Carne asada and cheese enchilada, fresh made corn tortillas. Tamale stand in the parking lot was nice during the Holidays. I haven’t loved their prices recently, but I’ll give it one more run for old times sake.
August 6Aug 6 I’m not sure if this news affects it, but Pico’s has a prix fixe menu for Houston Restaurant Weeks.
August 6Aug 6 This is terrible news. I discovered and started regularly eating at Pico's within a few months of their original opening on Bellaire Blvd. Fajitas, Chilorio, chiles in nogada, soft shell crabs, shaker margaritas.... I have no idea who can replace them on my rotation. [Xalisco would be the clear choice if they were not in the Woodlands.]. The only people I know happy about this are my internist and cardiologist.
August 6Aug 6 I can’t make it this week, but I plan to eat one last Pico’s lunch next week. Shame. I can’t really imagine anything replacing it.
August 6Aug 6 Mayahuel in Autry Park is new and interesting: https://www.mayahuelrestaurant.com/ Renonwed pastry chef and chocolate guy doing a family style mexican concept with a finer dining twist. Not high/fine dining but definitely trying to do more than the base case. The menu was above average and the location was really cool. The service was mid. Crowd favorites was the carne asada and beef cheek with the homemade tortillas and the shrip and beef cheek tacos. The cochinata I would not order again and the sea bass you could get anywhere. The apps outside of the pan y butter or whatever were forgetabble. I think I got some ahi tostado stack and some raw salmon something or another. The desserts as you can imagine were the best part-- the vanilla and coffee were my favorite. Good value and pricing here though. I wasn't particularly paying attention to costs and what I would have assumed/guessed felt like a $600 meal (with drinks) actually came back closer to $400. 3.5/5 Edit to add: looks like the just opened on July 18th so probably still working out a lot of the kinks. August 11Aug 11 Shoutout to the best lunch deal for sushi that I've come across. Akiko's in Meyerland Plaza has several Maki combos that include 5 pieces of nigiri or sashimi or both plus a roll and a soup or salad, ranging between $13.95 and $19.50. The food and service are usually great. I am somewhat fascinated that they're able to price so much quality food that low these days.

This is like finding an unexploded WWII bomb in Memorial. They could be serving repackaged Whataburger and I could give a shit. They have a speakeasy. We’re excited. Medium Rare is pretty great for portion control and all that. I think I remember it includes a salad of the day. Good parking as well for that part of town. Free restaurant parking in Midtown, I’m not complaining.

At brunch instead of the second serving of steak and fries you get bottomless mimosas/bloodies/screwdrivers (second serving of steak and fries was only $10 so I went full fat ass), and there's also steak sandwiches or steak and eggs available. Think they should do a happy hour bottomless fries and sauce for like $10. Though the bar isn't particularly well stocked I wouldn't mind having a couple old fashioneds while downing fries.

That all sounds amazing. I would slam bottomless orange juice instead of mimosas etc
