Did the airline lose their luggage? If so, everything that they've got is just what they have on.

I carry a B&R carry on, roll my clothes, pack light, etc and no one is getting a week’s worth of clothes in one without wearing outerwear at least twice especially with jeans involved or expanding it and exceeding the size limits. Then you’re the person standing in the aisle trying to cram the bag in the overhead holding everyone up. Airlines should make everyone fit their bags in the approved size contraption before security to speed up the actual plane boarding.

If you go with the wear it twice process, then at that point you are down to really packing 3-4 days worth of clothes and spreading it over 7 and bragging about how great you pack. That’s fine I suppose, but I’ll just throw a solid 7 days in checked bags and move on. My wife will wear a pair of jeans for a week though, so she carries on every time. I am admittedly OCD about clean clothes, so that’s definitely a me problem. However, the fear of the lost bag is right up there with other obsessions in today’s society we have currently that rarely come to fruition.

Our CEO has already had a talk with his counterpart at LUV and probably mayor Pete as well. My buddy has the account, I can't wait to see his 2023 projects.

Also Briggs & Riley suitcases are worth the $$, IMO. I can pack a week’s worth of clothes in the 22” Essential Carry on.

I’ve spent the last five years traveling internationally for a living, 22” sympatico spinner and a 40L osprey backpack was good for me. Even spent a year outside the US in those five. People just need to learn to pack light.

I pack my old B4 duffle bag, just stuff it in, pre board and piss off everyone by taking over a bin.

I kid.

Depends on the trip is how I pack. Been traveling international since I was 5 and roll your shit, pack it tight, and learn how to reuse outfits. Every suit should have two shirts, etc. I travel with two laptops in a backpack and a side bag. Always carry an extra t-shirt and pants in the backpack. Travelled a lot with a kid who liked to puke on flights. Learned that the hard way. Lot of good luggage out there. Just need to know what you need.

back to the discussion of Emirates and Qatar Air. Spent 7 years flying monthly back to the US from the UAE. Did both their non stops and did not like. Triple 7's on EU carriers vs. Airbus. And I get to get out, walk around a bit, etc.

Preferred flight was to do Dubai to Amsterdam and time permitting an overnight. KLM is my favorite plus I can get from there to any major US Airport pretty easily. Flew BA for a few years until Heathrow decided to be a shit show. Fuck CDG. Frankfurt was easy, but never fun.

Concerning domestic flights. I know I am just a step above cattle so two single vodkas before I board and go to sleep.

I’m glad I don’t have your clean clothes OCD  thing. That would suck. My OCD is focused on my debit card, passport, insulin and glasses.

Jeans are just getting broken in on their first wearing after a wash. Haha.

I’ve had a delayed bag on SWA when I checked due to more than one clothing category. That had a significant impact on my evening plans. My wife had one checked bag that decided to make a visit to belgium when she flew from Dallas to Maryland.

I’ve never had a problem fitting my rollerboard in an overhead. They make the overheads larger these days as far as I can tell but I fly AA almost exclusively.

I agree with your efficiency comment. Newb fliers should be required to watch an unwritten rules of air travel training video before traveling.

I applaud your commitment to checking bags. More room for the rest of us in the overhead. Keep on keeping on.

20 plus years of military TDYs and vacation travel. On avg 8-10 times a year even Covid year I flew 7 times. I’ve checked 8 bags in 20 plus years. 6 of those were on deployment 2 were bike bags. Y’all need to learn how to roll your clothes and pack right

also I only fly delta holler. And first flight out always never delayed. Sometimes I’ll fly AA. Never southwest cuz they always suck ass with military can board after all the A flight folks. Fuck that

I did 2 weeks in Asia on a 22 carry on And under-seat back pack  Granted we did laundry a couple times. If you are willing to rewear clothes and bring a collapsible day pack, you can absolutely make it work.

I’m not one of y’all Up In The Air level travel hounds, but 90% of people travel with tons of stuff you don’t need/won’t wear.  The rest is learning how to turn one piece into multiples/. A quick dry cargo swim short is swim/workout/hike/sleepwear.

WTF is the rollERboard shit?  isn't it "rollaboard"?

How do you get a pen, notebook, BCD, mask, fins, snorkel, speargun, and stethoscope into a bag and then into an overhead compartment?

those thick HEB plastic bags are perfect for carry ons in both strength and dimensions.

While I suspect this is a joke over my head, I have friends who scuba and like golfers, they cannot avoid checking unless you want to rent.

Yep, I can do 30 days in a carry on. Armor I would have to pack since it was usually considered a controlled item. Same with knives and IFAK's. Holsters were always new and in my carry on. Folks will steal that shit.

And MoFo's, you can buy shit when traveling. Have done that many times.

AA and United for domestic routes. KLM for international. If I had to go around the ME would try and go Turkish Air or one of the carrier airlines. Gulf Air and Omani. For the record, even though no booze, Kuwait is a fun airline. But nothing like KAM Air where the arm rests all were taped down.

And I have experienced delays. 1984. Honduras to Miami to Ottawa. Got stuck in Miami for 3 days. Tan Sasha hooked me up with a room with a stewardess (Sister of a friend) as my chaperone. Played video games at the arcade and gave McD's all the flight vouchers. 11 years old and got to run around an airport for a few days. Fun as shit.

