Very well done (for the time) 26 half hour episode production of WW2 US Navy history that aired on NBC 1952-53.
I watched the reruns in 1954-55.

I got my Dad the full set of VHS tapes when they came out. I want to say that WBAP-TV used to run an episode late Sunday nights before they signed off when I was a kid. Great series.

I remember watching this as a very young child in the early 60s.  Theme music still hits me.  When my oldest brother enlisted in the navy in 1967, I was terrified that he was going to be killed by some kamakazi flying into his ship.  Ha...little did I know, Charlie ain't got no submarines...or kamakazi.

I watched this too, I'm guessing early 70's.

Someone on my first ship had the full series on DVD.  Usually had it playing on the wardroom TV during lunch hours while on deployment.  Great stuff.

Love me some "The Great War" in 1964 from the BBC. 26 parts total of just midcentury British greatness in Michael Redgrave. Every episode is on YouTube for free for anyone interested. The theme alone is harrowing.
