The Harris County Sheriff's Office was initially made aware of the suspicions in August, according to court records, after deputies received an email from someone claiming that Thomas had confided in them that he had trouble seeking out child abuse content online. At the time, Thomas confessed he was still officially volunteering with the youth of Second Baptist, where his duties included supervising children. According to The Houston Chronicle, Thomas's defense attorney, Stephen Aslett, said that he was not working at the church in any capacity when the investigation began. By Gawd, that's @jkates's church!! It's so weird this keeps happening on Ed Young or his children's watch.

Yes, a former volunteer got in trouble in his own home, but it's probably our former pastor's fault. Child porn is horrendous. If he's guilty, I hope they punish him harshly.

Child porn is horrendous. If he's guilty, I hope they punish him harshly. It's not the family that runs my church's fault that rape and sexual assault keep getting covered up, and child porn keeps showing up in the hands of people we entrust our children to...it's just random! Right. Here's the bottom fucking line: child predators go to the place where children are, and where they have the best chances to use power and influence to shame children into silence. That environment is compounded when, say, an institution like the SBC or Catholic Church and high level church administration have a vested interest in covering up said crimes. Which makes it INCUMBENT on a institution that claims to give a fuck about children, and which makes fucking massive piles of tax free revenue every year, to conduct proper background checks and pay the money to hire actual employees, or truly research into the references of volunteers, and make sure they get this shit fucking right. Any when they don't, over decades, it's a systemic failure. One might argue it's a conscious choice. Where does the buck stop at Second Baptist after repeated controversies?

What did I win? I mean, it's a Baptist church, so I probably didn't win a bottle of good bourbon. They HAVE it of course, they just keep it hidden.

And places where children are should have robust policies and procedures to guard against foul play. SBC runs background checks for every volunteer, has cameras in every room, and has a policy of never leaving kids alone with just 1 adult volunteer. Not sure what else you would have them do.

Maybe not practice repressive, sexist theology and policies that make sexual abuse inevitable. But that's clearly too much to ask.
December 9Dec 9 We should change the punishment for these crimes. Put a mill stone around their necks and take them out to the gulf and drop 'em in the drink.

Meh, you are talking out of your ass. Carry on, though. I know it makes you feel better about yourself. 2 minutes ago, Fondren & Main said: We should change the punishment for these crimes. Naah, I just followed the story and read the full report after the Baylor/Briles rape scandal. Whole lotta absolving males from responsibility, and blaming victims, in a manner consistent with their fundagelical theology. When you see a pattern, you see a pattern.
