January 31, 20232 yr I'm not sure where the panicking hordes are going, but in NW Hills both the Randalls and the HEB were pretty chill at 4:15 today. Maybe now they're overrun. Me? I'm doing fried chicken, onion rings, a quiche, and some turkey and ham sammiches over the next two days. Oh yeah, beer.

January 31, 20232 yr I put the faucet covers on outside, since it’s even easier thing to do than SA’s mom. I honestly don’t think they make a shit, because even with those + towels + hand warmers they still freeze up…but since my pipes seem to live on after multiple freezes I am concluding that PEX flexes enough that it’s not a huge issue. Besides one of the spigots is on a garage exterior wall so it’ll freeze no matter what.

It cost me < $100 over snowpocalypse, and that was 6 days. I'll pay the water bill. Lance Armstrong uses that much water every day.
January 31, 20232 yr Ice is already accumulating on trees and my deck in Boerne. I'll have to be careful walking out to the hot tub.

Great facility and staff. That being said, cancel that shit. Surprised they haven't already contacted you about rescheduling.

Yeah, wednesday might still might be dicey at that hour. No reason to risk it. If they pull some shit where they can't see you for a month after that. PM me and I'll drive you. Got AWD Lo, and most mornings, I'm not shitfaced drunk. Edited January 31, 20232 yr by YGIFS
January 31, 20232 yr Will you fuckers stop getting old? oh wait... 48 hours of lock down. Told GF she is not going to class and only can get out of bed when I have calls. Chicken stew in the crock pot. Dogs know to run fast. We got this.

January 31, 20232 yr The drive to work was sketch af. couldn't count all the 18 wheelers that were wrecked on 287 and 114. the road was blocked twice and I had to wait that out. Left for work an hour early (usually takes 45 min) and got there 15 minutes late. North Texas is FUBAR.
January 31, 20232 yr Just drove from Round Rock to Westlake. Wasn't too bad. Little bit of slickness on the bridges, but managed to make it home without getting into a wreck. Semi's were doing 75 on I35.
January 31, 20232 yr Probably right around freezing for all of Tuesday in Austin proper, and below on the outskirts, and 100% of rain tomorrow night into Wednesday and through Wednesday morning, so yeah, count on some kind of delay on Wednesday for the school kids. Or hell, if the temps stay a few degrees below what they are predicting, plan on the kids staying home, no way the ice melts that fast.
January 31, 20232 yr They shut down 183A. Over on 130 (i think near Decker Lake?) they think two people were ejected off a flyover.

I plan on going into my office downtown, but may just take it slow on Lamar all the way in just to be safe.
January 31, 20232 yr The Decker Lake thing is a 20 car pileup. They aren't sure if the 2 who were thrown off the flyover are pedestrians or passengers, but it seems like they at least know where they are. Over on Ben White they've got a 10 car pile up with a dead pedestrian.
January 31, 20232 yr If you go anywhere today, remember that the precip is supposed to get heavier this afternoon and evening. Don't get stranded somewhere you don't want to be.
January 31, 20232 yr Hearing of multiple fatalities at 290 & Ben White where cars (!!) have gone over the overpass. Ten to twenty vehicles already involved.
January 31, 20232 yr And Travis County has closed all offices, including courts. I have a Zoom hearing this morning, but reportedly even remote proceedings are cancelled.

Now they are saying precip starting again this afternoon with us getting up to 33. You'd be safe getting half a day in the books.
January 31, 20232 yr It's thundersleeting here in Rowlett (east of Dallas). It was weird. It sounds like a thunderstorm with higher-pitched rain. Edited January 31, 20232 yr by Knoxtnhorn grammar

January 31, 20232 yr Shit-ton of sirens went by just now near Parmer/Mopac. It's gonna be a long day for emergency workers.
January 31, 20232 yr All the roads in my neighborhood in Plano are ice rinks. I'm not going anywhere, for possibly a couple days.

Here’s hoping that doesn’t extend into Thursday…after 2-3 days of kids cooped up they’re safer on icy roads than at home with their burned out parents