This is the key and also some Jedi level Samantha Brown advice.  (She’s always been on my Not Hot but Hot list and I think my wife would give me a pass knowing my Samantha Brown thing.)

Anyway, multiple combos.  Two pants and five shirts is 5-7 days worth of outfits, especially if they’re T-shirts.  (This gets more difficult in the winter granted.  In the winter, wear the bulkiest item onto the plane.)

Your socks, underwear, and T-shirts don’t take up much room and can easily fit into a pair of shoes.  You can pack as many of these as you want.  I advise a pair for every day you’re gone plus one.  You can also pack in a backpack or something.

If gone for more than 7 days, find a hotel with laundry options.

I can be gone for weeks at a time and never check.

I do like the derail to luggage talk. I get to expense 250 for luggage and definitely need to upgrade from my TJ Maxx shit. I'm thinking Nordstrom rack time lol

Edited by Zepol87

Jesus I am totally fine checking a bag, but I don’t remember the last time I had a connection so risk is always low for shit getting lost.  I don’t have to drag it around the airport or worry about it at the bar or taking up space at the gate.  By the time I wait for everyone head of me to struggle with their shit and kill grandma dropping their bags from the bins, take a piss and walk to claim it’s rarely a long wait.

Doesn’t need to be Sit Or Stand To Wipe wars    To each their own.  Everyone carrying on is partly why deplaning takes forever.  No I don’t fly up front often anymore.

SWA will be fine.  The flying public flies maybe once or twice a year, are largely morons, and are 100% motivated by price and $50 matters to them.  The shit boxes with wings exist solely for a reason.  They proudly have shitty service and people come back.

Also, SWA isn’t Spirit.  They’re the largest domestic carrier.  There isn’t even close to enough capacity with the other carriers to absorb their passengers.

Yea that's why I check what would be a carryon and roll with my backpack. You guys have fucking terrible luck with bags and going extra with carry on only, but I'd rather wait 15-20 on my checked bag than deal with the morons pulling huge ass shit out of the overhead. Get off the plane get to luggage carousel which is usually by Uber pickup or hotel shuttle.

Get a TravelPro carryon. If you don’t want to drop $800 on Briggs & Riley, TravelPro is excellent, especially at under $200, for a carryon.

Perry Ellis or Calvin outlets. Nordstrom rack sucks. If you can afford their shit (which sucks) you can do better at other places.

Also, if in a town, walk into a Macy's, ask for a shopper, tell them what you want and you will be back in an hour. Get a beer/lunch/coffee and let them earn commission.

Landed at DFW once at 1 am.  While the proletariat wondered around looking for bags with a “do wut” look on their face, I walked straight to the ride to the Hyatt that I had already booked.

Not checking bags isn’t for when things are normal.  It’s when things go bad.

heheh, no you don't, so I would take advantage. I have also bought suits in Heathrow due to a project and no time. Boss said expense it so I did.

And at Macy's you are paying commission. They have shoppers on the floor. Or used to Pre-Covid. Not sure anymore since modified and I get to wear Adidas everyday.

Depends on the trip. 5-7 days, sure. 45 days with armor and suits, nope.

If it’s a summer vacation trip, you can pack literally 20 T shirts, 10 shorts, and as many socks and underwear as you want.  I can pack a month’s worth of clothes in that scenario.

Also, whatever the fuck your meds are, you don’t need pill bottles.  Pack your trips worth of meds plus a few days into a zip lock bag and keep them on you.  DO NOT CHECK!!!!!

So many questions, are you a certified little person? Are you just carrying an over sized carry on? Do you wander around in umbros, wife beaters and slides (no socks of course, to save space?)

This is a dumb discussion, people can do whichever they choose. However, airlines should enforce the bag restrictions as people’s need to carry on is an issue as everyone is pushing the limits. I carry on probably 80%+ of my trips (gate check Delta some of that 80%, get my bag before the plane has even unloaded), but it is in a not expanded, approved size carry on with a backpack (medicine and electronics and shoes occasionally) that fits easily under the seat. Most of my trips are 3-4 days.

Travel Pro expanded carry on.  Shorts take up very little space.  Same with T-shirts.  That is your entire outfit on a summer vacation plus underwear and socks.

This is the correct answer. This would fit your requirements - I think the current model is around $300.

Only one left in stock so the Surl went after it.

Travel Pro is good. Luggage is luggage. Focus on a good back pack that meets your needs. @Aqua Buddha needs a rucksack, @Zepol87 needs a pouch for weed and something to carry his dog in. @Brisketexan needs a ledge.

This. My whole family is in travelpros, and has been for a good while. Add baboon to the moon backpack/duffels that fit under a seat, and that’s my kids’ setup - both of them live overseas, and travel quite a bit. They can go 3-5 days out of just the baboon to the moon bag, which is a free underseat bag on cheapo carriers like Ryan Air.

Correct that is usually the reason I check my bag but again it is usually pretty smooth

True. I traveled to Detroit every week for 3+ years in the late 90’s. When the snow hits and AA cancels their flights, I can get an agent to put me on a Delta flight and not have to worry about “how will I get my checked bag”.

Try a last minute flight into Kabul or Katmandu. Now that is fun in January.
