LLWS is cool for the small towns and inner cities to get some shine, but if the North DFW suburbs and Atlanta suburbs competed then Taiwan would get run

Solid take. Taiwan hasn't won since 1996.

Along youth baseball / softball lines it seems like every year Hewitt is playing in the little league softball world series.

What's in the water near Waco? Loaded question, perhaps.

Congrats to Needville for defeating Ascension Parish (Gonzales) La 5-3 to advance to Williamsport.     As Steamboat mentions above,  very well played game especially since Ascension had to play one extra game to advance to the finals.

LLWS will be from 16-27 August.

Good for them.

Needville was in my 3A district when I was in HS and still plays in 4A after the inflation awhile back.

That Needville team is really solid. I have seen three of their games now and they are impressive.

There's probably only like 8 teams in the organization

Point remains. LLWS is the conference USA of 12u baseball

Little league is pretty thin these days. It’s not just select but Texas teenage or whatever other orgs out there trying to pull leagues out. I don’t have much context for how it once was so maybe it was never that big. This was several years ago, but I had some involvement in a district tournament and one of the top players missed some time due to some travel ball. Then within the last two- three years, the best kid on one team bailed on his team’s championship round. I’d assume the successful teams are pretty dedicated to little league.

On the girls side, the path to the Southwest region seems to require going through fewer teams and in some age groups the teams are not good. But it seems last year Oklahoma or Colorado effectively got a bye on the boys side to advance to the Southwest regionals.

Midway girls won many a title years ago then fell off. It’ll be interesting to see once this group moves on whether the run to the WS continues.

In our local little league (and maybe everywhere FAIK), parents are trying to have their cake and eat it too by pulling their kids out of Little League completely at 7u or 8u for select ball or select-lite, fully intending to just drop back in at 12u like celebrated road warriors to boot out every other kid and family that sustained the local league over the years and gobble up all the spots on the 12u all-star team that will try to make it to LLWS.

Legendary status achieved in the Mid- Atlantic regional final. Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 7th, Pennsylvania didn't even have a hit yet. Kid hits a walkoff bomb to send them to Williamsport.

Our dumb fuck city decided to rent out our fields to a bunch of tournaments right when Fall season was supposed to be in full swing so they moved up our season a full month. Started practices 3 weeks ago.
For FALL baseball.
Play on turf so it’s even hotter.
Kids are doing their best but it sucks.
My son’s gear is a month old and it already stinks to high hell.

War Blue Jays!

Needville over Media, Pa 2-1 in a great game.      vs Fargo, ND, 6PM, Friday.

Great first day,  everybody shows they belong.

Japan 1,  Cuba 0 (no hitter)

Panama 4, Czech 0 (no hitter and a grand slam)

RI 3,  Nevada 1

Panama's pitcher hit the GS.

RI's pitcher struck out 15 in a 6 inning game.

I am continually amazed at the quality of play by these kids. It is excellent baseball and a pleasure to watch.

I used to always watch this every year with my dad. Sure miss him.

Got a live chat going with my son. Both of us are still at work, but we have it on!

3 2/3 perfect innings

10K

35 pitches

Pulled with a 6-0 lead. With only 35 pitches he's eligible to pitch again Saturday

80 with a wipeout slider

This Taipei pitcher is a grown ass man

Taipei went through a ban from LLWS back in the 90’s for aggregating their team with the best players throughout their entire country, with some of them as old as 16 yo. Looked to me like they are back at it from what I saw yesterday.

Small ball and excellent base running carries Needville to a 6-2 victory over NDakota.        vs Calif (El Segundo), 6PM, Monday, ESPN2

Edit:  Also, excellent management of the pitching staff by the coach

Yes a great move by the coach.

After watching a lot of this tournament and even the regionals, I think that team from Tennessee might be the best team on the USA side. They can really hit and their fielding has been spectacular.

Great baseball though all the way around.

Definitely looks to be more competitive and therefore enjoyable as a spectator compared to the Hawaii juggernaut last year.

Today is MLB day at the LLWS.    Phillies and Nationals will spend most of the day at the LLWS park and later play a game at the local minor league park.

Tune in and see the great interaction between players.   MLB players enjoy it as much as the little leaguers.

Kid from Rhode Island ran way outside the baseline to avoid a tag on FC to 3rd. Horrible non call

Edit to add: why does the Philly team wear their Howntown jersey but every other team is wearing the regional LLWS uniforms?

Edited by cmontexas

Kid told ump he was rounding base to go home. Lmao.

Curacao gets a 2 run HR in top of 6th to defeat Venezuela 2-1.    One of best games so far.   Andruw Jones approves.

Curacao will play winner of Japan/Taipei on Wed for place in Saturday Intl Championship Game.

The youth baseball league I run is not allowed in the Little League organization because our facilities are not up to standard.  Even if we could join we wouldn’t have another Little League organization within 2 hours of us.  Since I took over we have gone from 201 kids to 267 last year and 312 this year.  I even kicked a couple of teams out of the league during that time frame because they wanted to be a select team in a rec league.  We’ve had a lot of kids coming back to the league from select ball.  Have also picked up 4 teams from neighboring small towns because their leagues have closed down.  I hate that so many kids are leaving the leagues to join select ball and never getting a chance to play All Stars or represent their towns.

Every Japan hitter stands on top of the plate and dives out over it and the umps wont call strikes

This lady ump is calling it straight. Imagine being 12 years old and standing on the plate vs a kid throwing 80 plus from 45 feet away

Needville beat El Segundo 3-1 behind solid defense and clutch pitching and a HR by their ace Jablonski. (should we offer or wait a year ?)

vs Washington, Wed, 2PM, ESPN for a spot in the US Championship Game on Saturday.

Taipei vs Curacao at 12PM, Wed for a spot in the Intl Championship.

Instant classic. Tx vs Washington. Phenomenal game by both teams.

Needville beats Seattle 1-0 in 9 innings. Incredible game. Great pitching and defensive plays from both sides. They advance to the US finals vs Tennessee/Seattle winner.

Taiwan advances to the Intl final. Fueled by Huck's upthread disrespect, they've outscored opponents 25-1 in 3 games

Final out will be the SC Top Play.

…. unless the Yankees win a game.

Today’s game was magnificent baseball by both teams.

Incredible pitching and the defense was outstanding.

The play to end the game by the Needville shortstop was incredible.

Side note:

I initially thought that team from Tennessee might be the best.

I'm still trying to figure out how the shortstop popped up so quickly, then spin and fire. Unbelievable! Do or die play.

Needville is super impressive. It is such a tiny place that it is impressive enough that they beat the Pearlands and Bellaires of the world, let alone undefeated in the national championship game.

Incredible game.  Can't believe I don't have any fingernails left.

International and the American championships ups for grabs today.  I know the Chinese team has a kid who can throw 80, but I'll go with the team from Curacao.  Needville advances on the other side of the bracket.

What's the rule for batters feet on the chalk line

Kids from the Caribbean get 2 runs on 2 errors on the same play.  Headed to the top of the 5th.

Been a fun game. LLWS is a great event and ESPN does a good job. That foul ball to the camera had me laughing!
