Confounding and hijacking a term that has been around for almost 2000 years is lazy way to attack a whole religion which is likely the premise of the thread beyond the mention of grotesque acts that need strict and severe accountability/punishment. The wolves in sheep’s clothing that are these monsters is clearly called out in scripture by Jesus himself and for good measure James calls out extra accountability for teachers which these people purport themselves. They are sick amoral individuals looking for an easy target. They are not “American Christians” or any “Christian” for that matter. The churches need to have their heads in a swivel for these individuals and separate them out from their victims and cooperate fully with law enforcement.

They wear the label and wave the flag more ostentatiously than anyone.  In short, the louder someone proclaims their special status as a "Christian," the less likely they are to do the one thing that makes one a Christian: live a life of trying to walk the path laid out in the Gospels.

In this country, the exception (label of "Christian," flaunted loud and proud, but NOT actually following the Gospels) has functionally swallowed the rule (being a Christian because you try to walk the Way of Christ).  That's the point.  As has been made in other places, e.g., the LAST person you want to do business with is someplace that advertises itself as a "Christian-owned business" and has the Jesus fish on all of its stationery.  That guy is going to do shitty work, cheat you blind, or both.

The people I trust LEAST to do the right thing in this country are "Christians."

Some of the people I trust MOST to do the right thing are actual Christians, but you can't tell unless you ask them about it.

But remember, the REAL danger to all of us is Polly Darton's Thursday night show, and her flamboyant version of "Jolene."  Keep your eye on the REAL danger, my friend.

Lol, you say that like making homosexuality illegal isn't next on the far right docket.

95% of child molestation has occurred when homosexuality was illegal.  So that's gotta be the solution, right?

Sad to say this but there are too many cases where the call is coming from within the house and the church elders just hang up, place on indefinite hold or  the inevitable "sorry, wrong number."

Truth.

Heritage Baptist in Mansfield is a cult that harbors predators. Kids are homeschooled, and adult young men are expected to "court" underage girls and marry them at age 18. A young teen reported to her dad that an older dude in the church was abusing her. Dad met with church elders, they called a meeting during which she was slut-shamed, literally told it was her responsibility for tempting him, made to wear more "modest" dresses, etc. No consequences for him. Some years later as an adult, she finds out the dude had gotten busted for child porn and related stuff. On a hunch, she asks another girl she used to know from church if he'd done anything to her. Yep. They banded together and got the DA to bring charges and he was convicted (again). Oh and her dear old mom and dad had disowned her for being disobedient to the church. They showed up at the trial in support of the defense.

Yes, this is the 21st century.

These anachronistic zealots are the fucking groomers.

One of those "elders" since moved and formed another of these fundie Baptist churches in Georgetown by the way....

Here are two more; the first example actually occurred in Germany where the age of consent is lower--14 years. Also: in the US there is a movement to return to younger age of consent and *consent to marry laws. Apparently, being that it is young women and girls it is somehow acceptable to groom them because it's females and their lives are of no consequence.

Germany: (sorry for the cut-off tweet, the tweeter took a screenshot of the pastor's instagram post which is now private.) Here's some background: the youth pastor posted an insta of his girlfriend (now wife) when she turned 18 with the caption--"I can't describe with words what you mean to me and what kind of person you are. You have been my best friend for 4 years, my girlfriend that I love....."

New one, a ‘Christian’ film maker

Obviously a terrible crime, but can we take a moment to acknowledge the abomination that is the tweet? Who was going to have sex with the child? The filmmaker or the cop? Why would you give money to a cop and tell them, “buy you something nice and also commit a sex crime?”

Has there ever been a study of the ratio of pastors, priests other clergy/church workers have been arrested for molesting and raping kids vs. the number of drag queens that have? I know the results will be very strongly lean one way…

And do the Drag Queens have a leadership structure that moves them around from theater to theater to hide the facts about what they're doing?

In biblical times her father would have traded her for a couple of cows and a goat to marry a man in the neighboring village on her 13th birthday.  So this is fine.

So that is kind of one the bigger mysteries for me regarding Christians who claim the Bible is the literal word of God, how do they reconcile all the truly fucked up shit in the Bible? How do they reconcile how women are subhuman in throughout the Bible and how does that work for them in our modern society?

They like the parts that are convenient and ignore the parts that are inconvenient.  Easy peasy japanesey, although the woman as subhuman thing has some momentum.

The Cop was likely posing as the kid's parent or a straight up trafficker. "I've got a kid. You can do whatever the fuck you want to them for 5k dollars."

…they think women are subhuman today. What, you think these families that homeschool their kids and marry their daughters off at 14 think women are actual people?

That would be my interpretation as well, but “paying an undercover detective to have sex with a 14 year old child” leaves things pretty ambiguous.

I am super skeptical of Youth Minister as a profession and especially things like the Youth Ministry degrees offered at Christian colleges. I think they attract people who are at best extremely immature and can’t move beyond their own youth group experience, and at worst calculating predators who see opportunity in being a mentor and spiritual authority to teenagers. Back in my Protestant church-going days, the scene was littered with youth ministers that met their wives in the youth group. I had a good friend in high school who married a youth minister she met at about 15– she got through college first but still. Creepy then and now.

It’s an odd college freshman who gets out of town and high school and immediately wants to plan a return to that environment, most of us want to stop being around teenagers.

The Young Life people at my hs were creepy af.

Yes, they creeped me out too in high school. Their youth minister looked creepy as fuck and wouldn’t be shocked if something came out. But that was decades ago.

My senior year, a buddy and I made a leaflet railing on young life and organized religion. I am sure if I read it now it would sound like the rankings of a 17-18 year old whose eyes were opening. I think we made 100 copies and threw them all over the school. The principal called us in to question us, but my track record for getting caught doing shit I am not supposed to do was remained untarnished that day mi amigo.

Teenagers are objectively a PITA to be around and if you have one, you should carefully think about any adult who is in their orbit and ask yourself “what is this person getting out of it?”

The closer the real answer gets to “they enjoy being around these young people,” the more cautious you should be.

I was thinking about this thread yesterday.  I was a camp counselor in from 18-20.  It was a great place and a good bulk of my friends to this day are from my time there.  But there was always a counselor or so that enjoyed a little too much the adulation of the 14 year old.  You don't really know anything other than that it looked a little weird how they were interacting. We ostracized them and let them know they weren't part of the cool club because that's the only way you know how to handle things like that at that age.  But it's easy to see how given a 100 of those relationships, more than one could go in a bad direction.  A young girl is really just testing out how to speak to boys and the guy shepherding it into something for him.

25 months for raping 14 minors, seems like a light sentence ?

Maybe he found God in prison ?

Maybe he thought God was in a 14 yo's vagina, well multiple vaginas ?

Maybe he thought the Devil was in a 14 yo's vagina and it had to punished, once again in multiple vaginas ?

They lowered the sentence just so he'd stop saying "just."

All these motherf--- all these fuckers have rounder-than-normal heads and really bland expressions.

If you see some bland-faced round-head kiddy-creeper askin the congregation to turn to Matthew 18:6, I mean, there's your neon sign.

I mean, I don't see much ambiguity at all, but I guess that's just me.

How does one drag show troupe feature this many arrested groomers?  It's like the Groundlings of kiddie rape.  Or just business as usual in rural Texas.

Who said anything about rape? Only made the joke one time about those guys that hunted a black man for sport, they deserve whatever happens to them.

People voluntarily give blowjobs though.  Try getting one, it's fun.
