Any of you smart sons of bitches ever have trouble with poor call quality on three way calls?

My boss and I often talk while he is on the road and when the call is two party there are no issues with call quality.  He has AT&T and I have verizon.  As soon as we add a third party to the line, his line goes to pot.  There are often periods of clipping or other poor quality where it makes the call almost incomprehensible.  When HE is talking only.  not just for me, but for the other participant.  I have no issues hearing the other participant and they have no issues hearing me.

He recently upgraded from Iphone 6 to 8plus.  The issue stopped for about a week.  It is now back. Does anyone have any ideas?  why would it only happen on three way calls?  The other attorney in our office has verizon and she hears it too (proving that I am not totally nuts).

Is he always the one looping the 3rd call in?

Maybe try it with you doing the 3 way link instead of him?

I keep reading that. But the garbled sound is on the att phone. Am I misunderstanding the issue with the advanced calling features?
