And essentially done. The long backordered rail came in and was installed. Heading up there in early July for last time. Still going back and forth on putting a top on it. I actually am taking the top frame to be blasted this week and will probably have them put it in just in case. Only items left are some minor punch items. Garage owner plans to put about 50 miles on it to make sure of everything.

So I bought this today.    Will be at the house in a week.   1974 full engine rebuilt in 2022 with upgraded bits.

  • Been wanting to do this for a while, had a terrible time finding what I wanted, but now it's done. I picked up a 1979 Camaro over the weekend. Runs strong and drives, has a 350. The interior is...not

  • 4 months later, finally some paint.

Besides the top, I had a tonneau cover for my 1960 MGA.
It was a lot more convenient for everyday use and really cut down on the frequency of dealing with raising and lowering the awkward (IMO) top.
Are tonneau covers still made at all?

Yep they are. However my 60 year old one is really in great shape. Helped that my brother put the top up when he stored it under his desk for 15 years. The shop had their upholstery shop replace the zipper but otherwise still good. And totally agree. On my first MGA the tonneau was great for avoiding the top. You literally could break a finger in all the moving parts if you were not careful - especially trying to pull the top up at night

Well it has all new suspension and new leaf springs so it should survive

If I get airborne during the next drive I am blaming all of you.  A live rear axle makes hopping a non zero chance

Probably posted 85+% of these in past years, but here are some shots of the paddock for the vintage cars at last week's IndyCar race at RoadAmerica.

The sprint car and the Dallara "pace car" (driven by Al Unser, Jr.) are both new this year.

Check out this absolutely mint 1988 Saleen Mustang. Girlfriend and I went for a walk around her neighborhood last night and I spotted it. The guy was outside when we went back by, and I talked to him for a few minutes. All original but the wheels and he has the originals in storage. Never been restored or repainted, 18,000 original miles. He bought it in 2022 from the original owner.

Watching that makes me miss my 82 Monte Carlo I had in HS - no hydraulics.

Probably not the right thread, so a pointer to a better one would be appreciated.

I finally wrestled my wife's 2015 4Runner away from her by buying her a new vehicle.  Now I want to do a little cosmetic refurb (on the 4Runner, not the wife, but . . . never mind).  Mechanically, it's pretty sound, 175K miles, just a little bit of Toyota oil burn so far.  Interior is great.  Exterior has a couple of dents, etc.

What I want to do is bondo or replace any body parts that need help and then paint the whole vehicle a different color.  I am NOT looking for a show car, but I do want a good paint job.  Any recs for a local (Austin) body shop that does a good job at a fair price?  I'm guessing parts and paint will come in $7K-$10K but I could be off.  I don't care about the investment value, the way I'm tearing myself up this might be my last car.  Hey to startups.

I'm not sure how bad the damage is, but I'd have a PDR shop go through the truck before letting anyone throw bondo at it.

Heading back to Michigan tomorrow for the final review of the MGA. The shop told me that they found a fix for the speedometer issue so hopefully the only remaining items are mounting the top frame - which I painted and have in car - and misc checks

Time for my annual review of cars from the Lakewood 4th of July Parade. Gotta say it was a good day.b9aa7fa338e2e47a529f64fe1f0163f8.jpg

Outstanding cars!   👆

4th of July is my favorite, and this neighborhood parade is a big reason why.

My 88 yr old uncle showed up today at our annual family reunion in this Crosley. He taught auto body at the local community college for 30 years and was very active in the Wichita hot rod scene.

Finally done!! Back in Michigan for the final drive before shipping home. Last item is for them to mount the top bars that I brought with me and just check everything. Only slight disapointment is the trailing bottom edge of both doors is not totally flush but if they try to bend the door it will mess us the top edge clearance and clearance on the front edge. Basically the British sixty years ago were not Lexus.  The blue color just absolutely pops in sun

Paging @Armybrat to the white courtesy phone and other MG freaks.  There is a great article in last month's Hagerty's magazine about 2 college students who set off from Boston to Rio de Janeiro in the early 50's in a MG.  They traveled over 16,000 miles in 16 countries in 76 days.  Somehow, they stumbled right into a small revolution in Guatemala.  It is a good read with some really good pictures.  If you can't find a copy in a couple of weeks, just let me know and I'll send you mine.

Thanks, my son gets those regularly and passes them on to me.
Will watch for it.

Reminds me when I was at a summer school for Americans in Monterrey, Mexico in 1962 when two college students from Vanderbilt stopped by briefly to visit with some friends.
They were driving a brand new beautiful BRG Jaguar XKE roadster and were on their way to tour all over deep Mexico including Yucatan for a full month.
When they returned four weeks later to stop by our campus again, that car was beat all to shit with dents, caked with crusty dirt, and the exhaust pipe (held on literally with bailing wire) almost dragging on the pavement. Sad.

Have you told that story before?  If not I think I heard it or one just like it.  It also reminds me of the movie Fandango as a more limited version of doing Mexico or S America.

I may have mentioned it on Shaggy years ago.

I have a Pitt helmet sticker on the passenger side, little triangle, window along with a Borussia Mönchengladbach sticker.

It sure fits for a Steelers car but, no way in hell would I drive it to the stadium for a game. The Speed Yellow (official color) actually has a bit of the old mustard color Pitt had when we were always good.

Yeah, the story is that it is a right hand drive car, really early production number or prototype I think.  I don't remember all the details but that one is pretty special.

I liked the F-100. Although, up here our roads suck so badly that I’d never have anything lowered. I’d leave it at regular ride height.

I do like certain resto-mods, like that Mustang. The Revology cars are very interesting, as well as expensive.

To be perfectly honest I would feel more comfortable with the new-ish Ford GT styled after the original GT-40. I’ve been in an original GT-40 and I could barely get in, or out, and I’m not a fat guy and just normal height. Plus, up here, there is absolutely nowhere to drive something like that.

I’ve never been a Mopar guy. I like them but, never been anything I’ve lusted after.
