2 episodes in, then i turned something else on.

why has this show turned into a david lynch knockoff the last 2 seasons?

should i even keep going?  my issues with season two are...documented.

At 2 episodes in, you feel like you missed an earlier episode because they haven’t explained the entire back story yet.  Keep going and more becomes clear.

disclaimer: I haven’t finished the season so no guarantees from me.  I’m skeptical but I’m going to finish it.

Just finished this season.
Was pretty lame.
No backstory on characters.
Just wraps everything up in last 20 minutes.
Just awful.
Billy Bob is a great actor and show started great in season 1 but its dying on the vine.

Oh, good, I'm not being a Philistine by not getting/enjoying it.

It got less weird, but still was meh.

Just finished. Had it's flaws, but overall great season. A lot of not so subtle humor. Acting was top notch.

Yeah season 2 was just too weird, but I really enjoyed season 3.

Much better than Season 2, but you do have to push through a bit before it gets going.

Show has a Westwood arc. The Beau Bridges victorian party trip was stupid and too fucking long.

Dennis Quaid looks weird and out of place.

There were so many silly and stupid decisions it felt like one was watching a walking dead episode with lawyers.

This. So many stupid decisions, like continuing to stay/work in a shitty indian casino motel room where they had spy cams watching him, had deliberately spiked his drinks with hallucinogens and would probably continue doing so and let's definitely not tell the partner any of this.

Just suspend reality a bit, get some laughs and some tense moment and enjoy it...

Sounds like I will skip seasons 2&3 after watching season one last week, as to not taint my opinion of a great show in its first season. Sad

Liked the return of a William Hurt but his younger girlfriend attorney no where to be seen.

i never fully understood the casino mgrs daughter and her role in the story.  And all of the storylines seemed to get wrapped up in the last 30 seconds with little lead in to the final outcomes.

And not enough Tania Raymonde. Hopefully any future seasons go back to more courtroom drama as I think those scenes are usually the best.

Realize a little late the the party but Kung Fu Fighting will make you dig deep. Loved season one. Skipped season two on Shag's advice. Fighting through season three.

Not sure I've ever seen a series take such a left turn after a great first season. I am even having a gummy and Jameson and still can figure out what the fuck is going on with season three and the weird flash forwards / backs / crows / etc.

Been a while since I watched S2, but don't remember hating it. BBT's character is just fun to watch.

I really like his character. And more Brittany Gold!

Cosign!

Maybe I'll go back. I started it last year and was never interested enough to go back to it. They've made Nina Arianda totally unlikeable where she used to be a fun cross of hostile and human. There are other, better things on the list, but Billy Bob is one of the most interesting actors to watch today. In these plague days, I'm sure we'll be burning through more TV.

So I came across this and watched seasons one and two. I think I must have started season one a while ago - I remember a few things like Brittany and the bar but did not recall the story. I thought it was entertaining, and I could watch Billy Bob Thornton or Tania Raymonde anytime. Not sure if I have the energy for season three. The most annoying things for me were the MacGuffin's and other stupid actions.

Season one:

  • How, when, or why was Cooperman burned?
  • Why does he hate Billy?
  • The defense was uber confident in its case until the end - it really needed to kill the plaintiff?
  • Why even do the fake suicide and just say there was a fault boat and pay the widow and kids $10M?
  • Dwight Yoakum is going to just spill everything randomly and McBride can magically turn on a recorder without him noticing?

Season two:

  • What's the relationship between Gabriel and Marisol? - for a few minutes I thought she actually was the kingpin and he was just an "actor"
  • Why does world's greatest drug dealer have to suddenly leave town? Was that just a "movie set" - why? She should have just taken him to Oaxaca and claimed she was from there but everyone she knew is gone.
  • Who was the "middle" guy - forget his name but the cop's best friend - just some random middle man between him and Wyatt?
  • These guys can kill a kid in prison but can't take out a random errand guy without some complicated frame job?
  • WTF kill Lou Diamond Phillips? It is not like parental alibis are uber credible on their own.
  • The magical super agent lawyer that went crazy knows everything?

Fun pulp but so many loose ends. I've overthinking it but it could have been really good if some basic plot points passed the common sense test.

It's been so long since I watched I barely remember the storylines. But I remember S1 was superior to S2.

I'm about 3 eps in to the new season, and I'm digging it.

the first couple of episodes got me wanting more. There are still some weird aspects to it with the hallucinations but I guess that keeps us guessing what is and isnt' real.

Finished it tonight, it was a better season than 3 for sure, but it definitely had some odd parts. The dream sequences were just strange.

Spoiler

Finished last night. As this was the final season, I’m cool with where everyone ended. I’m not sure we know where Marva ended up but we did see her in the old west dream sequences.

We finished it last night. I agree with a lot of the criticisms, but they stopped bothering me once I realized in earlier seasons that there's no point in thoroughly "logic checking" the various plot developments and devices. However, I will add that the courtroom scenes (especially the judge) in S4 are laughably unrealistic.

Overall, we really liked the more Chinatown/noir-ish/Lynchian tone of S3 and S4. The dream sequences and one-off "hallucination" scenes (not technically accurate, but viewers will know what I'm referring to) were especially entertaining little vignettes.

Patty Solis-Papagian deserves a spinoff.

This series ended with a bang for me. Great season and series overall. Seasons 2 and 3 were not quite as good as 1 and 4.

Solid end season. I'll miss it, not a lot of good legal shows these days...

I thought season 3 was much more incoherent than season 2 and damn near unwatchable.  I enjoyed season 1, although it was far from perfect.  S2 was a big step down but still better than 3.  I saw David E. Kelley's name in the credits in S1 and could feel his fingerprints all over it, not so in 2 or 3.

I came to the thread to see if I could figure out whether to go forward with S4 or not without spoiling it.  Looks like I should, good job surl.  Thanks.

CSB: A year or so back I needed to be in West L.A. for an early client meeting.  I was looking on hotel tonight app and came across the Ocean Lodge.  I almost stayed there, in tribute to Billy Bob.

Actually, of the courtroom parts, the judge was one of the more realistic aspects.

Beth Grant is pretty fantastic.  Within the realm of older lady parts, she is a chameleon.

Nearly every aspect of the courtroom scenes were terrifically unrealistic (and that's fine - the show clearly takes place in a parallel universe separate from our own), but I don't think any judge would have allowed that level ongoing shenanigans to pass with nothing more than a repetitive series of "I'm going to keep my eyes on you" half-assed "warnings."

Season 3 was borderline unwatchable mess.

Best season was season 1. For me it lost something after that and wasn’t anywhere near as good as the first season.

Yep.  Just finished season 4 which was better than 3 but that’s not saying much.  Best was season 1 and went downhill fast.
