Tie. Drabek and Swindell.

serious answer though is Nolan Ryan, Moises Alou, Yuli and Brantley are probably the Mt Rushmore. Rank them how you want.

1. Nolan (by a lot)

2. Alou

3. Yuli

4. Brantley

Going through old pics because of the death of my grandmother / mom and came across this -- 1996, my son's first Astros game.

  • NSIAP, but 10000% of this.

This is correct, but the 2,3,4 spots are really close to each other.  Alou was so damn underrated as a player.

Pretty amazing just how few great FAs the Astros have signed in 60 years.

Are we talking best value?  Most cumulative impact?  Most immediate impact?  I would nominate Charlie Morton.  He put up probably $60M worth of value in his 2 seasons and I don’t think the stros win that WS without him.

Good one. I forgot about him bc he wasn’t even an all star and wasn’t here for all that long but totally to both.

the astros traded for moises alou.

Well I’ll be dipped in dogshit.  Did not remember that at all. For 3 guys I’ve never heard of. Great trade Uncle Drayton. It’s not the Bagwell or JV trade but it’s pretty damn good!

Helps when the team you are trading with gives zero fucks

I thought that too, but was assuming I mis-remembered, like Andy Pettite.

The trades the Astros have made have been usually pretty solid, Joe Morgan and Kenny Lofton not withstanding.

Realized we missed Pettite and Jeff Kent.  Both pretty damn good signings.  Same for Roger.  Hmmm, makes me rethink the list.  Nolan is still 1 though

Jeff luhnhow signing with the Astros worked out ok

Evan Drellich: Sign stealing is escalating spitting game for Yankees and Red Sox - NBC Sports RSN

Finished that fucker's book last night (checked out from library). It's a good read full of juicy details behind the scenes but his entire anti-Astro thesis was permanently neutered when Yordan turned the game upside down that Saturday night in November.

maton came in for a scoreless inning with a k.  i know we give him a lot of shit, and much of it is earned, but is there a better rp6/rp7 on any team in mlb?

i trust pressly, abreu, stanek, montero, neris more than him.  maybe seth martinez too.  bullpen is stacked.

I was thinking that was the case but figured my memory must have failed me in my old age. Glad to see I’m not senile yet.

Hector Neris just gave Altuve some chin music in the WBC

Yep

just came to post that.

get this under control, hector

Neris gets out of the jam by striking out Acuna.

It's become an Astros pitching party. Luis Garcia is on in relief for Venezuela

Garcia strikes out Pena to strand runners on first and second

Dominican manager should have asked Dusty about batting Jeremy 2nd and that wouldn't have happened.

You should trust Seth Martinez more against RHH at least.

Luis strikes out 7 and gives up no hits in his 3 IP. Outstanding!

Tucker flies out to center in his first AB

7 Ks and 2 BBs in 53 pitches is kind of impressive.

I think you meant to say the surly thread. Much more ‘knowledge’ here

Much better effort with the IG stuff than he had with the bat.  If Altuve had a night like he did he would be in the batting cages right after the game was over.

I think Altuve celebrated the world series after batting .190 in the playoffs

Yuli was easily crane’s best free agent signing, was he the franchise’s best fa signing ?

Clemens and Pettitte blow Yuli away.

Huh, I thought they'd keep him around until the WBC guys came back
