New skipper for the Twinkies is some dude named Rocco Baldelli. Apparently he's the Rays field coordinator, whatever that means.

According to the Strib, first manager hire from outside the organization since 1985.

Well thats a name i didn't think I'd hear ever again

Lmao if you think thats remotely close to the moral lapses the Astros have suffered in the last 12 months.

Like what?

Wait.

Are people really pretending that stealing signs is a big deal?

LOLOLOLOLOL

It's baseball. Every single team in the league is stealing signs. Even the lowly Rangers.

This one is funny.

Left field
National League:
Corey Dickerson, Pirates; Adam Duvall, Braves; Christian Yelich, Brewers

Dickerson was so bad in Col, Tampa moved him to DH. Duvall lost his job, didn’t make Atl’s postseason roster. Yelich started more games in RF.

The second most egregious call was the omission of a certain NL first baseman...

Qualifying offer question: if player rejects QO, are there any restrictions imposed on him re-signing with the team that extended the QO?

one of my favorite books to read to my 3 year old (This is Baseball by Margaret Blackstone) ends with this.
Today was the first day since end of March this wasn’t true.
Damn I’m bummed

You just wanted to brag on your boy Mathis.

I've come around on him.  He should bat 9th, but he's a phenomenal catcher.

dodgers are crazy if they decide to pay kershaw going forward. anybody here think kershawnis even 70-80% of his cy young self going forward?

Well he’s a sub 3 era guy and there aren’t that many of them around.

That being said he’s not the CK of 4 years ago.

Still valuable. Not worth 30M a year.

Which is why he shouldn't opt out

Maybe. But if he’s on a decline and continues to have issues staying healthy, his prospects as a free agent in two years might not be so great so his overall earnings could benefit from grabbing more guaranteed money now.

He should be able to get something like 7/$200m right now. So it’s a question of whether he and his agent think he could get at least 5/$130m two years from now.

It's like people think that defensive statistics for a left fielder are stable and not subject to random variation from year to year.
