Unpopular opinion but I always thought he was solid as a broadcaster.  RIP.

If he's so great how come he's dead?

I always thought he was good as well. He was maybe a little too old school for some, but I don’t think that is anything new. RIP.

Damn.

Jack Buck and Tim Mccarver were nails for the 91 World Series. I was 6 at the time but we have some highlight VHS tape in my parents basement haha

Ron Gant was clearly out

I always felt like it was a big deal when McCarver was broadcasting. Made it feel more important. I felt the same way when Billy Packer was doing basketball games. Now both are gone and I feel old.

McCarver, Packer...if these things happen in threes, please let Joe Buck be next.

I'd keep Joe Buck if they'll take Al Michaels instead.

His first game was in '59, last game in '80. Not many have a career cutting across 4 different decades. (I remember this fact from his baseball card in '80 when I collected them.

You made me curious just how many there are.  The answer is 31, but Kid Gleason should have an asterisk.  He retired in 1908, but came back and played one game in 2012.  He did go 1 for 2 in that game, finishing the year hitting .500.  He also would manage the 1919 Black Sox a few years later.

Out of this list, every position is represented except for 3B.

I see Burt had some free time today.

But his math skills might need some assistance.

It’s interesting that recent birthday boy Jim Brown had done interracial love scenes with both Raquel and Stella and both have died days a part… coincidence?

So next to your bedside table?

I’m 90% sure that Jamie Moyer is still pitching in Latin America under the name Jaime Mas

Dude was damn good and mean as shit. He would gouge eyes, bite, spit in dogpiles and legwhip and trip if he got beat.

That was a poor choice of GIFs on my part.  I was more referencing that rather than go to her house and check on him, since she was working nearby, that she would call the cops.  If my wife called or texted and I didn't response while she was at work, she'd assume my phone was silenced or off, or anything other than something that needed a wellness check by the cops.

I’m assuming you aren’t a drug addict and or known to be suicidal though

Time delay killer dick?

Appears that Jimmy Carter is saying his goodbyes. No CR but after a tough presidency he did a lot of good for a lot of people.

He’s 98, won’t be 99 until October.

Sad. He was my CIC and I am proud of it. Was hand picked by Rickover.

He’s a legit legendary Georgian. This is going to be a big deal down here.

Bummer to hear that about President Carter, but certainly expected after all this time.  Clinton and Bush probably have another 15 years in them, and Obama another 25-30.  This'll probably be the last time I watch a Presidential funeral until my children are fully grown.  Kinda weird to think about but he deserves all the dignity and respect of a proper state funeral.  I am going to make it a point to take the kids through his Library in Atlanta one day soon so they can understand what men of honor looked like.

Are they like 16, 17?

Almost 4 & 8.  When Bush, Clinton, and Biden go, they'll probably be in college...statistically speaking---so "grown", yeah.    I'll be a grandpa, god willing, when Obama kicks it given the good shape he's in.

I'm thinking 2 are on the short list and it ain't Bush, Clinton or Obama.

@Armybrat, how many presidential funerals will this make in your lifetime?  Can’t be more than 39…

Edited by SurlyGator

I’ll take that bet on Clinton, he doesn’t have 5 IMO.

I'm thinking every single one.

Clinton looks like crap.  He may not last too much longer.

Even when he's on pain killers and bourbon. Hell, throw me on there while your at it.

armybrat did skip William Henry Harrison's funeral.  but to be fair, it was a sudden illness that took hold shortly after he took office and armybrat didn't have the ability to make an immediate train ride.

and clinton will certainly live more than 5 more years.  I'm betting 10-15.

Great nephew twice removed

You weren't alive when Coolidge died?  All jokes aside.

Fun fact, the 18.5 years between FDR and JFK was the longest we ever went without a former/current President dying,

I would bet heavily that we lose three former/current U.S. Presidents by the end of this decade.
