Going through old pics because of the death of my grandmother / mom and came across this -- 1996, my son's first Astros game.

munch better use of the verlander money

I'm assuming their teams broke rules when signing them?

You could certain argue those guys are #2-4 after Bill Doran.

Throw them $2mil each, if our international signing budget allows it. Have yordan (and hopefully yuli) deliver their checks

hmm, if they’re free agents, they don’t count against your international players allowance ?

All international amateur players are free agents and count towards each team’s signing budget. That announcement is just MLB making them eligible to join the pool.

I wonder, in a philosophical sense, if a guy like Castro or Brantley feels like they are a world champ after missing half the year and all the playoffs while being in their walk year and maybe not coming back to the team.
I know they get a ring, but I wonder how they feel?

Brantley contributed and was a starter until he got hurt, so I would think he feels like he earned it.

i try not to waste time wondering how professional athletes feel.

Now we can all go to Baseball Savant and form immediate, fully informed, infallible opinions on this dude.

But hey, at least we know Bagwell ain’t interim GM because there’s no way he’s heard of this dude

I hope Brantley appreciated the active players dragging him into the team photos. Also the impact the speech apparently had that he gave in the world series is enough imo.

He must have some wicked spin rate numbers that we can harness on those throws from third.

Castro hit a game winning HR in his last AB as an Astro.

I think I am a pretty knowledgeable fan when it comes to recognizing who players are league wide because i watch so many games not just Astros, play fantasy baseball, and am into sports collectibles (baseball cards etc) and I have never fucking heard of this loser fuck.

so the Astros have had 3 of the top 5 second basemen ever ?  Maybe 3 of top 3

Might want to put the homer crack pipe down. 3 of the top 20 for sure maybe 3 of the top 15.

Lulz at the Rangers. 5 years to DeGrom ($37M AAV). Holy fuck, that contract is really shitty.

They have the Texas A&M BMA sports contract consulting firm on the case.

You could probably say the Astros have had 3 of the top 20 Left Fielders wear the uniform between Lance Berkman, Jose Cruz, & Luis Gonzalez

3 of the top 20 centerfielders too

Carlos Beltran, Kenny Lofton, & Jim Wynn.

26 starts the past 2 seasons

Good for deGrom.

Seager, Semien, and deGrom add to to...$700 million? Lol.

And the Astros greatest claim to fame 6 of the top 30 pitchers

Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Justin Verlander, Curt Schilling, Nolan Ryan, & Zack Greinke

They are trying to follow the Yankee model only with even shitter performance.

the bannon signing really pushed them into a corner

This was the text to my buddy from Rochester who is a huge Yankees & Bills fan

"I guess the Rump Rangers are so sick of the Yankees taking their scrubs they are bound and determined to prove to the Yankees how shitty contracts are really signed."

Why not Rodon?

I like that signing for them more than the Seager signing last year. Any year DeGrom is healthy he will likely be worth that. They are a big market team and make plenty of money from their tv deal, way more than us.
i mean- he will probably pitch 300 innings over the course of that deal and fuck them big time, but it’s not a bad contract or number if healthy.

Would you make that bet?

If Rodon is really signing for 5/120 or something like that which I saw that’s a steal imo. If we didn’t sign Contreras I’d be all about doing that Rodon deal if that’s all he gets. I suspect he gets more.

Just now, David Dennison said:

If I was them?  Maybe. They have to overpay for big talent. They can’t get a guy like Abreu to sign 3/58 deals because they are a joke. If they can get into the WC then maybe they can start filling in with some more mid tier guys and not have to overpay.
They are on a fast track to nowhere and have the money. Their opportunity costs are low enough I might make that bet.

We don’t need Contreras

If Altuve stacks some more big years 3 of top 10 or 12. Bidge could arguably be considered 9th or 10th best 2B ever.

I just want JV in the NL so he can pile up regular season stats for his career and then if that team makes it to the World Series it is basically one gift win.

We didn’t need Abreu either but he fills a hole (or 3) really well for reasonable money that we have, so, why not?

I would slot Bidge 12th because of his time in other positions. If he would have been a full time 2B he would be top 5.
