State to an 82-74 victory over Kansas State in the team's last action on Wednesday.  Naomie Alnatas leads Oklahoma State in points, scoring 13.7 a contest, and assists with 4.2 per game. Claire Chastain adds 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Cowgirls, while Garzon averages 11.4 points per game. Lior Garzon is a player to watch on the perimeter for Oklahoma State. She leads the Cowgirls shooting attack, making 43 percent of her shots from downtown while averaging 2.5 makes per game.

A win today puts Texas into a 2 way tie for first since ISU/OU play this afternoon and one of them will drop out of the three way tie. Texas going 6-0 or 5-1 over Baylor, ISU and OU would probably put us in the driver’s seat for the Big 12 title if we can handle business at home versus Tech, WV, OSU, TCU and pick up 2 road wins at WV, KSU and KU.

We are already 3-0 versus Baylor/ISU/OU with a home game versus Baylor and road games at ISU and OSU left. We haven’t really struggled much in Ames under Vic (11 point win in 2021 and 18 point win in 2022). Norman has been more difficult for us (1-1 with an 11 point win in 2020 and a 2 point loss in 2021)

Sweep the home games left, go 2-1 in against BU/ISU/OU and 2-1 on the road against WV/KSU/KU puts us as 14-4 with a chance at 15-3 if we sweep the WV/KSU/KU road games

OU and ISU tied 42-42 at the half in Ames. 26-18 first Q for OU, then a 24-16 2nd Q for ISU lol

ISU outscores OU 23-14 in the 3Q and wins by 10 in Ames.

Quick start up 11-2

26-18 Texas after 1

41-36 Texas at half

Not a lot of defense being played

not that it matters much, but I think it was 15 which is a little better
