End of discussion. What do you mean? The point was that ISU plays down to teams worse than them every year. ISU was a 9 point favorite, was ranked 23 spots higher in SP+, and had a higher composite recruiting ranking. You stated Memphis had more talent than ISU and the players they have now are better, but all the above disagrees. Teams play up and beat more talented teams all the time.
January 23, 20241 yr Cyclone assistant goes to Cincy... Cincinnati hiring coordinator from Big 12 rival FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year winner Tyson Veidt is set to return to his native Ohio. ZACH BARNETT 3 HOURS AGO Iowa State linebackers coach Tyson Veidt will be the next defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, according to multiple reports on Tuesday. Veidt replaces Bryan Brown, who took a co-coordinator role at his alma mater Ole Miss earlier this month. https://footballscoop.com/news/cincinnati-hiring-coordinator-from-big-12-rival-tyson-vedit-iowa-state
February 27, 20241 yr Matt Campbell sets Iowa State offensive staff, with internal promotion at coordinator ZACH BARNETT 11 HOURS AGO Matt Campbell is setting his offensive staff at Iowa State, headlined by by the promotion of assistant head coach and tight ends coach Taylor Mouser to offensive coordinator, according to a report Monday from ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. Mouser has been a part of Campbell's staff since 2015, dating back to Toledo. He was a GA for the Rockets, then assumed the same role when Campbell took the Iowa State job ahead of the 2016 season. He's steadily climbed the latter over the past nine years -- first to assistant director of scouting, then to a senior quality control for offense, and then to tight ends coach in 2021. He was named assistant head coach ahead of the 2023 campaign. Mouser steps up to replace Nate Scheelhaase, who took a job on Sean McVay's LA Rams staff earlier this month. Additionally, Campbell is set to promote wide receivers coach Noah Pauley to pass game coordinator and offensive line coach Ryan Clanton to run game coordinator, while running backs coach Jake Waters will switch to quarterbacks. Pauley and Clanton joined the ISU staff in 2023, while Waters has been in Ames since 2021 as a senior quality control coach for offense. To fill the open spot on the on-field staff, Campbell is set to hire Tennessee State offensive coordinator Tyler Roehl to coach running backs. Roehl was the offensive coordinator at North Dakota State through last season, but Eddie George lured him out of Fargo as part of a long recruitment process as detailed by FootballScoop's John Brice last month. July 9, 20241 yr A whole bunch of that is skewed by one small town in north central Iowa that's put like 6 guys into the NFL. A town of like 1500.
July 9, 20241 yr Who is Iowa State taking to Big 12 football media days? Four Cyclone football players will join head coach Matt Campbell on the trip to Las Vegas. July 19, 20241 yr A former LSU assistant is reportedly joining Matt Campbell and Iowa State Steeples also brings NFL experience to the Cyclones, after coaching special teams for the Vikings. DOUG SAMUELS JUL 18, 2024 Just a few years ago, Robert Steeples made the rare jump from high school to the NFL after rebuilding his alma mater before joining the LSU staff. An AFCA 35 Under 35 selection, Steeples coached the corners under Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge last season, but was part of the defensive restructuring Kelly decided to do back in January that overhauled the defensive side of the ball. Last night, Bruce Feldman shared that Steeples has found a soft landing spot with Matt Campbell at Iowa State. The report shares that the former 3-year NFL player is expected to join the Cyclones where he will use his defensive acumen to help the Cyclones on the offensive side of the ball as an analyst, the report adds. Widely regarded as one of the top promising young coaches in college football, Steeples made the unprecedented jump from coaching high school to the NFL in 2021 after quickly rebuilding his alma mater at De Smet Jesuit HS (Creve Coeur, MO) into a powerhouse in just four seasons. He took De Smet from 2-8 in his first season in 2016 to a state championship in 2019. In his final three seasons at De Smet, Steeples went 29-4, which included an impressive 20-game winning streak and back-to-back appearances in the state title game. In addition to the head coaching duties, Steeples also served as defensive coordinator and his unit allowed just over 9 points per game during his final two seasons with the program.
September 3, 20241 yr Spoiler alert: we’re gonna run the ball a bunch and get nowhere. Then we’ll have a flukish turnover that gives Iowa a TD. We’ll start throwing the ball with about 10 minutes left, and it will look closer than it is.13-10 Hawks. Rinse. Repeat.
September 4, 20241 yr One day ISU will fire Matt Campbell, hire a decent coach, and actually beat Iowa at least every other year.

We used to beat Iowa on the reg and then go 3-6 (at best) in the Big 12. I can live with losing to them and winning 6+ conference games. But occasionally winning this game would be cool too.

The Hawkeyes are the favorite (-2.5) in an expected close matchup with the Cyclones. The total is set at 35.5 points.

October 19, 20241 yr They beat one team with a winning record. Whoopty do this is why the big 12 shouldnt be considered as good as the other 3 conferences. Playing shit teams and being undefeated doesnt mean much with the exodus of the leagues two best teams

The only reason you view Miami as a more legitimate 6-0 is because they used to won some natties 20+ years ago. Us and BYU both have better wins than them.
October 19, 20241 yr I don't think the ACC is any better. B12 seems a little deeper/wider but the best team from each conference will likely be of similar quality. SP+ and FPI both like the ACC better so far at the top.

SP+ has you even with SMU (and Louisville), 4 points behind Clemson and 8 behind Miami. But I don't think there's any way Miami would get a TD against you at a neutral site. I actually think Clemson would lay the most points against you. 3 minutes ago, utee94 said: B12 is a much better football conference than the ACC. Based on what?

Miami, FSU, Clemson have 11 AP titles combined since 1980. Pitt 1976. Syracuse 1959. Ga Tech coaches poll 1990 (split w CU). And a ton of random claimed/unclaimed stuff. October 19, 20241 yr I don't know how things are going to look in a decade with realignment and NIL, but this has been an incredibly enjoyable season, even without Texas' success. The fact that ISU, Indiana, Army/Navy, Boise are all in the hunt for a playoff game is awesome. Watching OU collapse is great. Seeing Vandy knock out Bama, fantastic. Ohio state losing another big game, predictable but highly entertaining. Honestly, I hope some of these power 2 conference teams keep taking losses for maximum playoff chaos.
