July 19, 20187 yr Dodgers HAVE to be the odds on favorite for the NL pennant. The AL is beastly, b7t we have to be the fav to get to the WS.
July 19, 20187 yr They’re tied with the Cubs @ 3/1 now. 5/8 to win the West, that’s a # you don’t see often.

July 19, 20187 yr Adam Cimber too who has a 51/7 k/bb rate in 48.1 innings. This is going to be a haul for SD I think.
July 19, 20187 yr Mejia to SD. The padres now have 3 of Keith Law’s top 6 prospects (Tatis, Mejia, Gore)

July 19, 20187 yr Remember when everyone was writing the Dodgers off in April due to injuries and a very slow start?
July 19, 20187 yr I have said this before -- I think Mejia is going to be a perennial All-Star. This is a huge return for a relief pitcher that our resident expert thinks is overrated. Edited July 19, 20187 yr by Beau Vine
July 19, 20187 yr I think the Injuns know their window is short (see KC). Push it all in and see what happens.
July 19, 20187 yr 33 minutes ago, Sbbruin said: I think the Injuns know their window is short (see KC). Push it all in and see what happens. Agreed. Their run is going to be similar to that of KC and the Tigers. Few years of being contenders and then will fall off. Quickly.
July 19, 20187 yr Lindor and Ramirez are under team control through 2022 though. Plus the Indians are a well run org (9th most wins in MLB since 2000), so I don’t see this as pushing in the chips for one run.
July 19, 20187 yr kluber, bauer, carrasco are also controlled for 2-3 more seasons as well. it's only the back end of their bullpen that's about to be gone, and that's probably ok with indians fans right now. doesn't seem like a short run/fall off a cliff situation.
July 19, 20187 yr Problem is they won't be able to resign all of Lindor, Ramirez, Kluber, Bauer, Carrasco and others. So while their current window certainly isn't just a year it's most definitely 3-4 years. At which point they will have to rebuild. Their rebuild won't be a Cubs, Astros or Miami type rebuild but I doubt they are competing for anything in 5 years.

July 19, 20187 yr also the indians (much like the cubs with chapman) are coming from a position of great need - a closer (or more) and a long time since their last series win. the astros bullpen is already very good, and we just won a world series without a closer.

And it still might be another 2-3 years before the AL Central is anything above complete garbage. Indians can make the post season every year by simply not having their plane crash.

July 19, 20187 yr Saw the Indians trade went down today. Was that a good deal? Hand is under control for a few years and has good stats. Seems kind of pricey. I just want to see them win one World Series before I die.

July 19, 20187 yr yeah, if you're cleveland, coming into this season, you're not thinking trading for relief will be your primary deadline need, assuming there hasn't been a major injury (i know miller has been sidelined, but still was shitty before then).
July 19, 20187 yr they needed bullpen help in a bad way. i haven't seen the updated stats but i recall them having the worst bullpen era in the league earlier this year. and with that starting staff and that lineup...this was the move.
July 19, 20187 yr Damn, it did sound pretty expensive. Was hoping Hand was a bit better of a player, didn't realize he had a bad WAR, though maybe that's due to the supporting cast of the Padres. Hopefully he works out well enough to help them past the Red Sox or Yankees.
July 19, 20187 yr Hand is a very good lefty reliever with a wipeout slider. he had a rough week or two just before the break, but from April 3rd - June 13th he was lights out. July 19, 20187 yr Honestly for this year, Cimber is a great pickup. The Yankees, Astros and Sox are all very right handed heavy and Cimber is holding RH’s to a .207/.221/.261 slash line with an absurd 62% GB rate. He has a great sinker. Lefties have mashed him though.

Service clock just started this season and he looks like he could be one of the most dominant relievers in the league against RHB.

July 19, 20187 yr lmao career ERA. How Hand performed for the Marlins (where he was also a starter) has little bearing on his value to the Indians. Edited July 19, 20187 yr by Fozzz
July 19, 20187 yr So did that set the market for kela? Only real similarity is club controlled end of bullpen guy.
July 19, 20187 yr So did that set the market for kela? Only real similarity is club controlled end of bullpen guy. Doubtful.Indians are so desperate. They had to be out front ...and had to overpay to make sure that happened
July 19, 20187 yr Oh I missed the Cimber guy being in the deal. Well that makes it better, 2 bull pen pitchers that are better than what they got now for the most part. The last game I watched was one where they were up like 4-0 for 8 innings, then they pull Bauer and gave up 7 runs in the 9th. Pretty sad to see, probably just a fluke, but seemed very Ken Giles-ish. Plus, the Indians need more cost-controlled assets, they don't have the market to keep a lot of the guys coming up for renewal in 2-4 years.
July 20, 20187 yr His advanced metrics are amazing. It's gonna take a top 5 prospect to get the Astros to part with him. Edited July 20, 20187 yr by kevwun
July 20, 20187 yr Matt Carpenter is unconscious. 5-5 with 3 bombs and 2 doubles today Yeah but somewhere Bud Norris is still tattling on Hicks to Matheny
