My sons think it’s funny that when we are watching a game Al Horford is playing in to yell out to the room: Hey Dad didn’t you play against him in high school?

We already knew that. Pretty sure you were in College while Caine was walking the earth in Kung Fu.

Low end of old age, imo. Any dude who was regularly choppin' it up with the Houston Oiler's O-line pre Luv Ya Blue days is at least mid-60's

Just turned 60 - it sucked - but better than the alternative. But I would be careful engaging in this conversation with Tforn. You are only 10 less than me. I think he is in his 30s.

About 17 years ago I was having a conversation with a med school student from UGA and he was saying that Georgia hadn’t had a good kicker in years. And I said who was that guy who kicked like a 62 yarder … I think his name was Butler. He said he didn’t know a Butler, then thought about it for a second, and said “Wait a minute, that’s Kevin Butler, his son is on the team now”. I turned around and walked away in shame.

Well, sure that’s a funny story. But that was like 17 years ago. That kid for Georgia is 36 now and his son will probably be kicking for Georgia pretty soon. MTF, getting old sucks.

That actually surprises me. Didn't CTJ post on the old 360 board?

Texas hoops recruiting: Targets coming into focus

The final "live period" for evaluation has concluded, and that means the top targets in the 2026 class is quickly coming into focus for Sean Miller and staff.

It's still up in the air if Texas will sign a two or three player high school class. One thing is for sure, there are two players  from inside the Texas line that the Longhorns feel are must gets.

Labor Day weekend OV ...
Austin (Texas) Westlake guard Bo Ogden is scheduled to make his OV August 30th weekend. Texas leads big here over Purdue. Ogden put together a tremendous spring and summer on the Adidas 3SSB circuit averaging over 21 points per game, and connecting on 51% from three with a game that continues to expand. Make no mistake, Sean Miller wants Ogden at Texas.

OTF %: 90% Texas

September 5th weekend ...
The top target on the board Austin Goosby (Melissa, Texas/High) is scheduled to make his OV September 5-6. Texas and Duke will battle this one out until close to the November early signing period. BYU, SMU and Miami are also giving it their all. The younger brother of left tackle Trevor Goosby should be considered a slight lean to the Horns over the Blue Devils.

OTF %: 60% Texas

Five-star PF Cameron Williams (Phoenix, Az../St. Mary's) is also scheduled to be in the 5th weekend. Texas receives the first OV followed by Purdue, Kentucky, Duke and USC.

September 12th weekend ...
Five-star PG Taylen Kinney (Overtime Elite via Kentucky) will make his OV to Texas the 12-13th weekend. The 6-foot-1 point guard has already made OV's to Purdue, Louisville and Kentucky. He has OV's to Kansas, Indiana and Oregon prior to Texas. Arkansas gets the last OV September 26-27.

Supersonic national riser Bryson Howard (Frisco, Texas/Heritage) visits the 12-13th as well. The borderline 5-star SG/wing is the son of former NBA player and current UNT Dallas head coach Josh Howard. The 6-5.5 versatile prospect has his pick of blue blood's and top programs to visit.

September 19th weekend ...
Five-star PG Deron Rippey Jr. (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) will visit Texas following trips to Kentucky, Miami, North Carolina and Alabama. Syracuse receives the last OV following Texas.

At least one more to be scheduled ...
Five-star PF Anthony Thompson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) is also expected to make an OV to Texas. He has yet to announce dates. The 6-foot-7.5 lefty is a sharp-shooting floor spacer that makes terrific reads with the ball. Auburn, Kansas, BYU, Indiana and Ohio State are the main competition.

I was a bit surprised that Miller has never made one Final Four. 3 EE's is pretty good, so maybe with Texas money and brand he can get over the hump. I trust Del Conte.

Still pissed at Dad's comment when he joined Barnes at TN.  Something about, "This shade of orange is much better than burnt orange.". I know he was playing the crowd, but f that.

So he is going to commit to us with "You can all go to hell, I am going to Texas!"?

Great to land visits, but it would be a lot cooler if Miller lands some of these guys.

Are these visits tweets the same as the process shut down tweets in football? Being that both are meaningless especially when 5+ teams are listed. I'd be more interested if a prospect only listed 2-3.

