Matt Carpenter is unconscious. 5-5 with 3 bombs and 2 doubles today

and he gets pulled after 6 for no discernible reason.

also, according to mlb network, carpenter is onkyyhe second player ever to go 5/5 with 3 hr and 2 2B; Kris Bryant is the other.

what, he can't play three more innings like everyone else on his team? the guy has a chance for history and you bench him, when you could just as easily sit him down or take him out tomorrow if it's that important. there's no reason to take a guy out who's in the middle of a historic day at the plate.

The Rays had to call up a scrub to replace Ramos for a few days... Could this mother fucker look more blitzed in his pic?

I know they play jai alai in Miami but I guess it's made it up to St. Pete

So, who’s next for Cle’s bullpen?
Well not Familia. Looks like he will be an A

That’s a hit.

It could have been caught.  Not sure it should have been.

Does this sound like a manager who's confident and in control?

"We had a really good conversation, I'll just say that," Martinez said. "It was addressed. Look, they're very competitive. Everybody is. I'm glad we talked. It's over. Let's move forward. These guys are professionals. We're good. I'm good that we had the conversation. This stuff happens. I've been on teams where guys wanted to choke each other. It's a long season. They get it. They understand. We talk about it. I don't want to lose sleep about it. It was a really good conversation. I'll just leave it at that. Things are good."

John J. Healy (October 27, 1866 – March 16, 1899), nicknamed "Egyptian" and "Long John", was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. Healy played for the St. Louis Maroons, Indianapolis Hoosiers, Washington Nationals, Chicago White Stockings, Toledo Maumees, Baltimore Orioles, and Louisville Colonels from 1885 to 1892. He was 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m) tall and weighed 158 pounds (72 kg).[1]

Career[edit]

Healy was born in Cairo, Illinois (hence his nickname) in 1866.

Wouldn't have been my first guess for why they called him Egyptian

problem in the mlb today: in the middle of the 5th in chicago we've had 15 base runners and it's tied 1-1. that's what happens when everything is k's, bb's, and hr. hell, carlos peña could probably make a comeback.

if there was ever an MLB franchise that was actually “baseball aggy” it would 100% be the Mets

The Mets actually have hardware.

Unlike baseball aggy who runs out of innings.

They do have hardware, they also manage to fuck up most wet dreams. Guess that's why they're the "miracle mets"

Ian Desmond contributes to one of the shortest sac flies of all time (not involving Hamilton/Albies/etc):

What exactly were the Rockies thinking when they gave him $70M and put him at 1B?

Carlos Gomez played 2B for 2 innings tonight, doesn’t appear he had any chances. Would be funny to see a lefty light him up.

McCann is on the DL..and the Astros are done playing the Rays for the year

Those watching Sea/white sox may have heard this, but trivia time:

Which player leads the MLB in 4 hit games this season with 5?

I was going to ask why they were talking about Altuve in the White Sox/M’s game, but checked and he only has 4.

So I’ll say Segura

Edit: nope. segura has....1 four hit game this year.

Nope... its someone that no one probably figures would have the lead. I was pretty shocked when i heard it

Treinen blows the save in the 9th in Oakland after the Giants bullpen holds a chair in the way of Piscotty trying to pick up a ball rattling around. Hanson (who else) scores from first.

Edit: now they’re reviewing

Wasn’t watching, so I’ll throw out Scooter Gennett just for the hell of it.

No but i like your style

He plays in the AL East...and its not carlos gomez lol

Well since he had one tonight and I believe another a few weeks back, I’ll try former UT signee Josh Bell.

That's all backwards. We couldn't run out of innings fast enough.

Yeah so the answer to the question I posed is Giancarlo Stanton. He has the most 4 hit games this season with 5.

107 at first pitch tonight in Arlington

That seems pleasant
I was there last night. It was fucking miserable. Then 12-2 on top of that.

On this day in 1997, Greg Maddux tossed a 76 pitch complete game. He only threw 13 balls and never had a 3 ball count

...and of course Eric Gregg was behind the plate.
