January 27, 20232 yr Not sure this matters but Weather Channel 10 Day forecast shows nothing about any of that in Texas. I looked at Dallas and Lubbock.

I guess none of y’all know what a single model means? Do none of y’all ever follow the hurricane threads? Yes, this will not be in a forecast as it is a single run by a single weather model, that forecasts are based on. If all models showed this a week out, we would be fucked. 3 days out, if multiple models show this, it will be in your forecast.
January 27, 20232 yr Author The Weather Channel is pretty much worthless for anything more than a day or two. Watch the NWS forecast. It only goes out 5 days as anything past that is unreliable. There are multiple pro mets that are looking at the models and the weather patterns. What was posted is possible. We’ll know more by Sunday how likely it is. Edited January 27, 20232 yr by Hate

It has never happened in recorded weather history...but yeah, there's a chance it will beat the standing record by 25% and just this one model can see it coming. LOLz. I've been through 31" of snow in Denver area in '03 and Harvey in 2017. Wild ass weather events happen, of course. Edited January 27, 20232 yr by slorch
January 27, 20232 yr I’d just like to say that if it doesn’t snow 20” in Lubbock, UT34 and the field of meteorology should be stripped of all credibility for the rest of time.
January 27, 20232 yr My bad guys, what was I thinking posting a well known global weather model on the winter weather thread. Won't happen again. Back to your Weather Channel and Farmers Almanac musings. /Slorched
January 27, 20232 yr Fucking fuck, man, maybe this should go on the Greg Abbott thread. I just got my gas bill for this past month. $165.24. January 27, 20232 yr It sucks. But yeah, definitely the wrong thread for it. There are at least a couple in DT, and I assume there's one in CR, related to this.

Sure, it's not CR-related. I didn't intend for it to go that way either, except, hey here's a fact, between COL, insurance and other stuff, you can't survive on minimum wage. It doesn't pay enough. But cookies.

January 27, 20232 yr I'm sure next week will be a total relief for our natural gas bills Glad I keep it around 69 here (nice!)

January 27, 20232 yr If you want to insult me you could at least call me aggy. Although I have two degrees from UT. I am married to an ag, though, so that's probably close enough.
January 27, 20232 yr Apparently the winter weather thread has turned into the thread of bitchassedness. If y'all wanna have a slap fight with each other, take it to PM's. If anyone doesn't want to see future models that are just shared for fucking reference and potential planning, go to a different thread. Jesus Fuckstix, people.

January 27, 20232 yr I love when a "Man" in Texas lectures us on being an old-school alpha male cut in the cloth of the founders of Texas. Who also keeps his thermostat over 68 degrees in the Winter. Buy all the guns and trucks you want, won't change the fact you're an energy-wasting pussy. That said, I need to change out our filters this weekend. Both heaters running too long overnight and causing debris. Edited January 27, 20232 yr by YGIFS
January 28, 20232 yr Still playing the Wintergeddon prediction, eh? For Lubbock on the highest chance of precip next week: Snow during the morning will give way to rain showers during the afternoon. High 46F. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.

That wasn't the context at all, so fuck off. There were a couple of "Is this shit real?" or "what is the real prediction here?" questions. We've all seen crazy outlier models. It was not posted as such. Then others have shared the subsequent Twitter posts about how bad it's gonna be downstate because of no wind energy. I swear there's a few decent weather folks and then there's a metric crapton of people drumming up hysteria, who are funded either by HEB or Lowes. Edited January 28, 20232 yr by slorch

Only from you, there was a single other question about scale, that was clarified. Posted as such? It was literally says at the top of the screenshot what model it came from. I’m sorry you choose not to read before posting. Everyone was literally just sharing info, until ol Neanderthal slorch had to come and and shout everyone down. Models like this get posted ALL THE TIME on this thread and other ones. A weather model in a weather thread doesn’t need context for apparently 99% of the other readers. Sounds like you are talking about yourself in your last sentence. But I’m sure you’ll be around again to shout me down on how wrong I am. Sorry for the threadjack all.

Jesus fucking christ Slorch. I like you, but just fucking stop. This was a model run. There are several different models that are run several times a day. The one that was posted was from several days before the possible event. It was NOT A PREDICTION. It is used to show that a winter weather event is possible in the future and posted as a means to inform other Surly posters that something may occur...to let them know that something that could impact them in a negative way may be on the horizon. Goddamn, the fact that I've had to create this post is utterly goddam ridiculous. Don't come to this thread if you are going to take every single model posted as the gospel

The last ice storm ripped so many limbs off trees that it led to the summer killing the grass because there was no shade where there used to be shade. Now I've got to completely re-work the yard after this summer's drought fucked things up further. Is there anywhere that gets more consistently hard weather than Central Texas? Not only do we get 105 degrees for days on end, drought, we get hail, ice storms, floods, hard freezes. True we don't get Houston floods or hurricanes, but the "day-to-day" just seems it can be way harsher than other places. Edited January 28, 20232 yr by FirstTimeCaller

The air above will be cold enough to freeze the rain and the ice rain will fall fast enough that it will accumulate before it can melt. Basically.
