John Fetterman - saving America with sweatshirts and Umbros

Does his stroke have anything to do with this really dark turn as a human being? I am no expert or even a wannabe amateur on this, but man this guy just completely flipped out. I have seen the personality of friends change when they had a traumatic brain injury, but I don't know near enough about what happened with him after his stroke.

LOL.  Personally, I've been the medical director for brain injury units.  I didn't have to assume a whole lot because I went to school for a billion years to treat these patients.  There's a massive d

I think it was an accelerant. It just has to be, and I've known people who had similar very abrupt personality changes after similar medical episodes. Hell even Charles Whitman went mad after some serious head trauma.

MAGA: we’re just like you if you suffered brain damage.
So don’t be all high and mighty libtard.

Thanks for the update. He just completely went his own direction that makes very little sense. I hope for the sake of his family that he perhaps decides to get out of politics.

He was always Zionist and probably also racist, but at least had enough impulse control to avoid saying the things that would have gotten him creamed by Conor Lamb

Mark Warner just said "my interactions with him have been fine" FWIW

So, John Fetterman is not going to be saving America with sweatshirts and Umbros?

It could be that he won his seat and decided to do whatever he wants for 5.5 years until the next election. This is known as "pulling a Sinema"

I've definitely noticed far fewer couch medical experts on this thread detailing the unlikelihood of a stroke victim recovering to a degree befitting the responsibilities of a United States Senator. Odd.

How bout now

I feel legitimately bad for him.  Obviously his stroke has harmed his personality and made him into an angry old man.  And how he's being stage managed by his people, for their own benefit.

I always thought his dress style was not man of the people or someone who cares more about the job than his looks. He demonstrates a lack of social maturity by choosing comfort over dressing like a public official entrusted to lead millions. It also shows that he cares more about attention that he receives than the issues.

besides it’s just weird to wear shorts when it’s 20 and snowing. I’m not talking about running out to the mailbox dressed that way but leaving your house to spend a day in the senate. His constituents who get up in the morning to work a blue collar or office job (in the office ) do not dress like a 10 year old boy.

you want to look like your voters? Put on some jeans, boots and a work shirt. I’m cool skipping the suit but he looks like a fool.

So he's the male Kyrsten Sinema?

As long as he wipes out a sizable portion of the GQP Senate contingent when he snaps, idgaf.

I don't believe the stroke had anything to do with this.  I think he woke up to the grifting opportunities of being a grifter and will continue to slide to the right until he becomes full on maga.  What a POS.

There are plenty of blue-collar union voting men that will re-elect him that Kamala had no chance with.

That dude isn't running for re-election.

Surely even mythical moderate voters want people with full control of their mental facilities and  in good health.

Has he said he’s not running in 2028 or are we doing the asinine thing?

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman is receiving care at a Pittsburgh hospital after suffering a fall near his home, according to his office.

“Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries,” his spokesperson said in a statement Thursday.

Fetterman, who fell during a morning walk near his Braddock home, was taken to the hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” and is doing well and undergoing routine observation, the spokesperson said.

“He has opted to stay so doctors can fine-tune his medication regimen,” they added.

In the statement, Fetterman remarked: “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!’”

It was not immediately clear how long the senator was expected to remain under doctors’ care.

Sounds like that’s the problem.

Step down or die, either way he needs to be replaced. Seemed fun at first, then became worthless.

Why does this never happen with the Rs?  The Dems have had this guy, sinema, and manchin off the top of my head that basically defected. The Rs never lose anyone. I guess because they’re a cult, but god dammit, why must there always be a problem?

MTG is the new Fetterman who was the new Manchin.

As far as I know, she hasn’t blocked any votes or defected to the Dems. And good, because I sure as shit don’t want her.

I suspect it’s because people who vote democrat cover a large spectrum from progressive to just left of center, especially in places like WV, while most of the gop these days are way to the right of the spectrum next to Mussolini. I don’t think “centrist” or “moderate” republicans even exist anymore. The John McCains and Mitt Romneys of the party are extinct.

Regardless of their actual position, or the concerns of their constituents, being a Republican is easy:  Support Trump or do not.  If you choose the former, you go along with whatever nonsense he's up to at the moment with no regard for anything else.  If you choose the latter, you're likely to get primaried, lose a lot of funding, and probably lose the support of the base in your district or constituency; plus, you're likely to get "Truthed" and given a stupid nickname; and possibly investigated by the DOJ.

It's not that easy for Dems.

Nebraska's Chuck Hagel is the last one I can remember who openly bucked the Republican leadership, and that was due to the Iraq War.  I think he eventually went Indy after deciding to not run for re-election, and then served in Obama's administration.

Fetterman is nowhere near as bad as Sinema or Manchin; he’s a +90% D voter and those other two were around 70% or below.

You get Senators like them because states like Pennsylvania and West Virginia exist.

I was told we could "build a wall" to keep bad people out.  Wall-off shit states.  Gonna take a lotta bricks, though.

Off topic:

I think one of those "what do you believe" questions is whether you believe in an immutable and immortal soul.  As an agnostic bordering on atheist, personally I think it is unlikely, but if there is, it would have to be something separate than your personality.  We have observable, undeniable evidence that your personality can change drastically with a simple change in your brain chemistry or how your neurons fire.  We are all a little brain damage away from becoming Republican.  So it just seems impossible that you have a personality that is independent of your living flesh.  I like the Buddhist version of reincarnation more than the Hindu version.  The Hindu version imagines your person carries over, but the Buddhist version is imagined more like the flame of one candle lighting another.  Although I don't really believe in either.

My MIL had hyponatremia (the opposite of dehydration) and it affected her brain for a couple of weeks.  She's already a magat, but man, her internal filter went away and she just would go off on racist rants and shit out of nowhere.  It was wild.

They also weren’t on any sense moderate or centrist. They were just principled by the standards of politicians and not pussies.

This isn’t directed at you, but it’s uncanny the way we’ve adapted words like “conservative” to mean the degree to which a Republican pays fealty to Donald Trump, regardless of circumstances.

I had someone say to me something like "You just don't like conservatives". I was like I voted for George W. Bush motherfucker. I would have voted for McCain if it weren't for the whole Palin disaster. I would absolutely love a legitimate, well-meaning conservative party. And not one that revolves around nothing but fealty to a convicted felon and child rapist and regular rapist.
