Former Cowboys FB Daryl 'Moose' Johnston Named General Manager of Alliance of American Football's San Antonio Team

The Alliance of American Football completed its awarding of franchises Thursday by placing a team in San Antonio.

Former San Diego Chargers coach Mike Riley will be the head coach and former Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl "Moose" Johnston is the general manager.

San Antonio joins Atlanta, Orlando, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Phoenix, Memphis and Birmingham.

The Alliance will kick off its inaugural season the week after the Super Bowl and has a TV contract with CBS.

San Antonio is the eighth and final city for The Alliance's inaugural season, joining Orlando, Atlanta, Memphis, Salt Lake, Phoenix, San Diego and Birmingham.

"Not only does San Antonio have a large population of football fans, it has a first-class stadium to host them in," says Charlie Ebersol, co-founder and CEO of the league. "The Alamodome is a perfect backdrop for Alliance San Antonio, and we are eager to give this city a competitive team, led by coach Mike Riley, that they can rally around and support.

Riley also has coached in the CFL and at Oregon State and Nebraska.

Kinda stupid not to have a single Midwestern franchise.  Omaha, Des Moines, Wichita, and OKC would all be good markets for something like this.

Yeah, but on the bright side, none of those cities are now saddled with Riley for a coach.

Looks like they are trying to limit travel distances and/or avoid late winter/early spring weather.

Being from San Antonio, the Alamodome is far from "first class" in any aspect.

Agree with this. Looks at the towns that did really well with Indoor Football:

Wheeling

Omaha

Billings

Sioux Falls

Sioux City

I'm surprised they chose the dome.  Figured any of the hs stadiums would be big enough
