June 7, 20223 yr The '55 is definitely more understated than the '57. I like 'em both and wouldn't kick either out of bed. Errr... so to speak.
June 7, 20223 yr Carlisle, PA. Show this week Really we’ll done 65 coupe , and a classic Mach I (never my favorite body style, but they’ve been growing on me).I'd like to add that Mach 1 to my Mach 1 collection

Errr... so to speak. 57 looks great in nice paint and full chrome trim but 55’s boxier look strikes me as “tougher” looking if that makes sense. Primer, hood scoop, dechromed and a roll cage like the Two Lane Blacktop or American Graffiti 55. One of my favorite cars.
June 8, 20223 yr My town's first "First Friday" monthly car show was this past weekend. I took a few pictures of middling quality - the evening sun was problematic for some shots, but great for others. Lots of good paint colors, so I figured I'd make a handful of posts organized by color family... No other gold cars yielded decent pictures, but this Toronado stands alone anyway.
June 8, 20223 yr Black Not one but TWO KITTs, each with that goddamn looping recording of KITT catchphrases, befouling opposite corners of the show. I wonder if it's common courtesy among the KITT guys that they stay far away from each other, not just because of the attendant noise pollution, but to avoid unfavorable side by side comparisons between vehicles. Either way, it's my impression that the KITT guys always seem to be the most socially awkward dudes at car shows. I love the bigger repro honeycombs on the Grand Prix. June 8, 20223 yr Red. Noticing that the 300Z was eligible for antique plates made me feel old. The sleeper wagon was aggressive.
June 8, 20223 yr Yellows. The Jeep was loud as shit. I can only imagine how hot it is to sit on top of that engine. And the rear tires were fucking enormous. Seemed like a death trap.
June 8, 20223 yr Random tidbits. The first picture illustrates what happens when a car show is held partly in the library parking lot. The second was just such an amusing juxtaposition to me that I thought it worth documenting. I wonder if the owners talked to each other at all. And the final pictures speak for themselves.
June 8, 20223 yr GD I hate Fiats. My first couple of rentals in Europe, they stuck me in GD Fiats. The next time, I insisted on the "upgrade" to a Citroen.
June 10, 20223 yr Had a girlfriend n college with a 124 Spyder. The best looking of the small 2 seaters of the late 70’s. It was super fun to drive…when it ran. Mostly lived in the shop.I hope no one spent a dime restoring that piece of shit.
June 10, 20223 yr That little show looks like my mid70’s high school parking lot. It would go across Mecum for a couple mill today. Us poors had either muscle cars or old VWs and parental handmedowns. Rich kids had conversion vans, Porsches, or Vettes. Spoiled girls had Vegas, Chevettes, Pintos.Remember it was highly inflationary times fueled by crazy oil embargo gas prices. Quite the collection of Oldsmobiles. My parents had a 68 442 with the Rocket 400 and I had a 70 with a Rocket 455 in high school. I wasn’t a fan of the Rallye yella treatment but next to it is a 67 Toronado, perhaps the most beautiful American car design ever. I love that 68 442 convertible (my favorite 442 fascia) and the 71. Of the Tri5’s I love the 56. My old man had a 57 150 with factory muted tiger interior. I’d go with the 58 which I think is the best from Chevy.Love that 72 Riviera boat tail. Those were just badass and so beautiful.

The Kitt guys are weird because it’s a novelty car. Who goes all in on novelty? Imagine basing your record collection around Spike Jones and Weird Al records. This is the automotive equivalent.Great pics though. Thanks for posting.

June 10, 20223 yr So I’m told my Mustang is running but I haven’t seen it yet. Supposedly running rough. Also talked to the dude in TN about redoing my radio. He’s backed up until September. Sigh.

Dad would buy them cheap and sleeve the engine and then you had a pretty reliable teenager car. I may have set a record - mine was sold at 130K wihtout sleeving it and it only let me down once - water pump failed on the way home from Auburn. Luckily it was a very easy car to work on. Put a new pump on while in a parking lot and drove home.

June 11, 20223 yr I looked at his facebook page awhile back and was afraid he died. Last video I saw involved a lot of hacking and coughing around end of year. Glad to hear he is still alive for warranty work if needed. Yeah there have been no updates there or YouTube in a while so I had the same concerns. But he sounds fine on the phone. Evidently he’s unconcerned with his social media presence.
June 18, 20223 yr Is that a Ranchero?Looks like. 59 El Camino with the tell tale cats eye tail lights to me.

I think it eventually rusted away. Poor girls either had a used beetle or mom’s hand me down Vista Cruiser which was like having a sleeper conversion van when parking. When I started high school you could pick up a hemi cuda for $1000 or less. Or a 454 Chevelle, or any bad ass muscle car. A new Vega was I think $3k.

June 19, 20223 yr In hs in mid 80s from what I remember you could get a decent 66 mustang for $1500 all day long.

So if you came over to my house when my buds were over there was my 70 442 and 71 F100 XLT with a 390. Best friends cars a 70 1/2 Trans Am, a 71 340 Duster with a ton of mods, and a GS455 Buick Skylark. Quite a collection. We would likely be working on our sleeper. A 64 beige Dodge Dart 4 door sedan. We replaced the slant 6 with a Hemi we got from the junkyard for $400. It had double mufflerS to silence it, with cutouts that got opened when we got our mark, then it sounded like Don Garlits on the line.

June 26, 20223 yr This guy has some great YouTube videos. They are Ford Mustang oriented but the should apply to lots of makes and models. https://m.youtube.com/c/AndyKruseChannel/videos
June 28, 20223 yr Author First post in a long time. New seat covers and foam are on. new AC is plumber up except the compressor and plan on that today. Also have repainted most of the hard interior and install of panels and new carpet is underway.
June 29, 20223 yr https://www.hotcars.com/this-is-the-largest-sports-car-collection-in-the-world/ A long time ago I was in Darmstadt with the German cousin at his university and on TV there was a commercial for this place. It featured a Ferrari 250 GT. It was one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen. I asked Achim, "where is this place?", and he said, "it is really close to here.", so I said, "I know where we are going tomorrow.", and we did. I have a ton of pictures, that I have to dig out from a box somewhere. At the time It was the largest collection of its kind in the world. Yes, this can also go in the racing section, but here works, too.

Mostly lived in the shop.I hope no one spent a dime restoring that piece of shit. Might be me. Picked up a 77 recently that I'm going to restore. Always wanted one. Came with 2 hoods that aren't usable so I have to get one. Engine was running but is partially disassembled now. I've owned Fiats in the past (but not a 124) so I'm well aware of what needs to be done to make it reliable (everything).
July 5, 20223 yr Author New neighbor has two 68 Mustangs. This red vert is in the garage and he had been struggling with new power steering so I spent about 3 hours helping out on Saturday and we got it in. He was driving it on Monday😀 His other one is a yellow coupe with a 390 that I have not seen.

Fun to drive but, as was mentioned, required constant work
