I got about 3.5 in today before I got too busy with work but some really good moments so far. The first scene with bill, Peggy/hank in bed when Bobby pocket dials, and the whole episode about getting more charcoal cracked me up.

They’ve finally gotten rid of the ambiguity of where Arlen is located as well which is kinda funny to me. It makes a lot more sense with how east Texas a lot of the people actually are

As someone who grew up in a mid-small town in east Texas, it was never ambiguous.

That’s the beauty of this show though… even my hometown of 2,200 in the arklatex could’ve been Arlen. The one episode where they meet all the boomer sooner people should’ve definitely keyed everyone in to the fact that it was a Dallas burb though. I know Judge grew up in McKinney, but I always thought it was funny that every notable Texas landmark was only a hop skip and a jump from Arlen in the show

Wonder if he'll clear up where in Texas Beavis and Butthead are located.  Beavis seemed to really know a lot about Houston in one of the more recent episodes.

Between this and happy Gilmore 2, I’m one fucking happy guy. Just finished episode 1 and I loved it!

His voice must have changed as he got older or maybe health problems. Bc yeah, it’s def different. But he is listed in the episode 1 credits that just rolled for me

The last season with Malory Archer was pretty obvious.

?  Mike Judge grew up in Albuquerque, and is ineligible to be President.

I guess i meant Richardson, which is where he lived when he made the show.  my timeline and knowledge of DFW burbs is pretty suspect it seems

Overall, I really liked it.

Some of the voices were jarring at first (Dale's OG actor + the change, especially in the rat episode), Khan and even Peggy sounded a whole lot older.

Did I miss no mention at all of Luann and Lucky? RIP to Murphy and Petty.  I only saw a photo on the wall, but that was it.  Obviously those 2 are too iconic to recast, but not even a mention of them?

Caught the first two last night and was also interested to see them confirm that Arlen is a Dallas suburb. I said above that I considered Arlen to be Allen and McMaynerbury to be McKinney. It lines up well with them being gone for a decade or so and Arlen is no longer a small town exurb but full metroplex suburb. I’m happy to see it back.

Mike Campbell sounds enough like Petty to pull off Lucky.

It’s great. It’s subversive enough and gets its points across without sounding specific or preachy. It’s good writing and funny with realistic aging of the characters and where they are now in life. Plus I mean, I can’t be the only one whose room suddenly became a little dusty at times

They did Hank dirty making him a Fox News watcher. Politics aside, Hank Hill is not a man who who see Tucker Carlson's stupid face and wonder what he has to say.

Disagree. This show first aired when Fox News was pretty mainstream and it was probably on every TV everywhere in suburban Texas. Hank is stubborn and probably stuck with it. What would he do, go watch OANN or Newsmax?

The way he didn’t fall for the Tate-esque con man shows me Hank hasn’t changed much as an old school Texas conservative.

Haven't seen anyone mention the new closing theme by Billy Strings. It's freaking great.

I think it's kind of funny that Hank is the only one that doesn't look like he's aged, because he looked to be in his 60's during the original run.

Isn't Hardwick doing Dale's voice in the first few episodes? It still sounds very different. Maybe because he was already sick? I'll be interested to see how it sounds later in the season when Huss takes over.

Yes, Hardwick is credited in the first 5 episodes and then Huss finishes it out.

You really notice it in episode 6

Got a legit LOL when they mentioned Deadpool and Ted Lasso in Ep 5.

I only flipped to cnn during commercials.  Hank must not be hip to streaming in far away lands.

giving up a chance to convert an oil tanker to propane for his love for Texas.

Peggy: can we give the new wife to Bobby?

peggy:  I’ve been considered a 5 all my life!

I’m guessing that Lady Bird has passed on.  Another sad loss on this show.

I’m kinda surprised they didn’t mention her. Wouldn’t be surprised if they did next season

Most Peggy Hill line she has ever said on this show. Such confidence to call yourself mid af without realizing it

He killed it as penny’s brother, in the same line of work that Walter White found himself in.

I’m only 4 episodes in but it’s great.

Poor bobby still pining for Connie so much he turned down hot black girl sex that wouldn’t even be hard to get. M

also German/japanese fusion?   Don’t know what it is but I’d try it.

I guess Loro isn't too far off with "Far East meets Texas BBQ".  There's certainly some German influence on central Texas BBQ.  Wouldn't surprise me if Judge had it mind.

I thought they said Arlen was supposed to be Garland?

Anyway, the two uproarious parts for me were Dale: I ran on a no mask campaign! No covid mask, gas mask, catchers mask...

And Boomhauer's step son mimicking Bill smashing the beer can on his head & knocking himself out.

I completely lost it when Hank said, "Peggy, I didn't retire so that I could sleep my life away like some nepo baby."

Pretty sure I will be using that line regularly.

The Llama family afopted KOTH from the beginning.  Later on when it started running in syndication or whatever and aired nightly at 10:30, we would always wstch it before turning in.  I usually fell off to sleep before it ended, which helps reruns seem fresh.  Maybe it’s my dementia kicking in.  We have great reverence for Mike Judge and all who contributed to the once and present KOTH, to “Beaver and Buffcoat,” to Idiocracy and all other Judge whatnot and productions.

I’m quite sure adults now aged 50-75 who were raised in the South knew individuals who resembled in many respects Hank, Mr. Thompson, LuAnn, Peggy, Bobby and the other cast members.

Mr. Thompson: (gives his order)

Butthead:  .  . .  Uhhhhhhh

Mr. Thompson: “Ah didn’t order ‘UHHH.”

Just getting a minute to catch up on this. Props on Judge for getting the terminal right at DFW. It's the little details that sell it.

I had that same thought too.  I was like, yep, that looks exactly like the DFW international terminal.  I think Peggy said they had a layover in AMS

Exactly.

Also the "Redcorn's tappin that, right?" got me too. Again, the little details fill out the main lines so well. Sure, the actors voices aged since the first run, but close enough to be fun. We'll see when I get to the episodes that have the new dale.

It’s pretty drinkable. Trying to decide which American light lager it’s close to but I rarely drink American light lagers.

Hank laying in bed with Peggy, with the whistle around his neck... the farmer tan cracked me up, and is right on point.

Halfway through, and still going.

Overall so far, they've done it right.

Maybe a weird question but is there any significance to the power pole being removed during the opening sequence? I sort of thought maybe it was Mayor Dale having it removed because of 5G conspiracies but his campaign sign is on the pole when it's removed and then he puts a yard sign so he wasn't mayor yet. And as it turns out he wasn't mayor long enough to do anything lol. I'm not sure why I notice it every time, but it makes me curious.

I’ve noticed it, but didn’t ponder the significance.

Maybe just updating the grid to buried power?

As long as it's not that solar power propaganda nonsense