Hoops recruiting weekend was very positive … - Gerry

Spoiler

Hoops recruiting weekend was very positive …
OnTexasFootball continues to believe 5-star guard Austin Goosby, younger brother of Trevor Goosby, will come down to Texas vs. Duke.

Sean Miller, GM Chris Ogden and the entire Texas staff did a terrific job with Goosby and family. Goosby’s mother, in particular, got to spend more time with the entire staff than at any point prior. Miller did a very good job of presenting a plan for Austin at Texas, and it’s appealing with Tramon Mark and Jordan Pope graduating after the 2025-26 season.

Austin Goosby’s girlfriend is a freshman athlete at Texas, Trevor is likely at Texas for two more seasons (2025 & 2026) and there are family ties to UT with mom having graduated along with other family members.

OTF would put it at 55-45% for Texas over Duke prior to Baylor and BYU visit to close things out. OTF believes BYU will end up with the highest NIL package. SMU and Miami are very competitive on that front too.

Five-star big man Cameron Williams (Phoenix, Az./St. Mary’s) also had a tremendous visit over the weekend. OTF was told by two sources that the 6-11 future NBA first round selection is/would be a very good fit at Texas from a student/athlete perspective, and his family saw that. OTF was told his younger brothers absolutely loved Texas. Fairly easy travel from Phoenix to Austin vs some other schools being considered is also seen as a positive for the Horns. The competition is real and uber competitive with Kentucky, Duke, Arizona, USC, Purdue and North Carolina also receiving OV’s prior to a November decision.

One more hoops recruiting note: OTF still believes Texas is the heavy favorite for 4-star++ G/W Bo Ogden (Austin/Westlake). He will make his OV September 19th weekend.

If Bo Ogden is a priority target and we can't land him, we need to fire the general manager. I'm only partly joking. The recruiting pitch should be, "Son, if you don't come to Texas they're going to fire me."

Just realize basketball is way more transactional than football. Even now. And football is very transactional. All things being equal then how the program presents itself is very important, so I don't want to say it's meaningless, but programs come in with huge NIL offers out of the blue in basketball all the time. Practically every top player is potentially Felix Ojo.

NIL endorsements have always been more lucrative in basketball than other sports. Think of the king of them all, Michael Jordan, who really shifted the whole endorsement deal into a higher plane.

Texas has a couple of well heeled boosters who are friends to the basketball program almost exclusively, so Texas has some firepower. But they're not Phil Knight level wealthy, or even Cody Campbell wealthy. It will be interesting to see how Miller is able to navigate all of this. This isn't his first rodeo, but the rules of the game are different now. Before it used to be the shoe companies and AAU affiliations were the primary thing to navigate. We've seen a couple of championship teams in the NIL era that did it by keeping guys on campus for a while rather than fielding an NBA first round draft pick at every position the way Calipari used to. Not that Florida or Houston didn't have any NIL dollars invested in their teams. They had a lot. But it's as much about managing the roster as it is getting every player you're after.

I'm fully prepared to learn that Trevor is Cain to Austin being Abel.....that there's a wayward Uncle that Mom hates and is in Austin's ear, and that Pussy's record is going to end up being Infinity - 1......

Bo Ogden ...
The 4-star++ 6-foot-5.5 guard out of Austin (Texas) Westlake is closing in on a decision quickly. The son of Texas GM Chris Ogden made his official visit to Texas over the weekend. Texas is considered the favorite over Purdue and Tennessee. Sean Miller has been all in on the elite shooter with toughness, ascending playmaking from the wing and the knack for making clutch shots to close out games.

OTF doesn't believe this recruitment will go past this week.

Austin Goosby ...
The 5-star guard and younger brother of Texas left tackle Trevor Goosby wrapped up his official visit process over the weekend with a trip to BYU. The Cougars likely have the highest NIL bid. With that said, Texas and Duke have been considered the teams to beat with the Longhorns receiving the most mention in the last couple of weeks. Miami and Baylor are also trying to stay in the fight.

The 6-foot-5.5 skilled and athletic guard is expected to make a decision by mid-October.

SIAP I just saw that Marcus Spears Jr. is the #1 ranked PF for 2027. Insane how athletic that family is. Is there a chance that he follows his sister to the 40?
