This is a horrific crime and it never should have happened, but this has been going on for as many centuries as we’ve had societies. These guys committed a crime and will be punished, probably get life. What more do you want done? The police will try and learn from this and will implement training and screening in an effort to have it not happen again, but it will definitely happen again because cops are human, and subject to all the flaws that come with it. But they are no more evil than any other group. The vast majority are trying their best, but there will always be a very small percentage that abuse their authority or are just assholes. The guy’s family definitely will be awarded many, many millions of dollars, and if Floyd’s family is a benchmark there will be inter family squabbles about it. If history repeats he’ll at least have a street named after him. And burning some cars and businesses of people who are in no way involved while coincidentally grabbing some flatscreens or Jordans and emptying liquor stores in the process neither proves or solves anything. you really decided to double down on your stupid racism
January 31, 20232 yr It is possible this might be the desired effect of the potential misinformation about the ex's baby mama and pic taking twitter rumors. Move the opinion of a few from "this is an instance indicating reform is still needed" to "this is just a bad apple who had a personal grievance." Regardless of the cops motive, reform is still needed. He got 5 other cops to go along with him. They should have been police and stopped him.

February 1, 20232 yr I have skimmed much of this thread so apologies if this has been posted. Here's a video of him skateboarding https://old.reddit.com/r/skateboarding/comments/10mqsjd/tyre_nichols_skateboarding/ and one where he chose 'we all float on' as the song: I haven't and won't watch the video where he got beat to death in a cruel fashion. Descriptions are usually enough for me, and thanks to those of you provided them.
February 9, 20232 yr Jesus. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/07/us/tyre-nichols-photo-memphis-demetrius-haley.html Quote As Tyre Nichols sat propped against a police car, bloodied, dazed and handcuffed after being beaten by a group of Memphis police officers, one of those officers took a picture of him and sent it to at least five people, the Memphis Police Department said in documents released by the state on Tuesday. The documents painted a picture of repeated misconduct by the officers, starting in the first moments after Mr. Nichols was pulled over for a traffic stop, through an arrest carried out with excessive force and continuing on through the many minutes when Mr. Nichols lay on the street in dire need of medical help. Sending the photograph to acquaintances, including at least one outside of the Police Department, violated policies about keeping information confidential, according to the documents. But police officials said it was also part of a pattern of mocking, abusive and “blatantly unprofessional” behavior by the officers that also included shouting profanities at Mr. Nichols, laughing after the beating and “bragging” about their involvement. The revelations came in internal affairs documents that the Memphis Police Department sent to a state agency, in which the department asked for the five officers — who have been charged with second-degree murder in Mr. Nichols’s death — to be decertified, meaning they could no longer work as police officers anywhere in the state. In the documents, police officials described how the officers worked together as they severely beat Mr. Nichols, appeared to relish the assault afterward and then made a series of omissions and false claims in their reports about what happened.

The fact that the cops that set it off on him were also black proves Ice Cube's line of "black police showin out for da white cops" in 'Fuck Da Police'. The current police culture in this country is rotten, and it's usually the culture that trumps the training.
May 7May 7 Officers found not guilty. I don’t know how this is even possible after seeing the video. Holy shit https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna204934

May 8May 8 Decades of "police aren't always perfect, but they have a difficult job trying to protect us" conditioning and "why was he running/resisting?" propaganda has an effect on society.

May 8May 8 Memphis needs to step up its riot game. I’m surprised it wasn’t burned to the ground last night.
May 8May 8 There are two more cops that did the majority of the beating and the already pled guilty. These guys were secondary and are still guilty of civil rights violations that they haven’t been sentenced for as of yet. That might be the only reason the city isn’t burning.
May 8May 8 As I have said many times, I'm not a giant fan of the "federal overlay" cases, but it sure seemed to work here. One thing that's odd, it seems they usually wait for the local system to fail (undercharge, no-bill, acquit) before the feds come in. On the other hand, the feds do seem to like to go first when there are dual prosecutions. Also, sounds like their lawyers did something akin to a change of venue to get the non-local, all-white jury. From a results perspective, pretty good lawyering.
