Harmon must be on a minutes restriction.

Very likely. Manage her workload until conference play. A big part of missing multiple games/weeks is conditioning for Vic’s defensive system. Part of why I’d expect nada from Hunter if she even came back.

The defensive ball pressure is just so different with Harmon on the court. There can't be many players better than her in the country.

Texas wins 74-50 in Rori’s comeback game - she had 11 points

3-3 with the chance to win our next 7 to enter conference play 10-3 after the 1-3 stretch without Rori

Back in action on Saturday against USF

Edited by Js1

I wish they did +- in the box score because I bet Harmon's +- in this game was the team high by a good bit.

She played 23 minutes today but Texas is going to need 35 minutes a game from her like last season.

Good game against a quality opponent.

I'd try letting Sonya bring the ball up versus pressure when Harmon is out.

I’m addition to the new announced SEC/ACC challenge, the SEC finalized its new WBB format once we join

Quote

Women's Basketball

  • Regular season: Each season a team will play one rotating opponent home and away, plus the 14 remaining teams in single contests either home or away, for a total of 16 conference games.
  • SEC Women's Basketball Tournament: All 16 teams will compete in a single-elimination format, consistent with the current format but with two additional games. The top four seeded teams will continue to receive a bye through the first two rounds of the tournament

#18/22 Texas (3-3, 0-0 Big 12) vs South Florida (7-2, 0-0 American)

Friday, December 2, 2022 – 6:00 p.m. Central

Moody Center – Austin, Texas

GameDay Quick Facts

TELEVISION: The game will be televised on Longhorn Network with David Saltzman (pxp) and Andrea Lloyd on the call.

RADIO: The game will be carried on 105.3 FM in Austin. Roger Wallace (pxp) and Kathy Harston (analyst) will call the action. The broadcast will be streamed on TexasSports.Com.

SERIES: The series is tied 1-1. Most recently South Florida won in 2019 in Tampa with a 64-57 victory in the Longhorns season opener.

Notables

RORI'S RETURN: After sitting out the first five games of the season with a toe injury, sophomore All-American Rori Harmon made her return in the Longhorns win vs Princeton. Harmon played 24 minutes and scored 11 points and added two assists and one steal. Harmon was recently named to the Wade Trophy Watch list for the top collegiate women's basketball player, marking her eighth preseason honor.

TOUGH SCHEDULE: The Longhorns have played a challenging schedule through their first six games. All three of their defeats are against top-25 teams with two of the three against top-10 teams.

MAJOR MINUTES FOR THE FRESHMEN: The Texas freshmen Amina Muhammad and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda have played significant minutes for the Longhorns. Muhammad is averaging 19.4 minutes per games and Mwenentanda is at 22.1 minutes. Muhammad scored a team-high 14 points in the Texas win over Rutgers in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.

GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Longhorns are holding opponents to 60.17 points per game this season. Every opponent Texas has faced has scored below their season scoring average for the game. The Longhorns rank third in the Big 12 in scoring defense.

USF leads 23-18 after the first quarter. We're trying to play their quick style and we can't keep up the pace. We need to settle down and play some defense

WTF is going on here

36-25  USF leads    3:26 left in 2nd qtr

Not defending the 3pt shot worth a shit

42-33 USF leads at halftime... gotta come out strong in the 3rd qtr. 🤘

This is a very good South Florida team. Pounded lesser teams and only lost to the ranked opponents.
They are 7 and 2

Beat TCU Georgia Tech and Alabama.

Only lost by five to number 17 Michigan

And we have a long way to go to figure this out.

They appear to have better shooters than us, and we look terrible in transition D

Dang they are playing like shit...

Alright..

Two quick steals... 2 Texas buckets.

Finally showing some life

Dang, tough possession with 4 shots for Texas and no bucket.

Timeout  3rd qtr  3:51 left

USF 48          Texas   42

Texas offense is just struggling...  Missed 11 of last 12 shots

53-45 USF leads  1:45 left in 3rd

56-53   here we come !!! 🤘

USF timeout    7:21 left

If Taylor wasn't out we'd be looking a lot better.

Her presence in the paint is crucial for us this year.

C'mon Ladys!

Furious last couple minutes... Both teams competing like crazy

63-62 Texas up again.

3:20 left

We needed that bucket Hadi missed, but at least she got the board on the other end.

Tough game, great opponent.

44.3secs left   USF ball

USF leads 66-65

Texas has 1 timeout left

yeah, WBB has a long way to go, probably not a top 25 team right now

USF won because we let them play their fast pace offense against us and we couldn't keep up. No excuse to lose a home game like this.

Poor execution by Texas on late game possession down only 3pts,  results in a turnover.

Damn... 1st loss in Moody 🙄

Harmon looked really rusty, kept tripping on her on feet, didn't guard very well.

USF played better and earned the win tonight.  They might be an NCAA tournament team in March...

Puisi played 40 minutes, 25 points, 10 for 19 and 5 for 11 from three.

They are 8 and 3 we are 3 and 4..... This is not like losing to a much lesser team, they will be in the tournament.

Not the team I expected this year, but we are a work in progress. At least Shaylee looked better and when we get Jones back that should help.

Don't see that patented Vic defense yet, hopefully in a month the team play will be better.

Go Horns.

Not worried about the team or this game. 23 first quarter points can’t happen but they continued to play better defense.

sometimes a team just shoots well and usf did that.

Just taking some lumps as we gel

Work-in-Process

Defense needs work.  Offense really needs work.  Haven't had much of a chance to watch this season yet, but a glaring hole for the Horns last night is terrible outside shooting.  Really wish Texas had a couple of better 3pt shooting threats -- USF definitely did.

Coach'em up Vic !!!

Spot on. We could really use Matharu right now.
Best shooter we have is Sonya, and Vic dog housed her in the second half. Might be hurt….

Agree with this here. I thought they started to figure some stuff out in the 4th quarter, but I think it was too late.

We are clearly out of contention for a 1 seed. I think our ceiling is a 3, which is fine.

Ebo having a damn game in South Bend against UConn, considering she was invisible in their loss to Maryland on Thursday

Texas wins 92-43

Cathartic game for us, the right opponent at the right time, should build some confidence.

Nice to see the smiling faces, Shaylee and Sonya both with great games and looking more comfortable.

With Taylor out Hadi getting some valuable time.

Fun game to watch, we will get there.

Go Ladys!
