January 10, 20232 yr What? I said 'no more shines.' Maybe you didn't hear about it. You've been away a long time. They didn't go up there and tell you. I don't shine shoes anymore.
January 10, 20232 yr Author Never forget, the 4 other films nominated for Best Picture that year: Dances With Wolves (holy fucking shit, this POS won) Ghost (holy fucking shit, this POS was nominated? For an Oscar other than "dumbest storyline ever?") Awakenings (I won't talk shit about this; De Niro was incredible and Robin Williams showed he knew the power of being small in a scene). The Godfather III (OK, just shit all over that. A three enchilada special of ass splats if you please).
January 10, 20232 yr One dog goes this way, the other dog goes the other way, and this guy says “Hey, whadda you want from me?”

January 10, 20232 yr The first time I saw this, I actually yelled "YES" when Tommy "gets made". I don't know that I hate any character in a movie more than Tommy.

Or whack him, as it were. When they first get there, SLJ is putting his pants on and there's mention of a girl he brought home to bang. For a split second, he's so fucking out of it, he's genuinely looking around for her until he plays it off. There's something so funny about his one leg in the pants, two mob guys staring him down, and he's looking for some evidence of the strange he got last night. I don't know why, it always cracks me up. All three played it perfectly.
January 10, 20232 yr It’s weird, I’ve seen this movie exactly once. Probably at a dollar theater, 30 years ago. And never seen it again except the shoe shine scene a million times (kind of hard to avoid) But I’ve probably seen Casino at least 4-5 times, out of order, on cable.

January 10, 20232 yr For whatever reason, I just kept catching Casino on TBS or USA a lot back in the day. It seemed like it was always on. I've seen that shoeless cowboy get thrown out it feels like 20 times.

January 10, 20232 yr "As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster." The opening 10 minutes of that movie is the greatest opening in Cinematic History. Fight me.

January 10, 20232 yr Only reason that guy lived is because his parents lived across the street from his in-laws. His street address is the only reason Henry didn’t kill him. Even if I told him, he wouldn’t believe how close he was to being whacked.

Nicky is far more hatable but more entertaining. His conversation with Charlie the Banker is one of the funniest scenes in the move. Probably the funniest.

Loved to give shit. Absolutely couldn't take shit. Was psychotically violent and capable of turning on a dime. Thankfully he was like 5'7" 120lbs soaking wet, but I halfway expected to catch a knife in my back leaving for class sometimes.
January 10, 20232 yr I loved the playing of Layla for these 2 minutes...the whole thing was reminiscent of the Godfather when Michael takes care of all the family business during the baptism:
January 10, 20232 yr Author "Paulie may have moved slow, but that's because Paulie didn't have to move for anybody. "That voice over delivered while Sorvino ate the sausage (classic Scorsese filming at 30 fps then slowing down in post to capture him chewing slowly and looking side to side, letting the viewer know that even during a backyard BBQ the boss has to know someone's gunning for him) is perfect.
January 10, 20232 yr I believe the Paulie moved slow line is when he first appeared at the pizza store. Eating sausage was the explanation of the mob. I too have watched this and casino about 30 times. I prefer GoodFellas though both are great.

That's when Paulie looked at his crew, sized them up, and they immediately fell into line. "You fucked up! I fucked up, you fucked up!"

I usually would drift home in some level of stupor and watch different scenes from Goodfellas, Lebowski, Snatch, Lock Stock, and Pulp Fiction. That 5 disk DVD player got a fucking workout on Friday and Saturday nights between 1-5am. So did quite a few ladies.
